Tulsa River Park Trails - Nature and Wildlife

Tulsa River Parks has 26 miles of paved trails that run along the Arkansas River and offer outdoor recreation. The trails pass by fountains, playgrounds, sculptures, and gathering areas. The park also owns and leases hundreds of acres for wildlife habitation and land preservation
I've lived by the Tulsa River Parks for over 20 years. I enjoy taking and editing short nature videos for the Family. If you enjoy, please share.

Tulsa River Park Trails - Turkey Vultures (6-3-24)
I usually only see Turkey Vultures roosting on the west side trail close to the waste water treatment plant. This was off Riverside Dr close to 51st.

This bird is a member of the flycatchers. I shot this on the west side of the river next the the apts. The westside of the river is a good place for bird watching.

It was a cloudy day, but I found a young looking male Cardinal close to the 21st bridge on the west side of the river. This one was munching on this tree. The call is not what I expected. I'm thinking maybe it's due to being young.

I had to use Merlin to identify this pretty yellow bird. I found this close to 21st bridge on the west side of the river. It's usually not found in Oklahoma.

I was parked around 45th Riverside where I had been getting video of a pair of Bald Eagles. As I was waiting, I noticed this crested bird. This is the female Belted Kingfisher. The male does not have the color. This is one of the few birds where the female has the color and is a little larger. I will be getting more of this bird. The sound is of a song bird. This bird has a throaty chatter type...

The Bald Eagle that caught the fish couldn't carry it, so this one came to help. This was taken around 45th and Riverside Dr.

I was riding around 45th Riverside. I checked out some trees and didn't see any Bald Eagles, but noticed this one feeding on a fish. There were crows waiting for their share. The Bald Eagle wasn't able to lift the fish. The next video shows the another Bald Eagle that showed up to help carry the fish.

I have a video of an eagle preening, but not tail feathers. The eagle accesses a gland with its beak and applies and even oil coating to feathers. If a feather were to fall, I would have to report it to an authorized person who would retrieve it and gift it to local Indian Tribes.

The new mic with audio adjustments let me capture Bald Eagles chatting it up. After being pestered by Blue Jay, a Crow came by and the Eagles let it know to move on. Taken at around 43rd and Riverside dr.

Taken around 43rd and Riverside Drive. This is the same location as the last Bald Eagle video. I've included sound. You can't really make out the Blue Jay, but in another clip I saw the Blue Jay in the tree. Must have a nest in the tree.

I saw two Bald Eagles that flew off when I stopped to video a few blocks south of 41st and Riverside Dr. I watched them in the river, then one flew back to a tree I was near. I missed the Bald Eagle leaving, but glad I got the air time coming to the tree.

I'm going to be focusing more on song birds so I got a shotgun mic with wind protection. It really helped, but next to the casino parking garage is traffic. I lowered the base, raised the treble and lowered the volume.

When the adult finished feeding, it flew nearby, preened, then took deep breaths before taking off. I've never noticed that before, but makes sense.
