The lyrics are protester crap...Sadly too many listened to the crap....The lyrics need to change and talk about the Freedom that was slowly brought about by the 1640s-1688 and later by the Victorian era relaxing Monarchy authority and providing Parliament to govern...Now however,,,parliament is becoming a stupid Monarchy.

I lived in London for about a year in 1992-93. These printed lyrics in the video are close, but they are NOT exactly what Joe Strummer is singing. The big one should be the "police say watch it, this newspaper's been read." The implication is that the police are worried that the people are informed; HOWEVER, we know that Joe doesn't trust the media, so it's sort of a wash... Cut the Crap is a wasted opportunity. Joe was more interested in people, while Mick was more interested in music. (These are not mutually exclusive.) Joe did all sorts of weird projects, like replacing Shane McGowan in the Pogues. Mick did BAD. It's sort of like Wings vs. the Beatles. I wish we had more classic Clash...
An Irish perspective here. (Catholic) The English imo are the greatest race of folk ever to exist. Their language, their culture, their engineering feats, medical advancements, sports, common law legal system. The world owes so much to them, not even getting to WW2 etc and the repulsion of Facism. Imagine a world today without all their innovations and inventions
