Most of these documentaries you will never see on regular TV, especially here in the USA, so it is great that they are available on You Tube. Plus, they have a limited interested audience.

The Valaam Monastery in the far northwest corner of Russia is an ancient center of Russian spirituality from where missionaries brought the Orthodox faith to Alaska and the rest of America. The monastery has its own rich tradition of chant, which was interrupted under the Soviet yoke. This CD, recorded in 1993, is one of the first releases to come from the Valaam Monastery, following its restoration in the post-Communist era. (It is offered here again because of renewed availability.) Since the appearance of this disc, with its distinctive use of ison (drone) in conjunction with Znamenny and Valaam Chant melodies, Hierodeacon Gherman, both with and without the Choir of Brethren, has achieved the enormous feat (the Russian would call it “podvig”) of restoring awareness of the lost chant heritage in Russia, as attested to by the numerous recordings in this catalog.

I am trying to get a better quality scan of the cover art for this CD and any of their other music. Most of the CDs seem to be out of print or near impossible to access to limit ability of distribution and language barrier. So, please contact me if anyone out there has access to scans of their old CD Cover Art.
