CB Performance VW Flywheel Install & End Play
New Parts have arrived! Today, we install a new CB Performance VW Chromoly Dual Weight Flywheel. Then we set the flywheel end play with the suggested "three" end play shims. I keep plugging away & get some more done on the VW Beetle Baja Bug Air cooled 1956cc Engine Rebuild. Then, I find an issue with the rocker assembly valve adjusters, so I need your comments to help me move forward with the top end.

Restoring Rusty VW Engine parts
มุมมอง 272วันที่ผ่านมา
Today, we try restoring some old rusty VW parts. And these parts have a great story behind them. The old engine parts used to belong to a VW Mechanic, performance Air-cooled engine builder, and former Formula Vee racer. Kinda cool! So, we need to do what we can and try to save these parts but, is it even possible to restore rusty internal engine parts? Watch and see. 👀 Like, Subscribe, Comment,...

@@charlesloar3210 thank you sir!
I went with the CB dual weight for my Bus, I'm going to use CB solid shaft stock rockers, but went with Thorsten Pieper valve adjusters for when my build starts
The Thorsten adjusters look like better quality. I am ditching the ball adjusters I got. 💩 they just seem cheap to me, and I don't like the possible failure point.
I have a set of those ball adjusters i haven't used yet. Lol, now im going to check them with a magnet.
Yep, why take the chance? If it aint broke, don't "fix" it.
I like to use a cago strap over the 1-2 side and block under the 3-4 side to keep the engine in place when i torque it down. Really like this build series your doing here.
Thanks man. You know what, after I was done filming, I realized I totally forgot; I have one of those torque multiplier tools to get er done. duh... Lol. works great.
@VWBaja I would like one of those. I've broken 2 breaker bars so far re-sealing my swing axles.
not the cheapest tool. BUT, worth every penny! Easy to use, and makes sketchy, semi-dangerous high torque tasks super, Super easy, safe and quick to complete. amzn.to/414oTkf
Mark is awesome. He helped me with my motor build.
Mark is "The dude". When I call CBPerformance, I ask for him directly because I trust his judgement. He's always willing to help and shares his experiences and knowledge. I often find myself learning something new from my conversations with Mark. 👍
I got about 4 thou on mine for endplay. After your first run in it will settle in to about 6 thou so don't sweat the endplay.
Ditch those adjusters and run the stock ones.
Yes, agreed! 🤙
I’d leave the case nuts alone. The case is already put together and sealed up.
Sounds like a plan. 😎
Especially in a Baja, you want the heavier flywheel for engine inertia.
You and Mark from CB Performance are on the same page. thanks again.
Definitely appreciate the vids, I am still getting parts together for 2180 with 5.6 rods
@@draksia nice! Sounds like a fun project!
Go with the stock style rocker adjusters. Your OCD will approve.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle thats what the voices in my head were thinkin too. sounds good to us.. haha🤪
Leave the case nuts alone for now.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle 😃k, thanks for the comments.
@@VWBaja Wait to see, If they come loose or leak oil down the road.
I did this to a CB Performance heads and they works with no one heat problem!
@@alejandrocasas1455 More updates on the heads comin up soon, so keep watchin..
Which vendor sells those gland nut? First time seeing that setup.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle Bought it years ago during covid. Sorry, dont remember who sold it... Any idea what that washer is for with the flat end on the side?
@@VWBaja I have no idea, about the washer. Never saw one, of those either.

Perfect name for the engine.
We have Clearance Clarence. Now we just need a Roger Roger.
@slingbuzz9148 ..Shirley we will ...
Nice job. Did you look on thesamba for upgrade oil pump blueprinting info?
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle no, what are you getting at??
@@VWBaja I can't add links. TH-cam will delete them. That book on how to hot rods vw engines, has some info, and samba has more information on how to increase oil pressure, volume, etc. EzGZ has nice tips also.
Oh, yep, when I got this new 26mm pump I watched the EZGZ vids (and others) and I have port matched the oil holes to the case and radiused the pump ports internally. She should be all set. The cover plate getting blocked off was a surprise though... thought that would match the pump better out of the box (it is a kit). I could have done more to that cover but didn't want to grind on her too much.
Great job
thanks! 😎

Is the distributor drive gear in place?
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle not yet.
@@VWBaja With the gear in place. It will have less end play.
At least put the gland nut on and torque it down to 60 or so pounds.

🤗
The valve guides in those heads, are going to give you issues down the road. Just my opinion.
is there a way to fix or prevent that from happening?
@@VWBaja Yes, Have a machine shop finish, what Mofoco started.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle Not sure what they could "finish".. My local machine shop is expensive!...maybe its time for me to start thinking about those Panchitos.
@@VWBaja It might be cheaper for you in the long run. You put a lot of work into that vw engine. It would suck to see a valve head stuck on the piston top, some time down the road.
Yeah! Family cameos!
I bleed.. you win. 🚑
Looking good man!!
Thank you sir!
I forgot to mention, put the cylinders in a small bucket with distilled vinegar for a day or so to remove the surface rust. Before honing the cylinders. Only put the rusty part of the cylinders in vinegar only.
I’d sell the cam or give it away if you paid next to nothing for it. Honestly the cylinders and see if you can get them smooth. Don’t worry about staining as long as it’s smooth. If you can’t hone them out, keep the pistons and toss the jugs.
@@VWJawbreaker The cam is for sale. Or whom ever wins the name my Baja contest may want it. 😎
Sell the cam. Hone the cylinders and save them. The rings won't make it, that far up in the cylinders.
Yeah, I will probably sell the Turbo Cam. No need for it,,,yet...haha.😉😁😂
Do you have anything to surface those? If they dont have any pitting youre good. That turbocam needs new lifters to go with it. cant really build a house with 2 nails and a door so idk what youll with those.
I have a dingle ball hone..
hone then check the ring gap and if its within spec go for it.
they are "new" so they should be able to take a good honing. 😉
@slingbuzz9148 Contact me by email @vwbajabug54 I have good news for you. 😎
Dont sell it! You'll regret it later!
Dont want to, and dont really need to .. but would be nice to have some extra money for a newer daily driver.
Don't sell the Firebird. Sell the Baja when you're done with it. Just my opinion. What wrong with the truck?
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle The baja is eventually going to my niece. The Firebird was supposed to go to my other niece but, her dad thinks its a bit much for her. And, I need the money to buy a new truck for my daily driver. My F150 is an 08, nothing wrong with it, just time to upgrade. I was thinking about buying a late 70's Ford 4x4 Truck.

Never thought it would get this involved but I'm learning a lot. 🤙
Yup a rabbit hole. !!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It takes time but I commend you on getting it done. Nice job man, I know you were frustrated as all get out when we were talking.
I know I may be going a little over the top trying to get it "perfect".... Being it's my first build, this is how I learn what is what. But the tools are a little off, and the parts are off, and I need to know how far off. (OCD) haha. All those little things being off add up to BOOM.! or knock, knock, knock, knock... rut ro raggy. LOL. I figure if I do all this extra work now with the tools to get a more "true measurement" I will make my life a lil easier for the next build. Thank you once again my friend. ⚡U R the Dude 😎
