Heading to home port at NAS Alameda, Lincoln travels under the 1992 San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. All AC are long gone except an CH-46 Sea Knight, manned by HS-11 Gunbearers, and the shell of an A-4 Phantom II, which we used for AC firefighting training. At this point in our journey to Pier No. 3, we are two hours away from dock jumpers and line handlers. It will be three hours until the fi...

For guidance through AC recovery, the pilots relied on vertical velocity indicators and radar altitude indicators, the LSO, and visual landing aids. Anytime Baby!

I sailed on a sister ship the assisibone 234 . She was my first ship and a great experience . One of my first trips was a run to the arctic to baffin island and Hudson's bay . From there I was transferred to the protecteur 509 . Another great experience and crew
Fast for its time...
A sexy old steamer
Former Banger here. This reaches way back for me. I was on board for the '93 and '94/'95 cruise on the Lincoln before we swapped to the Carl Vinson.
Goodness it settled off the cat
nice work
Nice. The dreaded low settle off the bow. Brown pants moment maybe for the pilot.
Nice
Didn't they have a fire on deck on that ship? A7 gunned a A6 tanker starting one hell of a fire? Happened in the early 90s not sure what carrier it happened on though, it was one of those Presidential named ones.
Nope. You're probably thinking of CV-59, USS Forrestal. aka Forrest Fire
I was in HS-6 with CAG11 at that time.
Nice video, I was with VF-213 during this time I had just gotten to the squadron. I was with the Maintenance Control, my rate was an AZ.
Back before the Great Progressive Destruction.
I worked night shaft in squadron maintenance on board Saratoga and Ranger from 69 to 71. Some night it was maintenance and others it was flight ops are a combination of the two. Most flight ops where 15 to 20 aircraft with about 40 o 50 aircraft on deck at the start of the op. After launch all the remaining aircraft had to be repositioned for the recovery and after recovery they had to be repositioned for the next op. If you thing it is impressive to see the ops in day light try being on the deck in night ops. Visibility around you is shorter and thing like tie down chains disappear under red light. The air wing consisted of more types of aircraft A3, RA5C, A6, A7, F4, E1 or E2, C1 or C2, and several Helicopter types all of which had different thing you had to watch out for. It took 30 minutes of on deck prep time with the aircraft before the flight op started and during a flight op you may be on deck doing maintenance trying to get an aircraft ready for the next op. All this going on with fueling and ordnance added in a 1.5 hour cycle. It was a good time to be young.
odd. Just came from a video where they scuttled that ship..
That F-14 had a fuel leak?
It's the steam from the catapult.
Nice clip, though its a shame its cut so short.
Great feedback. I've got about five more seconds I can include with the video. Many thanks
"Leggo damn you..."
Now i gotta watch Top Gun again lol
1:10 Pilot "Sticks Moving Forward, Aft, Left, Right, Left Rudder, Right Rudder, Good Rudders, Wiping them out..."
Woosh! Pew pew pew!
Just like DCS! 😃👍
Navy needs a new updated Tomcat. Big stealth fighter.
Uh, that is not a KA6D. That is an A6E with a D704 or Sgt Fletcher refueling "buddy store" attached to the centerline pylon.
Great feedback. Many Thanks
WoW! I was on the Lincoln during this time and I was working nights! VAQ-135 Black Ravens EA6B. Thank you!
Beautiful!..
Awesome 👍
such a big aircraft
holy mother of shit
thats US baby
God of sky
Super Tomcat would have been a much better plane than the Super Hornet :(
They did make a super tomcat. The f-14d. It’s a shame such a modern fighter is not in service today
@@emmerspaulo387 the D wasnt the Super Tomcat though.
@@Trig0r according to Wikipedia “The final variant of the F-14 was the F-14D Super Tomcat, first delivered in 1991.”
@@emmerspaulo387 Look up ST21, that would have been the real Super Tomcat...
Also lovingly known as the pothole or speed bump depending on its configuration as planes taxi and land on the deck.
what doing F-14B (A) at the 1992?
Possibly A+
A THING OF beauty
Fascinating to see legacy Hornets, Intruders and Tomcats on the same busy deck 🤩
It is also nice to hear what the old Hawkeyes and Greyhounds used to sound like. The NP2000 props they have now produce a totally different sound than what you hear on this vid.
The sound of old school freedom! God bless the U.S.A
Вопщем пилот должен быть жив
Awesome guys. These guys were shipmates of mine, as I was a greenshirt as well and Plankowner. I left the ship just before this vid was made.
WOW.... wonderful take off....👍👍💪💪💖💖
Thank you for uploading this stuff👍👍🙃
The tail code is NH not HN. N west coast and H for specific carrier/air wing.
Thanks for the feedback. Nice catch
@@iatebreakfast no sweat…..I was with one of the squadrons in this exact air wing. I was out by the time the 1992 video was posted, but spent two cruises with CVW-11. One of which was the six month maiden “WestPac” for the Lincoln immediately before that finished around Thanksgiving 1991.
I've been retired for 11 years and I still have a reoccurring dream that nights is coming and I can't find my wands.
Such a beautiful airplane.
The good old days.
These are not CQ operations but regular cyclic ops. Ordnance is never carried during CQ. It is more common to operate with 3 catapults than 4. One of the bow cats stays a parking area. Events have to have enough aircraft sortied to clear out the extra space.
Great feedback. Many Thanks. My recollection is gray on details and there's a lot of junk info on the internet. I'll update the description and content today. Thanks again.
@@iatebreakfast I precommed Lincoln and left in 90 about 4 months after arriving in Alameda. Fly 3.
What’s the carrier heading?
We had just completed a 4-month SRA (selected restricted availability) maintenance cycle at our home port NAS Alameda. We are in the Northern Pacific, somewhere off the coast of the USA. This was our first of four planned workups, prepping for WestPAC deployment to the Arabian Gulf & Somalia.
Thx to you F-14 for great Feelings.
Thanks for this video. I worked the flight deck of the USS Coral Sea, then was CVA-43, later on the 'A' was dropped, from 1960 t0 64. It's very interesting to see the evolution of flight deck procedures, many things the same, and quite a few updated, especially the advent of safety personnel, which were pretty much absent in my day. No complaints I loved it!
🤣 Safety grew exponentially even during my time (86-12). In the early 90s, as a director, I often moved aircraft with no safeties or chock walkers. PS, also a 43 alumni.
