Thrush welded vs. Flowmaster 40 series
มุมมอง 81K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Comparison of single Thrush welded vs. Flowmaster 40 single in dual out on a 1993 Chevy with a 5.7.
Isnt thrush welded a knockoff of the 40 series?
Great video and comparison
I can tell the difference! Flowmaster is the right choice!!!
Exactly what i was looking for! and same engine as me. I went with the Flowmaster simply because of availability but i would have preferred the thrush so i could sport that woodpecker sticker.
Hard to beat a woodpecker sticker!!
Had a thrush on a 97f150 years ago. I thought it sounded great. Thrush 17649 welded I think was the number
Flowmaster won this one-particularly due to the 2outlet style, turning it into a dual exhaust wannabe sound. For comparing exact size and setup aka apples to apples, thrush usually wins over flowmaster it seems...usually
The FM is loud but the Thrush actually sounds good and is keeping it reasonably quiet.there’s a $30 difference in price.if you only want louder you could get a cheat glass pack or bullet muffler.if you want loud,,, there you go.
Thank you! Great video!
Great videos 👍 I like the American made Flowmaster's better than the Chinese produced competition.
Very nice. Thanks for this video. I have a 1990 k1500 and been wondering what a thrush would sound like. Think I’ll stick with the flow master. Really appreciate it!
Nice! That was my choice and I’ve m vet looked back!!
I've used thrush all my life before there was all those other brands just old school I guess
Put a thrush welded on my 5.7 tbi with a hollowed cat it’s way too quiet
It wasn’t that loud on my truck. My buddy just put true duels out of headers, with 2 3/4 pipes from a 5.7 with a medium cam and it’s a little much fit my taste. He loves it and that’s all that matters!
This is exactly how a comparison video should be. Damn near side by side comparison, no chit chat in between. I personally want to hear the products in hopes of making an informed purchase, not a bunch of talking in between.
Thanks! If I would have gotten to running my mouth it probably would’ve drowned out the mufflers!! Thanks again.
On the Thrush did u have single in and single out or dual out? And also is the Thrush just under the truck and pipe(s) coming out or what?
It was a single in and single out with a pipe coming out of the passenger side, just in front of the rear tire.
You made a video like you've been doing it all your life! I like your version the best ,so far. Beautiful truck by the way ...show off your engine next time. Love to see it. Keep up rthe great work. I to am sitting on the fence about Flow master 40 or welded thrush. What did you decide?
I like the Flowmaster the best. Maybe because it has two “out” pipes. It has a little more growl when you get on it. I bought the truck in 1994 slightly used from a police officer that had installed a cherry bomb muffler on it. The flowmaster beats them both in my opinion.
I'm a Flowmaster guy. Time after time Flowmaster just brings out the best in a given car. The Thrush was very good and if I never heard option #2 I would have been ok with it, but Flowmaster wins again. Even if by a narrow margin.
It is a fairly small difference for sure. I still like romping down on the throttle and hearing the purring roar of that new 350!(AKA 5.7!) Big difference with the two out situation.
The 40, 1 in 2 out sounds sweeter! Great video!
I think so too! THANKS!
@@Moss7202 is this with factory catalytic converter(s), aftermarket or none? I’m really trying to find a balance here, I love the smell of catless systems and one less thing to worry about but also not wanting too much rasp or excessive nose. Your 40 series here is great. One other question: Is it original 40, super 40 or delta flow?
@@calebwhite1454 There is no “cat” whatsoever, I bought it in 1994 from a police officer and he had removed it and had a cherry bomb muffler behind it. The muffler that is on it now is an original 40, single in and dual out. It has just the right amount of growl
@@Moss7202 thanks! It’s perfect
Me and the dog enjoyed the vid, thank you sir.
my dog loves that old truck.
That’s a gorgeous truck 🔥
Thanks! I've since had it repainted and interior redone. Love it!!
Awesome video even though it's 3 years old just help me make my decision I will be ordering thrush for my International 200 today👍
Glad I could help
Well, sir. You have helped me decide what to do to my 90 cheyenne. I'm going the thrush route. The flowmaster has a tinny sound to it.
I don't know cavalier, seems a bit "throatier" to me.
Flow master for sure.
I'm a fan for sure.
Thanks Ken!
You're welcome!
Flowmaster
Agree
That thrush sounded better then i thought it would love me some old 40 series always ! Nice job.
You and me both! Thanks!
I have flow master 40 on my 91 love the sound
Yessir...hard to beat.
How long did you smoke the meat for and at what temp.? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
When smoking a Boston butt it usually takes about 5 hours give or take. What you want is an internal temp of 190 degrees. The meat will just fall to pieces at that temp and will make excellent pulled pork!!
They sound so close to each other
Yeah jasonneal they are close. From inside the truck the 40 has a rumble that the Thrush didn't. Changing it to coming out of both sides probably had an effect as well. I love the 40.
Great video sir I loved it. I have a 95 5.7 and now that just made my decision even harder lol. Both sound great!
The change from the "one out" to the "two out" made a significant sound change to me.
Two thumbs up!! You nailed it!! Did you have cats or no cats?
No cat. Was deleted when I bought the truck.
I had the same truck with Thrush and loved it. People would ask me what I had. Mine had turn downs straight off the outlets of the muffler.
I Wish all comparison videos were this way. To the point and no mumbo jumbo from a wishful future youtube celebrity. Nice job sir!!
Thanks! i had a ball doing it, while upgrading my old truck in the process!
Thanks for a great video. Wish they were all like this
Thanks Jadan
Great vidieo
Glad you enjoyed it
Honestly, not a whole lot of difference in sound. Probably the real question is, what do you want to pay for? One is aluminized steel the Thrush , and the Flowmaster I think is stainless. Stainless should last longer. Im soon putting some exhaust on my 99 Tahoe not sure what Im doing yet. I believe my cats are clogged, so I ordered the replacement cat assembly by flowmaster. I hope the doggyness will disappear when all done. I also have a 93 1500 w/4.3 and put a super 44 on it. It sounds good at idle but still sixy when rev. I had issues with my hopped up 4.3 and pulled it. It sounded like a 8 at idle, and good cam tone with the comp cam it has in it. I think a cam lob jacked up on me or something so pulled it and threw in a doner that runs good enough.
Seems like it had a little more UUMMPH in it after I installed it. Broke the crank just after it was in paint shop.
@@Moss7202 I ended up finding out, the exhaust shop I went to was a crook. My cats were not clogged, but the most rear cat was gutted. On the 99 Tahoe there are two cats, and the one that sits more to the rear is the easiest to steal the guts at the mount bracket where rear/front half exhaust meet. Went in for a leak at that connection, ended up with a gutted cat. The cat that sits more forward and hardest to steal inners was still fine. I wasn't sure at time, that he stole it, but my 93 1500 w/4.3 was also worked on by this guy, and recently I notice right behind the cat, where was solid pipe and absolutely no leaks, their was a pipe coupling on it with clamps. I thought that was odd, and sure enough, this guy cut right behind the cat, to steal the guts. So beware of shady exhaust guys. I think he is busting up the inners, and shop vacuuming them out for a extra payout at the scrap yard. If your a known exhaust shop guy, is a scrap yard going to think it's odd to have buckets of cat guts? Probably not.....
Oh very nice, both of them are great but I prefer Flowmaster. H pipe or dual straight pipes without crosspipe on it? Thank you Sr.
how long does the smoke last?
An hour or so... you have to keep feeding it as with any fire. The results are amazing.
Sounds pretty good which is weird I watched other video,s while back on this and they sounded like crap with flow masters I guess they had the camera to close or something or they just had bad equipment
I use a panasonic HC-V700 hand held little recorder. It has an EXCELLENT stereo mic on it that really pics up the sound well on live concerts, music and just general STUFF! Thanks for the "flowers"!
Nice video!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Love the video! It’s helped me a whole lot on deciding what I want for my car. Thanks!
Ya gotta tell me which one!!??!LOL
Ken Murdaugh I’m going with the Thrush which sounds just as good!
Both sound amazing!!
You won't be disappointed with either.
THRUSH WITH TURN DOWNS TURN HEADS AND PUTS SMILES ON TRUCK OWNERS
Yup!
Nice video.. Just ordered a Flowmaster 40 cat back system for my 99 Silverado. Hope it sounds as good as yours!
angus42868 thanks, god luck and let me know!
For singal exhaust flow master but both sound great Can't make a electric car sound like that lol
It might take a litle more effort, but keep trying!!Haha
This is definitely without a doubt one of the best exhaust videos I've seen on the tube! Great job!
Thanks for the "flowers" Felix! I appreciate it!
Excellent job! Exactly what I was looking to hear. I personally like the sound of the Flowmaster, but it also sounded like it might have a little more interior resonance. I think I'll go with the Thrush on my '98 Suburban 5.7. It has dual in / single out factory, but I'll go with the dual in / dual out Thrush.
Thanks Kurt! With it being on a standard cab the muffler is just back from the "listening area". The guy that did the work was a Charles Manson look-a-like that said that he could do a good job and came recommended by one of my sons. 250.00 later(counting the 40 series) I had an exceptional job, complete with index finger size perfectly crafted hangers. I have since told quite a few people about him. I love the rumble!
Great video, sir! Make more!
Thanks randomnumber81!!
Awesome job on the video. Thank you for the effort you put into it!
Thanks
Thrush
40 seems smoother but it may be due to the install being a whole lot better.
What a great video! Great side by side editing. 5 stars!
Thank you sir!!
