What We Been Doing is a DIY channel that primarily features vehicle repair, restoring, customizing, and upgrading. The channel name comes from the social media craze on how friends and family keep up with each other. So the channel is to show what we been doing. We means me and my. My wife and i do most of these projects together and she is normally behind the scenes. this is were the other element of the channel will come from my wife is going to be dipping her toes into furniture repair, restoration, and alteration, but behind the scenes of course.

Cadillac CTS Interior Color Change Pt.7 (Rear Door Transformation)
มุมมอง 8756 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I'm continuing the upholstery project on my CTS. In this video I show in detail the parts of changing the door color that I believe are important to another DIYer that might want to attempt this task.

My kinda attention to detail, nicely done sir!
Great job brother. The other guy needs to drink the sugar he showed on the TH-cam. Thanks you to show us everything to drop the tank.
Yo bro where are you getting all the parts and stuff from
Thank you for making the video. How many hours would you say it took you to do the entire job?
Thank you🙏
I took the headliner down and the back part sags down near the back windshield center area where the light dome is any fix to make it not sag?
IMHO, the engineers were really stupid not to leave a fuel pump access port on those vehicles and other Cadillac models like the SRX's, but on our side of the problem, WE are more stupid than they are if we don't make one. PROPERLY making one does not create any safety issues or devalue the car in any way. I have fixed dozens of Cadillac fuel pumps by making such access ports and customers have thanked me many times over for having done so.
How you teach yourself how to do that ?
I just started with regular fabric and moved up
You good man i watch the whole video and you did that
Very nice job on that black out interior brother it gives the car an updated look
I need to do this, I assume you got the black panels from a junk yard ? Not painted right ?
The only thing painted is dash
eBay Is where I got them
Best choice I made was cutting the hole…should of been there in the first place…caddy’s are a piece to work on…I can’t wait till mine finally goes
How did you ensure it was properly sealed?
@@okoegwale30 turned on my car and watched for leaks...its just a locking ring and a big rubber o ring
@@poopywelder I’m talking about the hole you cut
Try invest in a better set of wrenches
They seem to work good enough to complete the job. You should try adding value to a conversation or remain quiet.
@@okoegwale30 sir, you are correct. I appreciate the quality of your video. I thought you did a great job with it. It’s just that my initial observation watching you use a second wrench to gain leverage seemed like not so good a technique. Two points I make; I use tools to work on aircraft ‘cause that’s my trade. I know from the decades of my labor that there always is a better way to do a job, if only we knew beforehand. That comes with years of experience. Expenditures on tooling is another matter. I have an ‘08 STS and my fuel pump works, I don’t have starting issues however the pressure is below specs so I wanted to see what replacing it requires. From watching your video I learned that it takes quite a bit of effort. Again my apologies. I didn’t want to offend you but did anyhow. My bad.
@@douglassorge6235 thanks for the apology. I too am a aircraft’s mechanic 20 years and I do understand the right too for the job concept. However, This was my first video and my intention was to show how to do the job with basic hand tools. But, check your trunk. I could be wrong but the sts and cts has some differences and I think the sts has access to the pump in the trunk.
@@okoegwale30 I wish what you said were true but all the Cadillac techs say otherwise. Frowns…
@@douglassorge6235 yeah I just checked and I’m wrong
U should include what tools/socket sizes u need to remove the interior
American cars are made junk from factory, that’s why they fail, parts are cheap, frame cheap, metal material cheap, they don’t last long, engines are made poorly
I had this car from new 2008 to 2020. because I have a different car now. And it never failed the only parts I ever bought for it was brakes. Fuel pump and a door actuator. Cosmetically it was great the whole time. Maybe I just got lucky with my car or maybe your wrong. Maybe if you’re a good owner and take proper care of your car it will last. That’s just my opinion.
That's a lot of work looking good though..it takes skills, time and patience I did not expect to be seeing you sewing but you nailed it keep up the good work bro.
Yo I been thinking about changing mine to black 🔥
Greetings Sir, I commend your commitment and diligence with removing your subframe. I too own a Cadillac Cts and have removed my subframe as well. However for you to remove the subframe with extremely basic tools and makeshift items is incredible. I applaud you Sir..
I kind of like the tan dash with the black 🤷♂️
Nicely done, the interior matches the exterior much better this way. Thanks for posting you helped me learn how the headliner comes down so I can seal a leak on my antenna!
Good video big dog my CTS just started leaking
Hey man when you get time get in contact with me
You didn't need to do all that you could gain access to fuel pump under the back seat
Yeah, it had to happen. The is no access under the seat as stated in the video.
Awesome video. thanks alot bro.
Fly idea to paint,Play'ah
same i cut an access ,it was super easy to cut . cars arent built like they used to be
Could you help me out with measurements? I need to that
sir i do have 2008 caddilac and i have acces from the trunk
Then you don’t have a CTS
if you dont have acces from inside then make one
That an option that you can choose to exercise. However, I did not.
when you removed the front windshield A-pillars, did you start at the top of the pillar with a trim tool? if not, how did you get them off? any advice or feedback would be helpful and appreciated. thanks in advance.
Pull the weather strip off first then it’s pretty easy. There is a different clip for the air bag but once you see you’ll understand how to remove it.
@@okoegwale30 Got it, weather stripper first. Appreciate your help. Thanks for the feedback.
Great video!
Did you also paint the sunroof shade? Or did you buy it? Btw the car looks great! I’m trying to do something similar since mine it’s damaged by cigarette burns by the previous owner. I have a black interior with the titanium columns, headliner so it’s only half the work to make it all black
Yeah i used a fabric paint but in hindsight wouldn’t have done it. It just didn’t match all the way. Thank for the compliment though
@@okoegwale30Hey I know this is an older video but you did a great job. When you painted the sunroof shade, did you take it out or just paint it in the car while it was extended?
In the car just mask the glass
@@okoegwale30thanks brother. I’m doing it this weekend!
W O W!! !! !! Holy expletive!! You are So talented! Oh and brave too. I could never do that, even with you standing by my side the whole time. VERY IMPRESSIVE! Thank you so much for the video. Great job!!
Good video but on most Cadillacs there is a panel in the trunk towards the passenger side
This is not a STS its a CTS so no panel trust me
That's pretty impressive!!!
Is it the same on the sts
Clasick3124 not sure
Great video, thanks so much for posting! I tried to do the epoxy fix on the elbow and worked for several months but started leaking again. So out with the old fuel pump assembly and in with the new.
One thing I might add, the hammer and screwdriver use to get the lock ring off and back on didn't fly. What did work well was getting a friend and two pair of channel locks on either side of the lock ring.
Does this happened often or is it wear and tear I have one 2008 51,000 miles thx
Kishia B. It seems common at the time of the video I had about 90k on it
You got rid of yours did it happen again I'm thinking maybe I should but never had any other major problems thx
Kishia B. No I still have it and this is the only problem I’ve had with this car up till now it’s always ran great
@@okoegwale30 one more question sorry when you was done did it stop once or putt then run smooth or is this normal until gas runs out what causes this you know
Kishia B. None of that my car never did anything to indicate something was wrong. It drove fine until the day I replaced the pump I smelled gas and started looking for the leak. When it was done it started like normal and every thing has been good since.
Excellent video, man! Love the fact that you couldn't find a video anywhere so you made your own. This video helped insanely so I can mentally and emotionally prepare myself for this torture-fest😁. I've been wrenching for over 20 years and have cone across countless times where I just needed a little helping from a video of something and can't find one anywhere. I can never remember to make videos of my my own tortures, I mean work, hahaaaaa! Anyhow, excellent video indeed. Clear audio, well spoken/understood, detailed informative clips of each part of the process, but not 6 hours long! 😂🤣 It doesn't get much better than that! Thanks a million!
Yeah boy, you got it. Thanks.
Best Caddy vid I've seen this week. I got a CTS thanks for the how to on removing center. Watched cause I needed to track a leak. Peace.
Easier to just buy a different car....lol
Where would the fuel filter be at
Francisco Francisco it is in the tank and is replaced when the pump is replaced.
Could you replace filter without replacing pump ?
hey where u located? i would come to yu to get a color change
Adam White Sr. Northern California
Great job for a first video... Very helpful info...
appreciate the info bro
Did u disconnect the battery to stop the airbags from deploying?
Yep
Shit, Boss you want to do my headliner and pillars cause they are grey, and I don't think I could do it...good job
Thanks bro! I really appreciate it.
I was just curious if the front seat covers could be put on with the seats installed? If not, how many harnesses do I have to unplug? I’m sorry. You’re the only one that has ANYTHING related to putting a new seat cover on a CTS
ExileZO There is one harness wit three plugs. If you have an 08 - 14 you will find it in front of the seat under the canvas cover. You do need to remove the seat if you’re working on the bottom half, it’s two bolts in the back or the seat an the seatbelt that keeps it in. You’ll need torx bits for all three bolt. After that just lean the seat forward and the front will unhook. Oh yeah tilt the seat forward befor disconnecting the harness.
Do you have any video of you putting the new black seat covers together on the fronts? I could really use your help a reference.
No I didn’t keep the video. I felt like I beat that to death with the back seat. But I will answer any questions you have if I can
