    This aircraft could not meet the evolving requirements for a front line Naval fighter/attack aircraft. It lacked the volume and the generator capacity to run the most moderen look down, beyond visual range radar systems and ECM gear, and did not have nearly enough payload, and it only had one engine. It was obsolete even before it took its first flight.

    The cruiser was HELena, not heLAYna. The Panther had a tighter turn radius but the MiG had a better turn rate, and the Panther probably had a better roll rate. The Panther had arguably the best armament installation of any plane in the conflict. These Russian pilots were probably in their first combat.

    • @Completeaerogeek
      @Completeaerogeek ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm The Meteor had 4 20mm cannon and the MiG 15 23mm + 30mm. The rate of roll would be reduced if there was any fuel in the tip tanks.

    It is noteworthy that the Panther was armed with four 20mm cannon as opposed to the Air Force's F-86 which used six .50 cal. machine guns.

    I worked at Grumman in the 1980s in structural design. My first boss was a guy who cut his teeth on the panther program. I was young and ignorant, but he recalled how he came up with a chin and sprocket system to extend the radome and access a new radar unit they were designing to mount. Im glad I finally learned more about the Panther.

      @@bobharrison7693 Would you nit pick if V1s were landing around your house? 99% of TH-cam commentators do not realise that the V1 speed *_near sea level_* was a huge hurdle for fighter interception. They don’t know that the published piston engine fighter top speeds were up at altitudes where the piston engines were running the top supercharger revs at the full throttle height for the engine boost. Do you give credit to U.S. Navy pilots who shot down _kamikaze_ planes before they incinerated U.S. sailors?

    Great video overall. I think you might integrate more of the other side PoV into it as it would have anchored more context in the matter. For exemple, the whole goal of helping the American revolution, as Charles Maurice de Talleyrand stated, was to weakened Britain and reduce it's income throught export and import. Cutting the UK's market in Europe was the next step to further isolate them and was carried out later on by Napoleon Bonaparte by de Talleyrand's advice. In truth, that plan was originally Talleyrand's under Louis XVI's rule, continued during the "Reign of Terror" and carried until failure by Napoleon himself. Therefore, the treaty that insured the Americano-Britain's traderoute was deemed as borderline treacherous back in France, as it was the main purpose of their involvement to begin with. In the eyes of the french, it was almost as if they had gone almost brankrupt for nothing. As such, seizing and pillaging was used as a mean to further distrupt the traderoute or at least mobilize a portion of Britain's navy in an attempt to weaken the Royal navy roaming the "English Channel".

    So Britain aided in kicking France out of North America. After which, you folks realised Britain was no longer needed, and America then got France to help kick Britain out as well. Then America skilfully avoided paying back most of it's revolutionary war debts under legal technicalities. A masterclass on how to play both sides. Gotta admit, your country was founded by some very shrewd politicians. Greetings from England.

      The production Crusader III still would've had the Colts, though they were frankly useless due to the poorly designed feeding mechanism. The feeding system would jam under anything more than 1 G, and there was no recocking system to clear jams. Basically, if your guns jammed mid-flight, they just became dead weight. The Crusader scored 17 out of the 19 total kills with Sidewinders, anyway.

    Not sure what they were thinking. One of the best things about the Crusader was it's maneuverability which earned it the nickname "the last gunfighter". While the Super Crusader was still maneuverable, with the increased speed, it wasn't really necessary. In fact, it was superfluous, as dogfights take place at much lower speeds. So you end up complicating the design by introducing new components, which were sometimes prone to failure, when you already had a superb aircraft.

    • @Tigershark_3082
      @Tigershark_3082 ปีที่แล้ว

      This thing was kinda meant to be more of an interceptor than close-quarters dogfighter, hence having a far more powerful radar and AIM-7 Sparrows. It also had absolutely zero ability to do any sort of ground attack, like what the Navy required, hence why the Phantom was chosen.

    • @neutronalchemist3241
      @neutronalchemist3241 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was the theory. Reality, when the "not manuverability, or guns, needed" F4 had been introduced, and used in actual combat, was that high speed could not be mantained in combat, because you had to manuver to come in launch position, and sustained turning decreased speed.

    • @neutronalchemist3241
      @neutronalchemist3241 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Tigershark_3082 It had zero ability to do any sort of ground attack because the Navy didn't require it at the start. The bid was for an interceptor/interdictor. Otherwise it would have had 6 hardponts, like the A7.
