I finally came across a 16mm print of this film after looking for it for decades. I wish it were in better shape, or a 35mm print. The sound track has a huge scratch right through the middle, but I tried my best to still get some enjoyable quality out of it. At least we can now hear Bob Crosby introducing his musicians and see his band perform a few incredible titles. Some of them were used in ...

Actually it was referred to as "Hot" music. The genre "Swing" was adapted from "Hot" music, and I think swing officially became a genre during around 1935-1936

RCA actually had to _cut back_ on the fidelity of their commercial recordings sometime in 1933. The acoustic phonos still in general use were chewing up the delicate groove segments carrying the high frequencies. This created annoying hiss and scratch long before the rest of the groove began to wear. The June '34 track we're hearing clearly had much of the old hi-fi, however it was achieved. Details are scarce, but one factor was still in place: the RCA 44 ribbon microphone, introduced in 1932 and a standby in radio and recording for decades.

Great recording - amazing fidelity for 1932. Ramona was a very talented performer and a great pianist. Unfortunate that she didn't have a longer career with more high quality recordings and film shorts. Interesting that they had the technology for high fidelity but very few could afford an electric phonograph. They were also experimenting with long play records at that time. Listeners back then were impressed with their AM radio sound since it was a big improvement over the common acoustic Victrola most people had (in varying states of condition).

Super tune by Mr Cotton, excellent sound quality, thank you for sharing & for keeping the music alive. I appreciate the effort you take to add these amazing tunes to TH-cam. William Edward Cotton, 6th May 1899 - 25th March 1969. Billy Cotton suffered a stroke. He died in 1969 while watching a boxing match at Wembley Arena, aged 69. He had an amazing life his biography is worth reading "I Did It My Way" 1970.
