Damn good I'd say dad!
A bit good!
How lovely to hear graham hearn again on keys..me old piano teacher and a smashing bloke n all!
Beeching was not responsible for closing any lines. He only wrote the report. Barbara Castle closed the lines. Horbury station closed in 1971 not 1961.
Not forgetting Ernest Marples.
This is Cwite ReMarkwabular
Great video thanks. The Anglian, Wacca's Feld later called Wachefeld sometimes referred to as 'Merry Wakefield' was the site of rural festivals or 'Wakes'.
The German rail system is not nationalised anymore and hasn't been since 1994. DB is government-owned, yes, but there are also plenty of private operators on regional lines. In some areas, such as some parts of Saxony, DB runs no regional trains at all. There are also an increasing of private long-distance operators, though they are not subsidised as regional lines are. The biggest one is currently the HKX (Hamburg-Köln-Express) from Hamburg to Cologne. Also, the German rail terms are a bit complicated. I've tried to explain them: * DR - Deutsche Reichsbahn (German Empire Railway): nationalised railway in whole of Germany from 1923 to 1945 and in Eastern Germany (+West Berlin) from 1945 to 1993) * DB - Deutsche Bundesbahn (German Federal Railway): nationalised railway in Western Germany from 1945 to 1993 * DB - Deutsche Bahn (German Railway): private, but government-owned railway company since 1994. Still holds the de facto monopole on long-distance and high speed trains Train categories: * ICE (Intercity-Express): high speed trains (mostly EMUs, and some DMUs and loco-hauled trains) * IC/EC (Intercity, Eurocity): long-distance but not high speed trains throughout the country. EuroCity trains continue into neighbouring countries. * RE - Regional-Express: fast regional service, which only calls at bigger stations. The most important RE services are operated with double-decker trains, such as the RE5 (Rhein-Express) shown here. * RB - Regionalbahn: local train, which stops at every single station (except when parallel S-Bahn services are available). Mostly operated with small DMUs or EMUs or older loco-hauled trains. * S - S-Bahn: suburban or commuter train, which only operates in and around the big cities. Operates with fast EMUs and sometimes has metro-like stations and routes. There also other categories (IRE, SE, M, HEX, MRB, etc.) used in some regions but this would be too much in one comment ---- * U - U-Bahn: The same as metro, subway, tube, underground or whatsoever * Stadtbahn: (mostly high-floor) tram services which use tunnel sections in the city centre. Only found in Western Germany * Straßenbahn: this is the tramway or streetcar.
many mistakes
Hi, this is a very nice and informative video. I am not an German but I am living here since quite a few years. I am sorry to point out few small mistakes from the video. The RE is a Regional Express but not a Rhine Express, The train that you showed in 6:10 minute is an IC ( Inter City) and the ICE train travels at an speed of 330 kmph up to 360 kmph (average top speed 300 kmph). And as mentioned earlier, not all the cities have the UBahn ( Metro trains) and the Strasse Bahn (Trams) as same transit system, for an example Munich has a well defined network of UBahn and also a well defined network of Trams. Both are separate and spread all across the city. Thanks :)
Hey very nice video. :-) I'm from Germany and I think that the Railway system is very good here. but there is one little misstake... RE doesn't mean "Rhein-Express". There are other REs in other cities which are not along the rhine. The "R" stands for Regional. Means that this train conects 2 or 3 big cities and the villiages in between. For example there is the RE8 and the RB27 both are trains going from Koblenz over cologne to mönchengladbach (RE8) and to Rommerskirchen (RB27) the differences between RE and RB is just the fact that a RE train is faster. A RB train stops at every station on the way to the end of the line. sorry for my bad english ;-) just wanted to say that but everything else was very interesting good job
Excellent vantage shots of the trains arrival. Whoever filmed the footage did a great job with this. It looks excellent in black and white. Great music. Very well produced. Wish I still had my RAF uniform now!
What a lovely video, wish i could have been their my self well done.
I love this number and this is surprisingly good. Would love to hear these boys record in a sound studio.
Absolutely brilliant film capturing the mood of the weekend. Congratulations.
Wow my mums amazing;)
How do these ghost towns die out? Slowly or quickly like Chernobyl? I mean, did the residents just slowly move out over the course of years when gold was less and less available or did the mayor just say get out?
Why do so little structures remain standing? Were the ones that are left just built w/better materials or were some of the buildings dismantled for scrap?
Thank you for posting. I found this site by accident but watched your complete video as it was very informative. M. MacLaughlin Ontario, Canada
Love it!

Excellent. Looks good in mono and with appropriate music too.
Very funny Mel - like it!
Great insight into hidden treasures and very nicely put together. Highly recommend watching as many of this channels videos as possible as they are just the right length to be informative and retain interest.
