@@richardtodorov A very well documented saga, this has been proven with documents from McLaren in period.
@@TheRacingYears his choice of words are very much noticeable and subjective, just have to pay attention and know history outside of what TH-cam videos tell you
@@richardtodorov Please look in to this before accusing, having known Steve for a number of years we have spoken in great depth on this and it’s backed up by his fantastic team that made it happen.
@@TheRacingYears yes you’re telling me to listen to fantastic team telling a story on TH-cam, that’s rich. Don’t show your invested interest so badly
@@richardtodorov We aren’t making you watch any content that we have uploaded on this platform, it is a channel where information from industry figures that may not have otherwise been heard, is shared. If you are not keen on the content that is fine but your negativity is not welcome. Thanks The Racing Years
Love the A40 - what shade of white is that paint job - looks amazing (will be painting mine next summer). Cheers from NZ
Hi I'm Grant Kern from New Zealand. I'm currently building a A40 race car and would like to know where you got the 800 lb coil springs from. Currently have 400lb and after seeing your video think maybe to light
why is my newsfeed full of guys repairing broken cars instead of this? great talk. liked, subscribed, commented.
@@whattheluck7 thank you very much, this means a lot and I couldn’t agree more. Not many people want this format nowadays they would rather have 10 seconds of cars sliding around and move on the the next video. More will come soon
most successful? Aldo Costa is my friend... even more than Newey and Rory Byrne
He has one of the greatest voices in motor racing.
What adds the most performance to one of these cars? Bang for buck with no rules but keeping the cars original appearance what would you recommend?
I have the car now the mk2
Hi Edward, you have got yourself a very pretty little car I’m sure it will bring you a lot of joy!
The Mk1 looks like an original colour, ocean blue with a black roof. I had a 1960 one in that colour as my first car when my Dad bought a new Triumph 1300 and I took it over. 7834 RE was the number. I kept it standard except for twin SU carbs in place of the original single zenith, so it was more like the engine in the Frogeye Sprite. I also fitted a rev counter. Great little car in its day but rusted like everything did back then so had new inner and outer sills done. The original quoted top speed on the 948cc car was 72mph, so I was chuffed when I could get mine over 85!
Coming to F1 in 2025
Typically great video, Jake! Topical and useful content, succinctly delivered. You’re a natural presenter. And this is the future…
I notice he never told us the price around NZ$5.75 per litre I think that a bit much.
Thank you for your comment, you’re correct it’s not cheap compared with fossil fuel.. however, 2 years ago it was at £50 a litre!! So we are going the right way the more that is brought the cheaper it becomes.
@@TheRacingYears The issue is will it become cheaper then the equivalent EV electric running cost. If not then it's going no were just like Hydrogen. I think for the average daily runaround EV have just screwed ICE. As such the few ICE vehicles that will be left will never make this fuel viable.
I'd rather have my petrol car at $5.75 a litre than an electric car which - with all costs taken into account including depreciation - costs me around $10,000 - $12,000 per year.
@@jonathanparle8429You have the right to do that but and EV will be cheaper to use a you daily driver by a long way
This is for the people that can afford to go classic car racing at the Goodwood Revival meeting. Since it comes from waste, and it probably only qualifies as "green" because it uses waste, and therefore the carbon involved in creating that waste is not counted, I don't think the process is going to scale up to become a competitor with EVs for your daily driver.
Pat Moss rallied one in the day
Great, P1 seem very concerned from the Information in the link... So they will make it as cheap as possible and make as little PROFIT as possible to help the climate... won't they?????
Absolutely!! As I’m sure you’re aware the margins on fuel are very small and the profit for the average fossil fuel provider comes from selling a huge amount of litres. P1 also have incredibly small margin, just enough to cover the cost of making the fuel, it will come down drastically when the sales go up and soon will compete with fossil fuel prices.
How much a litre is it?
This is the real question lol... even if it's absurdly pricy, it's at least a promising proof of concept. I'd love to see production scaled up, expanded to other countries, and sold through pumps.
Hi Bill, currently they are selling it at just over £6 a litre. The price will come down pretty rapidly if the sales go up this year
I notice he never told us the price around NZ$5.75 per litre I think that a bit much.
Really interesting video! The future of racing is looking good 🏎️
Great work! Very interesting 👌🏼
Excellent, for me this is the future of motoring 💯 %
Lovely pair!
Great listen, great stories
These were fabulous little cars . I had a Mk 1 Farina Countryman as my first car. Index number was UDR 277 but I cannot remember the year of manufacture. I still have a number of spares in my workshop if they are any good to you. I wish I had never got rid of my A40. One day I'll buy another fully restored one. By the way, mine was also finished in Horizon Blue with the black roof.
Simon Taylor is a gent, he took the time to advise me on our Vintage Sports Car Around the Houses Race/Event
Too young to catch Mike's early career but remember the green f5000 cars and the f3 Ensigns well. Always fast on the track and always a gentleman in the paddock with time for enquiring schoolboys. Innes would be proud......
This is brilliant! I saw and photographed the AC Ace at a recent London Concours. It looked amazing!
Interesting talk. Senna died in 1994 by the way.
Small block V 8’s are the Americans greatest contribution to the automotive world.
Couldn’t agree more an incredible engine !
Great cars and stories, well done 👍🏾
Thank you! Thanks for watching !
Really really interesting but the audio is rather poor sadly.
Hi Mark thanks for your comment. Apologies on the audio this was a spur of the moment video that we were not prepared for the next one will be better!
I remember reading about his acquisition of the Stovebolt Special in Classic Car about 25 years ago & then about its subsequent nut & bolt restoration. Thankfully TH-cam has brought it to life for me & I've been able to see how it performs & hear how it sounds.
Hi Gary thank you for your comment, the stovebolt is a spectacle. If you ever get chance to come to Shelsley Walsh and see it in the flesh, I can guarantee you it’s worth it!!
@@TheRacingYears As much as I'd love to, living on the Southern Point of the African continent, with crippling exchange rates, I doubt that will ever happen.
Simon contributes to Classic & Sportscar and has been writing there about his drives... Missed opportunity to not talk about what he has on the shelves behind the cars. I think he has a collection of early years of car magazines. (Car, Motor.....etc.) Such a wealth of information must be in there!
His collection of books is truly mesmerising, Simon and I spoke for hours about his career and looked through some books of his. He talks more about them in the interview series I did with him so this was more about the cars but maybe we should re visit and go through some of his books, thank you.
Once again I find it myself asking where is Queen Jolene when we need her ??
Some lovely machines there and just a few books, quite surprised he could go straight to the right book to show the special on the front cover
An absolute fountain of knowledge, he knows this place like the back of his hand !!
Is Steve the most successful F1 designer or is it Adrian? I believe it is Adrian.
An interesting question and one that we touch on in the video, the mp4/4 that Steve designed has technically dominated more of the season in percentage terms in the 1988 seasons than any other F1 car had done before or since. Steve however has great respect for Adrian as he mentions but currently from a dominating point of view Steve’s car was more successful. A great pub chat though!!
@@TheRacingYears what statistics are you referring to? Percentage of most wins in a season is last year’s RB.
Another cracking video Jake, looking forward to seeing the garage with Simon
Hey... Did you do the F1 Liveries channel?
It’s not me no
Good interview that, will watch pt2 shortly
Neat to see the two cars and all that old paperwork, I've quite a bit of early documentation for my Mk1 too 👍
It must be one of the only a40s with all of the paperwork from the day it was born! Thanks for watching
Another great video, a lifetime in F1 will always be a great watch from the pit lane stories aspect
My first car in 1969; a 1963 Mk2 A40. And not soon after, my first speeding ticket.
Haha who would of thought some 50 years later people are still racing them!!
good video, but a tip: Saying "yea" 500 times adds nothing and is not necessary for an interview
Noted thank you
Excellent video thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching Doug
Petrol in veins you have Jake, your passion for the classics is second to none son.
Superb! You should bring one along to the A40 club meet at the Coventry Transport Museum on the 28th October 😉
Thank you for your comment, unfortunately neither are road legal but it would be great to chat to likeminded people!
Great to see the passion you have for these cars! Can’t wait to see more of these!! Very professional 😁👍
Fabulous to hear about how these cars were transformed and brought to life. Jake shows his skill, immense knowledge and passion for this type of Motorsport. Just a question of time before gets snapped up by a TV network in presenting. Jeremy Clarkson, watch out! Can't wait for more like this.
Cracking video giving an insight in to the life of Steve Nichols, which Jake carefully brings to life through skillful questioning and a real passion. Top quality again.
Very professional and interesting to hear about the differences between the two 😁
Love this type of video! So interesting learning about these ace little cars 👌🏼 Would love to see more like this! 😄
Again, another fantastic video! Really interesting stories from Steve and great knowledge and questions from Jake 😊 Would love to see a pt.2!
quality yet again mate. keep these videos coming!
