Fighting Alatreon using Asmongold's 'build'

Poor quality vid, just needed a quick render. Nothing special, just a demo vid for a buddy intended to show some(albeit very sloppy) higher level play using the bow.
I just wish they didnt put Succession and Forbearance in as most there were so many other weapons they could have done that were sunset… Season of Dawn weapons for example, or more Black Armory ones
Evade window charm off rip is crazy tbh
He doesn't have fortify?
Anything with patient can be killed in this game, but asmon is someone that doesn't have it at all, besides his arrogance, thinking that everything should work or understand at once or else is trash, so stubborn to accept people's help at the point to ban someone who just send bits with an advice... Yup, if he someday face fatalis i would wishe him pretty good luck LoL
Man I have a far better build and can't even get to the first elemental check. On the verge of uninstalling and never playing world.
No need to do that, be patient. It took me several days of attempts for my first kill. You need to put in the time to learn the fight by heart so you know all your openings. Remember that to hit the check element is key which means you need to land more attacks and not necessarily stronger attacks. Learn combos that deal the highest elemental damage and remember to aim for the front legs which take the most elemental damage. I suggest making sure you know the fight by doing at least one run in which you do not attack but simply avoid getting hit whilst staying in attack range(do not run away) so you can learn not only how to read and avoid all his attacks but also how long you have during each opening. Pay attention to sound cues, animation cues, which moves he likes to combo and how long each move takes him to complete before starting his next one. Like all monsters he'll typically only use moves that can hit you in your current position or he'll reposition to get a better aim. You can usually know what move he's going to use based on what could hit you currently or what could hit you from his new position. Bringing the cat will complicate this but your cat helps with damage. If you can avoid getting hit entirely by the time he does his judgement then you should have learned a lot. Also remember that hitting him twice during your openings will double your elemental damage output, it seems obvious but double damage means half as many required hits which is massive.
@@phenixryte23 Hi. Thank you for the suggestions and tips on how to fight or at least get ready for the fight. I will try these, and best the beast hopefully
If you don't mind sharing, what build and weapon are you using?
@@painsenpai01 currently using rajang helm, garuga boots, three piece teo. Max crit, crit boost, tenderizer, 6 ice attack, 3 hp boost. With ff barioth swaxe. Just augmented it with hp leech and one element. Will upgrade the slots and add another element upgrade.
The hunt will get easier if you spam jumping wide slash untill you got the elemental topple
A propper simulation of the quest from event list is to jump straight down at the beginning of the quest. No slinger load, no wall bang sequence and no buff until you in the hunt zone. That is how the quest used to start.
well, it would also help if you knew how to play the weapon and knew the monster. his build is god awful, don’t get me wrong. i don’t think i’ve seen something that bad since base game… but if you knew what you were doing the fight wouldn’t have been as slow
To the people defending asmon. His attitude is what sucks. If you watch his streams you know. Is narrow minded, stubborn and full of himself refusing to properly play the game. Some people say so far didnt really get stuck but tbh getting totally stuck is still pretty hard with 50 mins to spare and restock for healing.
well, imnot defending asmon, I dont even watch him. But im pretty tired of this "meta" mentality that make people think they are good. Easily, 90% of the people talking shit didnt even TRY to solo alatreon, they just did it when they could outgear the match after being carried through it. Whatever he lacked on his run, which are alot, he compensated with gameplay... something build andies couldnt understand...
@@Mckudenomg i dont know if you project that elitism onto me but its a big difference to be open minded and to learn the tools the game offers VS demanding some kind of meta build of him. If you didnt watch him your input here is totally out of place anyway. Basically people tried to be nice and also respecting him not wanting to get spoiled. Yet he was heavily annoyed when people hinted on him using tackle for his GS gameplay. I soloed alatreon when he came out. 51 tries for the first kill. I played 1,2k hours and i used optimized builds that i build alone but obviously i wasnt a speed runner who went 100% dps. His gameplay was poor because he was too caught up not taking any advice (even advice the game gives you) and proceeded due to having partially too good gear at some points and non stop chugging potions. I have no problem if you arnt the best player but someone so stubborn to learn and use the tools the game gives you while being arrogant and aggressive towards his viewers is despiseful. Dont bring you problem into a conversation that is not revolving around what you speak off. Im a pretty nice guy to play with and be around but his behaviour pissed me off and i explained why.
@@Corey91666 he is not necessarily narrow minded, he just wants to play the game as he is discovering it, almost blind basically and he doesnt like people telling him what to do. TBH I started MHW right after him and I’m up to Alatreon too and he pretty much did better than me most of the game(like Raging Brachy took me 3 tries solo and he did it on 2, Furious Rajan took me 2 tries he did it first time etc), as a new player there are so many mechanics that I dont know about or struggle to learn along with other things(only worked out how to do Wallbangs post Iceborne, I didnt know the keybinds for it on PC lol). Stuff like crafting via hotkey is still something I’m trying to figure out how to do on MnK despite being at Alatreon.
@@oksobasically3278 the amount of tries does not necessarily indicate who is better. MB he grinded more to max out his defense. You can go all defense and win every Encounter first try but if it takes you 1 try of 35 min getting thrashed or 3 tries were you use better gameplay but mb get 2 shotted due to having defensive shortcomings in your build then you still have better gameplay. Regarding playing blind. I 100% understand if you want to do that but why have chat live then if you want to go blind? He still got alot of advice if you believe it or Not. He still asked chat about stuff. Things you probably didnt do. He IS narrow minded. He reached an age and level of self awarness were he has his reality build. He knows how things work in his world. Im 33 years old and for the most part i consider myself knowing about life too. Whats good and Bad and how things work in life. Why people behave certain ways etc. But in regards to MH he is a noob with very low dignity as its normal to learn about the Games features after even quite some hours. Its arrogant to believe he knows how the game rolls and how it should be. Even I after 1200 hours in mhwib am a noob in comparism to very dedicated MH players. I am decent. I have seen almost everything in the game etc. but even i can still learn alot if i would dare to play more. However, currently i consider myself done with mh and i had a great time with it and learned alot.
Bro you are doing it wrong. Asmon never brings 5 Max potions mats for hunts. Should have bring 10 mega pots only smh. And he is always using Blight Resistance 3 as his charm on Alatreon btw.
That's incorrect, Asmon used Evasion Charm 3 in his original attempts seen here - th-cam.com/video/7JV-kvckb9E/w-d-xo.html
@@phenixryte23 If you are talking about his original attempt then it would be using Lighbreaker which would be stupid i know, but that is his original build. He did 3 builds there tho, and he sticks the longest with the Blight resistance one so i don't think it's fair to call a one run his 'build' even thought he runs with the other build more.
What was this recorded on?! The quality and graphics are horrendous!
The urge to critique you and the frustration from not being able to because the build is someone else's are both incredibly strong
I understand. I've rewatched the vid several times and I tear myself apart for every obvious mistake and the overall inefficient strategy. This is far from my best performance.
@@phenixryte23 it's not even that, it's more so I wanna tell you your build is shit but it's in the title, it isn't your build 🤣
Lol dragon blight and not max out ice attack.
🫡👍
So basically you are saying that Asmongold issue when fighting alatreon is skill issue?
it's 100% a skill issue LOL
Asmon literally just brute forces anything and everything and the luck he has has been so good. In Alatreon, you can't rely on luck and you gotta actually learn how to play properly and build properly. Sadly because he doesn't understand that he won't get further. He always says "I don't know how it works so I don't want to use it yet" but how will he learn if he doesn't try. I'm honestly surprised how far he's gotten, beating furious rajang and raging brachy, while not even knowing how to wallbang and how to use any items besides mega potion and potion. The dude literally has protagonist luck. Good job tho in beating Alatreon with his build and although you carted twice by escathon and got the res from palico, I still see this as an absolute dub with how you beat it using his build and not even having great sword as your main weapon.
Thanks, it was definitely sloppy compared to my usual Alatreon runs but my intent wasn't to show off, just see if it was possible for the average player and hopefully give a little encouragement to anyone who sees it.
to be honest you can brute force alatreon by just kiling him before you cart 3 times
Well this aged like milk
@@Red_Lake hahahahaha I know right. Guy ended up beating alatreon lmao
@@MysticGohan01 fatalis next baby and all without clutch claw wall bangs
Honestly, his build isn't terrible. The fact that it has Weakness Exploit 3, Focus 3 and Health Boost 3 already puts it way above your average player's "I'm going to wear what looks cool" build, and the fact that he, you know, actually engaged with the system instead of just turning his brain off and googling "MHW best builds" like most players is commendable.
His build is pretty awful, so reliant on tanking hits with divine blessing and health boost rather than trying to learn the fight and beat the dps check
Since you're clearly doing wall bangs and eating nullberries, why not go for slinger to TCS? just curious
I'm bad at Greatsword.
@@phenixryte23 Ah got it. For what it's worth, I think you did alright in this vid
asmonds gs doesnt have an augment.
Neither does the one I use. You can see it's un-augmented when I display my equipment at the start and end of the video.

Somehow not even one of the top 10 worst sets I've seen online.
I know he’s probably not returning to MHW. But it would be interesting to see his reaction to this video.
He returned already and tried Safi'jiiva for the first time
he returned already & beat the alatreon solo yesterday
I mean why Asmongold?? I watched his stream and most of his videos, He is not good imo.
The point is that Asmon has been taking insanely suboptimal builds into this fight and has come up against a total brick wall (he's been bruteforcing everything in the game with bad builds but has not been able to brute force Ala). Even after replacing the build shown in this video with a better one, he's still been unable to beat Ala. This guy just wanted to show that you CAN beat Alatreon with one of the worst builds Asmon has been using to fight it, you just have to play better and actually understand the game mechanics.
"A hunter never gives up!" Thats the problem here. You're a hunter, Asmongold is a streamer with minute amount of build making skill and hunting talent.
Streaming doesnt stop person from getting good. Its Asmons choice to rush and avoid learning. If he stopped to engage with chat on builds and stats it would still be a good content. Same as practicing moves adviced by chat. But he bans those who give him the most basic tips he refuses to learn. How long it took him to use flash pods, flashflies or vigorwasps?! 🤦♀️
Personally I think he definitely can do it. He was just hesitating on a lot of the openings that he had. It'll take him a long ass time to learn the fight but let's see if he actually has the patience to do this hunt.
I feel like he definitely would have an easier time if he went with the ff barioth gs or xiphas gladius like most people said instead of listening to the like 4 dumbasses that said the velkhana gs was fine
Velk GS is fine with ice attack boost but don't think asmon never had that. He's using barioth now and got really close though.
He probably heard Velkana Frostcraft GS and assumed they meant you needed its actual sword
Great job, I only ever watched some parts of his alatreon stream but I can understand why he's struggling alot, and honestly I respect him for not SOSing and trying to do it solo. It took me like an entire afternoon and some grinding in guiding lands for health augment to finally take this thing down solo and even then I don't think I can pull it off again (I have skill issue). Still a very fun fight and probably my second favorite in world right after fatalis.
Respect him? Sure he didnt use other players to cary him... he just gave up after like 3 tries. No rethinking build, no looking into armory for better skills, no TCS on sleeping monster, no flashpods. Basically no trying. I am absolutelly shocked that he is a souls boy with this kind of attitude towards imrovement and learning the game (including basics)
@@herenaakuma85 None of what you said is even close to how he is playing. He's had like 3 different streams totaling more than 6 hours of attempt with each stream improving and changing gear accordingly. Even 4 days ago he's done a stream and while his build might not be perfect it's still frostfang gs + frostcraft which I find one of the best matchup for alatreon. Yes, he is a slow learner but the way you put it sounds nothing like how he is approaching the game right now.
@@bliss6417 oh, so he crawled back. Good. Last time i was recomended his MH video was when he barely got introduced to Ala, still didnt use TCS on sleeping boss, tried 3 times where one was with r. brachy stuff and gave up saying "i dont think i'll try him again. Its too hard". He sounded straight up bored, annoyed and unmotivated to continue
@@herenaakuma85 Most people that talk like you got carried through alatreon and just tried solo when they could outgear the fight and going full build andy. I dont even watch his stream, but he totally deserve respect for what he achieved. Any gamer that is not brain rotten by the "meta" mentality understand.
@@Mckudenomg nah. I didnt beat Ala yet (at least the real/ stronger one). My first save got demaged when i got to black dragons and barely touched him as i didnt have elemental weapons (im a child of blas) and i just got back to him. I refuse to use black dragon gear on Ala until i beat him... ALONE. I also dont join or SOS anyone. I always went with "first kill must be just mine" (with rare excepions loke R brachy, F Rajang or Fatty that i go for with only my friend first) I never seen him as impossible, most of his moves are slight redisigns of all previous monsters from Worldborn. Going first time into his fight i felt fairly familiar with him. He just forces player into elemental builds and to learn how to avoid his attacks while also being close enought to go back to attacking, becouse DPS check. I've already killed weaker Ala first try (after 3 tries on stronger Ala, it was so brittle in comparison to stronger one it made me laugh) and now on stronger Im already breaking his element and horns regularly and it was maybe like 6 attempts. I use IG from FF Barioth and Glavenus + armor including azure era parts for that silver rathalos blessing. It took me 2 or 3 hunts to craft it. Mind that I am no veteran of MH. Worldborn was my first MH game. The thing is that thru out the game i would learn new stuff that i encountered. I learned about feeding kinsect like in half way thru iceborn and learned it gladly as its easy way to raise dmg and stam on a bug. Meanwhile Asmon came to Ala still unable to use TCS or many other usefull basic things and said "he's too hard". Ala is perfect post end-game elder as it perfectly encapsules everything from the entire game and tries skills of hunters. Those who dont pay attention (like Asmon) or run on the backs of others will see him stupidly hard or even impossible, those who paid attention will see him as doable even if it means failing 8-12 times and building new sets Update edit: I just killed stronger Ala. It took me 40min and 3 carts (with safeguard) and it was around 10-12 try but those last 3 tries were fun. Avoiding Ala in the air with IG is so cool 🤩 I'll take Ala IG to Fatty. I already have it fully upgraded, just no augments but its still fantastic weapon :3
honestly all if he added 1 more piece of velk the crit element would help him so much lol
15% aff
@@caperocker6269 yeah crit element wouldn't have helped lol

Does having the same build as Asmon mean you have to play how he played?
@@sakuranohana1014 I guess not. You wouldn't beat Alatreon that way.
@@sakuranohana1014 well that depends on the purpose of this video
Anyone have a build that they can recommend using Kjarr ice GS or Safi Ice GS? I have both and i plan to use a Frostcraft build. But im not sure on exact skill setup. I was motivated by Asmon quitting and failing this so I want to solo Alatreon for the first time lol. I believe in proper preparatio though and prefer to follow meta but in looking, builds are all over the place for Alatreon. As a test I used the Safi ice GS FC build I have so far on Raging Brachy who i had also never solo'd and absolutely obliterated him. I was surprised it was that smooth.
i think u should run the safi gs because with the kjarr gs it gives u crit element fro free but if ur planning to run frostcraft with velk u would already have crit element from the 2 piece velk bonus so better to run it with a ice safi gs with elemental upgrades. use 4 piece velk and maybe 1 good piece of raging brachy for the extra agitator or maybe frostfang for the punishing draw and 2 points of crit eye for the charms use a max upg frost charm and make sure u have max hp boost and 2 or 3 points into evade window. make sure u have lvl 6 ice atk btw the frost charm doesn't give u max ice atk edit: coalescence is also very good so make sure to use all the velk pieces with it, for more comfort put 2 points of blight resist so u can still proc coalescence, if not just use null berries and don't forget to eat for safeguard ( there are videos to teach you how to get the safeguard meal, u need to use a gourmet voucher to have 100 percent chance of procing safeguard )
My only major advice is that all GS attacks (as with every weapon) do the same amount of elemental damage, your strongest and weakest are identical in terms of element so when in the fire/ice phase you should prioritize getting more hits rather than big hits. Don't bother charging and just try to combo the front legs until you get that first knockdown then maximize damage on the head. Repeat.
Arms on 1st phase, Head on 2nd phase.
Get blight resistance level 2 or 3 if you don't want to eat mulberries. Note that level two will only reduce the duration of the blight
Instead of crippling your build with this elemental trash you can just embrace the unga bunga life, go full raw with the Raging Brachy GS and bigdick him. You will cart every time he does Escaton, but its fine as long as you don't cart to his regular attacks. If you have enough DPS to kill him before he does 3 Escatons (or 4 if you eat for Safeguard or Insurance) you win.
:( Not a 1:1 of what Asmongold has to deal with. This event quest allows you to start at camp, use consumables, and grab slinger ammo. The one he's doing just puts you right in front of Alatreon, no consumables, no slinger ammo. You're already starting off with some big advantages. You should make a new character and get to the Alatreon fight to see his actual experience. You literally start off by putting on a mantle and wall bashes it for free damage and a knock down. His build it crap, he breezed through the game not learning any of it's core mechanics for advanced fights like a dumbass, but you're version of this isn't what he has to deal with.
I think the video is explicitly "if I were asmongold, and I had nothing but what he was provided, then would I manage against Alatreon?" Asmongold being really careless and only operating on a low skill level will always make asmon disadvantaged. And while yes you cmget throw into the quest, you can still manage wallbangs when you're experienced in using them, which Asmon never did
wtf is blud yapping about?
The dickeating is crazy
Doesn't that quest also has Alatreon's life reduced by like 50%? Significantly easier.
@elcugo no, you're mistaking it for another special assignment "dawn's triumph" - quest to unlock fatalis(dont even have to kill real alatreon). It has 1/5 hp alatreon.
asmon barely uses consumables. also the just of what i got out of this is that asmon will literally never beable to solo alatreon unless he gets a better build and or gets people to carry him.rip nooblet asmon
Is it really an Asmongold build if you're not running around chugging mega potions 80% of the time?
Haha exactly
i know what you mean. LOL.. keep in mind asmond has probably only watched a couple of MHW videos on how to use the GS and also he only alot of times he's playing the game like its VANILLA MHW. - no clutch claw and wall bang.
@@LazyPixcell Wall banging alatreon is difficult tho, there's barely any wall in the stage T_T

His build was SERIOUSLY lacking, only +4 Ice Attack? No Health Regen? Not even max Criteye...didn't even have proper sharpness management...he failed before even starting the quest. What really annoys me is that he build Velk's Greatsword over building Frostfang Barioth GS or Frozen Tuna.
he is a casual player who streams almost everyday, playing (currently) some other games as well. You really expect everyone to grind this game for 200+ hours? I'm certain he doesn't even know frostfang barioth because the game doesn't tell shit about it being in the game or its weapons.
he hadnt unlocked frostfang yet mate
@@IH4teMyS3lfFrostfang gear is available to make as soon as you as you discover the guiding lands since it's an MR24 event quest that's always available so yes he has it unlocked. He's just lazy af and didn't wanna go out of the way for it because making mediocre gear and pretending it's fine was easier for him.
I think part of the problem is that the game doesn’t lock alatreon behind a higher MR, so he hasn’t spent the time to get augments and such. However, he also sees people in chat suggesting things like Frostfang GS and health augment and just goes “well I don’t know what that is” and doesn’t stop to think that he should actually learn what they are instead of ignoring them
He still doesn't know how to wall bang and tenderize. He's done with MHW. Let's move on.
You seem to have made the fatal mistake of using a proper item loadout. Real ones only bring mega/max potions and restock half a dozen times in a single hunt
I only bring mega and max because the goal is to not get hit. it's worked so far
@@tyrant3191 idk how far you are, but having the right items for the situation can make a big difference if you are struggling. Especially with alatreon, bringing combo materials for more max potions allows you to waste much less time healing, which is important to get the elemental topples (in this vid you can see they always go for a max potion to heal, and it easily could have been the difference that got them one elemental topple). If you like doing high dps, wasting less time healing = more time hitting the monster bc you will always get hit no matter how hard you try
@@SpunkyPotato987 that's what health augment is for, get hit then just TCS yourself back to full and don't get hit again. I get what you mean, but similar to asmon I don't like using resources in games because that anxiety they create with the potential of running out when you REALLY need them, even if that time never comes and you end the game with 9999 of every ingredient. I'd rather fail a hunt 10 times learning the monsters pattern than to use all my resources on potentially finishing one hunt when there are hundreds more to go.
