When all is Darkness - Adam Isidto
When all is Darkness is an art-song I composed this past winter, with the text from St.Ignatius of Loyola, ‘Prayer Against Depression’. I remember hearing about St.Ignatius’ long battle against depression, and praying this prayer for the first time when I too was in a period of darkness and confusion. Not only did I feel God’s presence with me, but I was so inspired that I decided to write a piece using this text.
This piece follows a linear story from darkness to light, with the singer representing the person praying, and the piano representing their mental state. With complex polyrhythms, layered chromaticism and a strict 4/4 time signature representing a sort of desolate mental prison in the first half of the piece, the second half contains simple rhythms, diatonic harmony and no time signature to represent serenity, mental stability and freedom. Despite being based on a Catholic prayer, I hoped everyone can relate to this piece, and one day find peace in their lives too.
Big thanks to Andrew and Zabrina for working so hard on the piece, and for giving a remarkable performance last April!

Start Where You Stand - Adam Isidto
มุมมอง 1473 หลายเดือนก่อน
Last winter, I saw a call for score with the UBC Vox and Oriana choirs looking for a piece for their year-end concert. And as I was looking for inspiration to write them a piece, I stumbled upon the poetry of Berton Braley and his ‘Start Where You Stand’. I was both captivated and left reassured through a powerful message of letting go of the past, and living in the present. It was a message th...
Hair Ties - Adam Isidto

A funny story about this piece: Back in September, I went on a date with my girlfriend and we had a great day. I dropped her off home and went on my way too, but I wasn’t feeling great on the drive home. I felt sad that we weren’t together anymore, and I thought about all the great memories we made that day. I was feeling sentimental and extremely heavy hearted, I drove slowly on the way home. ...
Etude op.8 no.12 - A.Scriabin
มุมมอง 545 หลายเดือนก่อน
Studio Recital for Dr.Dawson with my Original Composition !! Scriabin’s Etude in D# Minor is a pianists dream, especially used for encores in concerts. The fiery bass line, colorful chord changes and passionate melody all help give this piece its legendary status! It certainly wasn’t easy for me to learn. It was the first Scriabin piece I’ve studied, so all of his writing, hand positions and mu...
Contemplations on 'Guernica' - Adam Isidto, UBC Contemporary Players
มุมมอง 285 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have always been inspired by the art of Pablo Picasso, particularly his 1937 masterpiece 'Guernica'. It's an anti-war mural commenting on the violent bombing of the basque town of Guernica in Spain, around the time of the Second World War. When I look at the painting, I find myself in shock from the chaos, grief, death, pain, and horror thats prevalent in the painting, so I decided to write a...
The Siren - Adam Isidto, UBC Art Song Premieres Concert
มุมมอง 46ปีที่แล้ว
Siren’s are these evil beings from Greek Mythology, that lure sailors with their beautiful voices and drown them in the sea. But to me, Sirens were more than some tall tale, they represented the idea of toxic relationships. When I wrote the poetry for this piece, I made sure that the Siren (the singer) never says ‘I love you’ or ‘I care about you’, and that all the Siren would say is full of li...
The Ghost of Banquo - Adam Isidto, UBC World Premieres Concert
มุมมอง 59ปีที่แล้ว
"But now I am cabined, cribbed, confined, bound in To saucy doubts and fears..." Shakespeare, Macbeth I composed this solo piano piece based off of Shakespeare's Macbeth, specifically in act 3 scene 4 where Macbeth sees the ghost of Banquo. I first studied the play back in highschool, and was always interested in the fear and anxiety felt by Macbeth in this scene. Just this past February, I dec...
Lavender Sunset - Adam Isidto, UBC Composers Concert
มุมมอง 180ปีที่แล้ว
"Lavender Sunset" is a piece very dear to my heart, and is one I'm very proud of composing. This was written way back in 2020 and was apart of a larger suite, "Evolution" in which each movement represents one of the major eras in classical music (full suite is on my channel!) Lavender Sunset is a romantic/impressionist piece that paints a picture of the sunset fading peacefully into the night. ...
Kyrie - Adam Isidto
มุมมอง 362 ปีที่แล้ว
My fascination with choir music started when I first volunteered as a singer at my church. Through many rehearsals in combination with learning music theory, I practiced writing 4-part pieces. This Kyrie began with the first 8 bars, I was just fiddling with chord progressions in different inversions and eventually settled on something that I liked and the rest of the piece just followed suit. M...
Refined Love - Adam Isidto
มุมมอง 272 ปีที่แล้ว
The piece 'Refined Love' is based on the poem Can vei la lauzeta mover by Bernard Ventadorn. I gravitated towards the tone and the second stanza in particular. I loved how people almost 1000 years ago had the same emotions as us, and so I was inspired to write my own piece based on his text. The form is roughly AAB which follows the most common form of that time. The drastically dissonant and a...
Isidto - Psychedelic Waltz

This is the fifth piece from the 'Evolution' Suite for Solo Piano by Adam Isidto. It was finally time to let loose. The first page foreshadows the entire piece. Each section in the intro contains sections which repeat later in the waltz. The main theme is played from outside. Imagine you’re getting ready to dance at a big ballroom. As you’re waiting outside, you can faintly hear the melody of t...

This is the fourth piece from the 'Evolution' Suite for Solo Piano. I had plans. I was gonna call it ‘Lavender Sunset. It’s gonna have an opening coda that would repeat at the end. It’s gonna sound beautiful! After this I thought I was all set, boy was I wrong. I started writing the opening coda and the first theme on October 1, but then I went on a 2 week hiatus from not writing simply because...
Isidto - Intermezzo-Romance
มุมมอง 1013 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the third piece and is from the 'Evolution' Suite for Solo Piano by Adam Isidto. I didn’t expect to have such a hard time writing this piece. But after, a while, I sat at my piano, turned on my voice recorder and improvised on some ideas I thought were good, this later turned into my piece. My piece is in ‘ABA’ form. This choice was pulled from Chopin’s nocturne in C minor. I also add a...

This is the second piece from the 'Evolution' Suite for Solo Piano by Adam Isidto. I wrote the 2nd movement first, only because I knew exactly how I wanted it to sound. It took me 2 days to write it. When I was writing the 3rd movement next, I remember being at the beach with my family. I pulled out the Garageband app to try to create some ideas for the piece The first movement was the hardest ...
Isidto - Toccata in A Minor
มุมมอง 2343 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the first piece from the 'Evolution' Suite for Solo Piano by Adam Isidto. I wanted the first piece in the suite to catch everyone's attention. I wanted fast runs, dramatic chords, a minor key signature, oscillating right and left hand passages and I wanted to write about the major styles of the era as well. This is why I chose to write a Toccata. A Toccata is a piece composed of fast se...

The body dies, it means the body is not aware? There is no point in talking for the body?? Death! We are not around to enjoy it?! Natures way of relaxing?!

There is a darkness coming upon this world - For those who may dislike my comment - it is a warning. Warning people of impending danger is a kindness to them. All that is happening is moving the world quickly towards the 7-year Tribulation prophesied in the Bible's books of Daniel and Revelation. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14); you must be born again (John 3). I belong to Him and I eagerly wait for the Rapture of those who are Christ's prior to this Tribulation. You have a choice to make in order to not be left behind. Luke 17:26-35 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed...on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.” Apocalypse means "revealing". Revelation 1:1-3 - "The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw-that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."
