Making the equine community a better place to be, one horse at a time
Slim’s Journey
Had to update since this video has been seen more than I thought it would.
1) I made this video for the new family as well as those who donated supplies to help Slim. I did NOT accept ANY monetary donations and will continue to do so on the next rescue horse. I do this because I love doing it. I love helping animals. If I did it for monetary gain, I wouldn’t be doing it. I’ve spent over $7,000 fixing this horse and I would do it all over again because it makes me feel good to see a horse happy.
2) Stupid comments telling me how to ride and how the horse is going to be abused again will be deleted immediately. How messed up in the head are you to comment something like that on a video where I very clearly care about this animal? You’ve got issues if you think I’d let this horse go to just anyone. So keep it to yourself :) And if you’re not smart enough to read this before you comment, maybe you should get off social media.
Thank you SO SO much to everyone who helped in the process of rescuing this incredible, kind horse from death’s door. It’s been a long and worrisome journey, but this boy has recovered quickly and has pushed through to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Slim now belongs to some AMAZING people that adopted him to be the family horse! He adores them and will live out the rest of his beautiful life being loved, ridden and FED!
I am speechless about this whole journey. Horses like this one do not come around often, and when you meet one like him, it rekindles a feeling you get as a kid, when your whole room is decorated with horses, you spend your days drawing horses, and you count down the days until you can see one again. And then you realize this is why you do this. The feeling of seeing a family get their first horse is the happiest thing I’ve experienced and I’m not only honored to be a part of Slim’s journey, but a part of theirs as well.
Pouring one less bucket of feed tonight was a bitter sweet feeling, but I just couldn’t be happier or more grateful right now.

Messing around with Slim
มุมมอง 126หลายเดือนก่อน
Slim was a previously starved red dun quarter horse stallion who found his way to our ranch. He has since gained several hundred pounds and been gelded, (though he was a wonderful and extremely well behaved stallion, I do not have/ did not receive papers on him) I started today with showing him how to back up undersaddle. He is idiot proof!
Mongolian Legend 7-22-24

Casually trying out lunging Mongolian Legend. This gives him a chance to safely stretch his legs out without turning him loose and risking him hurting himself. Today I did not ask much of him, as it is the first time he has ever lunged! He did a LOT of trying today and did a great job figuring out what I wanted him to do! The reason I saddled him AFTER “lunging” is because I want him to have a ...

Cocoa- 6 year old miniature sooty buckskin mare
มุมมอง 1078 หลายเดือนก่อน
Cocoa is a 6 year old miniature mare who takes pride in being the kids horse deluxe! She was left very long in the foot by the previous owner, so she is still a bit stiff and getting used to her new feet. I stretch her knees and hocks every day to help her adjust, and keep her in a very thick bedded stall. She requires little to no maintenance besides keeping her feet trimmer regularly, giving ...

Okay full disclaimer before you come at me: I did not plan to ride today so I wore comfies. Also the whole property is under construction, there was a lot going on at once. Sit back, relax and enjoy the chaos😁

มุมมอง 150ปีที่แล้ว
Dipper joined Blazing My Way Ranch on July 13th, 2023. His teeth were floated July 28th and has gained several hundred pounds since these videos were taken. I made sure to put a couple rides on him the day after he arrived to put a marker on where he was in training. He since has been out in the pasture eating with 2 older horses and is very happy, shiny and fat! He is non confrontational and t...

The temps were low and our hopes were high! We may have frozen our butts off but we had a great time and got some great videos we wanted to share with you! We ran into a very kind park ranger who waited for us to see all the buildings with our horses before informing us they don’t allow horses on the tourist plot where all the old buildings with the history of the 6th Texas cavalry, and the Uni...

Seeing him brought tears to my eyes. I would like to see the human that let this happen go thru the same thing😡
Such a beautiful horse, so good care you are taking, I like your Film very much
You have done an amazing kindness to this poor neglected horse. You have helped him find his purpose for living. I also like the way you choose to tell the story. Very nicely-produced video! Not too much narration and I liked the subtitles. Thank you for this. It was quite moving to watch. Well done!
Thank you to all who made his recovery possible.
What a beautiful story. 🥰😍 He looks absolutely amazing and happy. And now he has a little horse crazy girl of his own. I looked over your video because I was curious what breed of horse he is. I'm guessing either a quarter horse (with a lot of Thoroughbred) or a thoroughbred? I'm always amazed that someone would do this to a horse.
It broke my heart to see this sweet gentle soul in this condition. Despite all he went through he maintained his kind heart and could be trusted to look after a child. Horses are better than humans. Period.
I bet he hates all the baby talk and having a huge fat woman sitting on him.
Well done you saved him! You clearly love this beautiful horse and his lovely laid back nature makes him so special.thank you Please watch over him all of his life
Well done you saved him! You clearly love this beautiful horse and his lovely laid back nature makes him so special.thank you
I thought he was a goner at first and then to see him brought back to life brought a tear and Im not usually like that. Im happy for that horse. Im happy for you too.
😊
Wonderful job,but he always looks so sad. With your love and attention he will continue to heal.
Well that made me cry. Excellent job. What a very good boy and how wonderful that he'll live out the rest of his life loved and cared for. He'd be my perfect horse if I could have one... Maybe someday.
Wow, even in his condition he's gorgeous. Would love to see him when he's fully recovered.
This made me cry. Seeing a very skinny horse to becoming the horse Slim should be. THANK YOU. ❤❤❤
Sad to see this beautiful boy so neglected hope karma pays this person a visit great job on bring him back to health
This is so wonderful. It's sad and scary to think that such a good horse got into such a bad state. One would hope that a good-minded, broke, nice horse like Slim would never fall victim to neglect, but it obviously happened. And if you hadn't intervened, he would have died for no reason at all other than people had failed him. You kept telling him he was "a good horse" and he truly was. I have to believe he was loved at one point in his life and then fell into the wrong hands. What a shame it would have been for him to die and never have the chance to be someone's "good boy" again. That's all he wanted to be. Thank you for what you did for him. You're a good person!
Sad to think of how many other really good horses do not get rescued! Yet people just keep breeding them.
This makes me so sad. How can anyone treat an animal like this? You are a wonderful person to rescue this horse. I’m looking forward to his progress.
He’s beautiful!
You are a True Horse 😇 Angel! God Bless you🙏
Congratulations on caring enough to save this precious horse's life! I don't know if you've ever watched the "Clever Cowgirl". She has successfully saved many horses from starvation and she follows a very careful protocol in the refeeding process, and also in determining when they are strong enough for a farrier or to manage a trip to the vet. This greatly helps to avoid the risk of them dying from the refeeding or a vet visit etc. If you have a vet that's pretty invested in helping starving horses, they may be willing to come to your place for that first visit. So glad that everything turned out for the best!
@@jenisecoronado5555 that is incredible! Yeah the 2nd vet visit was with a new vet that cares enough to come out to the ranch, he is incredible and the only vet I’ll ever use again! After I told the first vet Slim was peeing red and I needed a vet to come out to test him immediately, they basically told me I was out of luck, so I either had to get him down there or figure it out. The 2nd vet, north Texas veterinary hospital, goes out of their way to make sure all my babies are comfortable
Clever Cowgirl taught me a lot about refeeding.
My goodness! Such a heartwarming story. Love and appreciation to all who were involved in his recovery. God bless the beasts and the children. May the remainder of his days be filled with peace, love and joy.
what a wonderful job you have done. Is he a Tennessee walking horse. and what are yellowjackets, .I’m from England
@@sarahhelliwell thank you! he is a quarter horse! Yellow jackets are like nasty little stinging wasps/ bees. They’re small and they made a nest on one of my windows on the side of the house. Slim would sometimes wander that way and I think one day he got too close. Still aren’t 100% sure how it happened but the vet confirmed it to be an insect sting, and I found the nest that day trying to figure out what happened to him
❤❤❤❤ este pobrecito caballo se recuperará muy pronto con tanto amor tan bonito gracias por el vídeo y cuidar siempre de este precioso caballo ❤❤❤❤
Wonderful the way you show his journey to recovery
Thanks for doing this❣Thanks for your time, care and love your are giving to him. It takes a special person to do this 🧡❤💫
When he wanted to finish that food in the trailer it broke dam of tears!
@@toniweston4330 oh my gosh I know, I was apologizing profusely pulling him out of there. I kept saying “I have food in your stall, I promise!!” Had to let him take a grass break
Long ago I heard about two starving geldings on a fancy breeding farm. When I arrived we took the golf cart way in the back swampy pen. My friend took one, I took the other. John was so thin and weak when he came off the trailer he went down and I thought that was it. 32 years he lived a better life then his first 3 years.
Well done to all of you; you did a fantastic job. (UK)
Amazing, you ans Slim did an amazing job getting his body and mind back!
I missed previous videos that would tell his age and breed. Do you have links? Very touching and interesting. Thank you!
@@dianabrown833 hello! I don’t have any previous videos on him, this video was made mainly for the supply donators and the new owners and I didn’t expect it to be seen by so many! The vet and dentist aged him around 10-15 and he is a quarter horse but the AQHA couldn’t find DNA on file to try and find his papers
At 16:20 he looks lame in the back at the trot.
He was not muscled up at all at that point. He’s right as rain now, and moves fine out in the pasture. That was the first ride for him in who knows how long, so I expected it to not be perfect.
@blazingmyway it's also ok to do literally riding on lame horse. I jump my 14.1 rescue and at 22yr old he is a little lame behind. However I always allow him to say no, so he only does what he wants to do, and no more.
He lack the necessary muscle tone to carry a rider properly. Unfortunately most of that tone is often only gained by supporting a rider. The important thing is taking it slow & listening to the horse.
Wgat colour is he, he has a dorsal stripe, red dun ? Thank you for all the loving care needed to get him healthy 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
@@jillp3761 he is a really low contrast red dun! You have to look really hard to see the primal markings on the legs, from far away he just looks chestnut!
This a beautiful video. Thank you for saving Slim and preparing him for his new life.
Just ❤❤❤❤ the way you cared for this boy.
He’s beautiful!! I’m in horse envy!! Bless you for bringing him to his best life! Tears of joy.
Love that 'horse envy'! Sweet. Me too!
@@katherinebosse5706 I always say when I die I want to come back as one of my horses🤣 Sounds conceded but sometimes I stop and say to myself “did you even brush your hair today?” While literally putting baby powder in their armpits🤣🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
@@blazingmyway the love and care shine right through your video so, yes, I believe you about the hair brushing!! You are doing Gods’ work my dear so you just keep doing you and know you are appreciated!
What a beautiful horse. Thank goodness you saved him.
How old is he?
@@mauvibauer1828 The vet and dentist aged him to be around 10-15
Re feeding a horse is an enormous project. Nutrients plus mash in multiple meals. Well done. Good luck to all md blessings.
Is he gaited?
@@cmuir6757 he’s not, he was just so wobbly and lame when he first came in
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a horse this skinny. It’s hard to watch. 😮
@@bru1015 he was heartbreaking. Around the time he started looking like a bald little seal and his body was growing faster than the hair could fill in, I knew he was going to thrive. That’s when I could kick back and really enjoy him and feed him like a normal horse!
What an amazing story here. Truly a sweet horse, and the commitment and love shown to him is inspiring. I hope you are still in touch with his new family, the young girl seemed like a wonderful partner for him. He was also a beautiful mover. May blessings flow for this horse.
@@myronschabe he is a gorgeous mover now! I loved hearing about how she dotes all over him and put braids in his hair the first night. Makes me remember when I first got my old boy!
Amazing job you did! Kudos to you!
Got lovely paces…what an all around great horse…How lucky you are to be able to offer him such a great transformation.
Who allows a horse to get into this condition? This is so heartbreaking. He’s still beautiful even in that condition. Thank you for helping him
How can a horse be that thin yet have such a healthy looking coat surely someone must have been trying to take care of him......
@@jillp3761 that’s the part I wonder about too. His gut health was exceptional. His coat immediately shined after his first bath! I wonder if someone was stopping and giving him food because there is no way he went a year without hoof care but a year without food entirely. He survived off something!
There is a special place in hades for abusers of horses and dogs. Both are so in touch with humans. And a special place in heaven for the rescuers and those who work to restore them to there rightful condition.
Whoever starved that animal should be held responsible.
A problem with his teeth ?? Some other problem ?? His coat looks so good, does anyone have an explanation ???
@@jillp3761 his teeth were great actually, and I had them done in August. The owner literally told me his extended family just left, and forgot this horse. I don’t know how much of the story I believe because it’s hard to just forget a horse, but nonetheless, he wasn’t fed properly for a very long time
His feet!
He is looking more beautiful all the time. When is farrier coming
