    I loved it how ABC used to usher their new daytime soaps as Sunday Night Movie specials the day before they premiered in their regular timeslots. I believe this aired the following day in its regular timeslot and the first real timeslot episode premiered the following day on Tuesday June 28th, 1983.

      @bobfortvsoaps4638 Thank you. Where did they move from ? Or , where did they live originally before moving to Corinth , Pennsylvania ? Did any of the writers reside in the South , or were any of the writers originally from a Southern State ? 🤔

    Why the exaggerated southern accents and southern names and characters when it is set in Corinth , Pennsylvania ? Were the writers from Georgia ? Certainly seems like it . Especially with Perry Stephens from Alabama and Linden Ashby from Florida - adds to the Southerness . Why wasn't it set in the South considering ?

      Don't quote me on this because I might not be right, but I think Agnes Nixon from All My Children, One Life to Live, and The City produced Loving and she was a northern girl which is why it took place in Pennsylvania where AMC's Pine Valley and Llanview took place which were fictional suburbs of Philadelphia. I think a lot of people from the north originated from the South, so everything had a southern tone to it back in those days.

    Dorothy Lyman played Gwen frame on another world as well as appearing on the soap operas all my children generations and guiding light . before those soaps I read that she appeared on one life to live back in the 70s as a nun . That probably was her very first soap followed by AW. Then those other soaps which she would appear on in that order. I never knew that Ann Williams had passed until someone here on the comment board had brought it up .loved her on search for tomorrow. all of the NBC and CBS daytime soaps were my Main focus the ABC soaps came much later by the late 80s I've watched all of them though past and present so technically the ABC shows came into my life in the mid 80s I remember watching the final years of the edge of night I still remember when Jerry pulled a Micheal Myers and wound up killing his own sister Alicia who was the shows villainous at the finale of that show..such great memories of the soaps back in the 80s and now Lorna is playing Diane again on the young and the restless the only soap out of the four remaining soaps that I can tolerate although iam getting a little used to general hospital . As for the other two um no way Jose. I will take both general hospital and the young and the restless any day there is a good reason why the latter is still #1 in the ratings after all of these years. Ryan's hope loving and one life to live and general hospital were ABC much better shows GH can be a little so so at times but the other three were the better ones besides edge. I don't care what anybody says it should be loving that should've been ABC sole surviving soap IMO

    No mention of "Edge of Night" in the ABC daytime promo. Poor show was treated like a stepchild that the network didn't care about to promote.

    • @MarcasJohnson
      @MarcasJohnson 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      ABC and Proctor & Gamble bumped heads in the mid 80s because even though and correct me if I'm wrong, the edge of night was the only Procter & Gamble soap that has aired on the alphabet network ABC wanted to take over the copyrights of the show and proctor & gamble were not having it. The ratings were beginning to drop, and was running out of sponsors if you notice when watching the opening credits of the edge of night when it was aired on ABC at the end of those opening credits from 1980-1984, there was always a sponsor so long story short ABC was forced to cancel the show which edge went offon December 28, 1984 I thought it was very sad because I loved watching the show on ABC

    • @sedrickgilbert7682
      @sedrickgilbert7682 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MarcasJohnson, ABC cancelled the show at the end of 1984 after it became apparent that even more affiliate stations were going to drop Edge at the beginning of 1985, which would have led to even lower ratings. Afflilate clearance issues were a problem for the show the entire time it was on ABC, as many stations didn't air it in the intended timeslot or at all.

I quess a number of women must like mob and cartel bad guys . Never figured out what that had to do with a Hospital . Love the music and sets of Loving . Clearly Loving should have been set in a southern State and not Pennsylvania .

    Pamela Blair briefly appeared on another world as a madam . This was when Josie I believe was a call girl . Also Jennifer was a better Meg on as the world turns. She should never had been replaced she was the one and only Meg. Not all actors or actresses can be replaced. If you can't bring the original performer back then don't bring back the character sometimes you have actors and actresses can be replaced but not all of them.

    From the first look at him, you knew that Garth Slater was someone to dislike at sight first. His venom towards poor June was distinct. And we all knew it. For Ann Williams, it would be, sadly, her last soap role. For she'd die in 1985, of cancer. This soap allowed her to reunite with John Cunningham, whom she knew from Search for Tomorrow (he played Wade Collins, one of Janet Bergman's husbands, and she played Jo's sister, Eunice). This show had a treasure trove of talent in the early years. Teri Keane (Edge of Night), Wesley Addy, Augusta Dabney (Young Doctor Malone), Tom Ligon (Young and Restless), Pamela Blair (Annie, the movie), John Shearin (The Doctors) Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) among various others.

      Loving was right in the middle of telling television's first incest storyline in Summer of 1983 when the network ordered it abruptly stopped. So Garth was killed, June went to jail for murder, and Lily went to a mental hospital. So in the fall of 83 ABC's movie of the week, "Something About Amelia", starting Ted Danson, could be touted as the first program on tv to deal with the subject. Real fans know that Loving was first.

    • @SeeingEyeMultimedia
      @SeeingEyeMultimedia 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I imagine Douglas Marland (the show's co-writer must've saved the storyline). The Lange storyline on As the World Turns tackled father/daughter incest when he was their soap's head scribe.

I was able to transfer it to DVD but of course it does show it's age despite being recorded in SP mode, as tv's weren't in High Defination yet! Still I'm happy with it!

      I wouldn't call it a failure though it lasted more than a decade. New soap operas in this era didn't last that long as there was a few that only got a year or two. I think you are right about the lack of consistency which probably kept it from reaching the 2000s.
