This is really just a problem in general with Twitch and the obsession with money. I'm old, been on Twitch since early 2012, and pre-Amazon twitch was all about community. Something cool is being done with Art or Music? Literally everyone on Twitch knows about it, is talking about it, is redirecting into it. Channels blew up over night and careers were made just by people talking and seeing something cool and wanting to share it. 'Bleed Purple' was a genuine thing, where people cared about Twitch and Twitch cared about the community. After Amazon came in the site got way bigger, and they made no effort at all to maintain that community. Now streamers and fans just care about their community, and their friends, and no one in the fps community cares at all about what's happening in art or music, or if some sick speedrun strat was just discovered. While before people liked to share the spotlight and help others be discovered, now that's looked down on because so many people on the site couldn't care less about Twitch, they just are there to try and make a career and lots of money. Pre-Amazon Twitch Rivals could have just been an event for bragging rights. Everyone gets the same amount of money (or no money at all) and instead you're competing for golden emotes or a 'champion' title / border, of a trophy icon next to your name in other chats etc, and having those bragging rights would have been enough. Now no one cares and they have to have big prize pools because that's the only way to make the big names care, and that's really sad. I feel bad for everyone that never got to experience the real Twitch before it got bought out and become the soulless husk it is today.
