Strange Country - Kacy & Clayton
Heleen and I play my favourite tunes off one of my favourite albums ever. The guitar playing across the whole album is so rhythmic and syncopated, it's like playing drums and guitar at the same time - I did my best (shoddy) approximation. Definitely go check it out if you haven't yet!

A lovely Chris Thile solo mandolin piece from his 2004 album "Deceiver". The mandolin is an Eastman 505/ N-CC, and the audio is recorded from an Ear Trumpet Edwina and a Zoom H4. My (as of last month) wife was the videographer!

Most famously played by Tony Rice but written by his good friend Norman Blake, this version is somewhere in the middle of their versions, though I did try to copy Tony's picking as close as I (a mere mortal) could. This was a great chance to test out my newest mic, the "Edwina" from @Eartrumpetlabs. I recorded into a Zoom h5 and mixed in a small amount of audio from the stereo mics.

I love this Iron & Wine cover and thought I’d give it a shot. It would have been nice to record the guitar and vocal separately but I had too many bleed/phase issues when I tried, so I stick with the tried and true zoom recorder. (Yes I know the banana plant is in dire straights, we’re working on it :p)

Hey Jim! DADGAD but tuned down a half step
Just wanted to say thanks! After a few weeks of irregular practice with this video and the song I can now manage an almost clean play-through. (Just realised I still need to learn the lick at 2:43, damn it 😂) Christian is an absolute wizard for writing this stuff. I wonder if we'll ever be able to play it as clean as he does it.

Nice! Cross picking could use a wee bit of work but it sounds great my man! Next, I dare you to try the Blu-ray version! He plays a bit faster, and he hits that open b string twice super fast and smooth... I prefer the blu ray version myself.

Thank you! It’s 80% the single ear trumpet mic, 20% audio blended in from the Zoom H4n mics which are out of frame under the guitar.
