    If you want a sharp file on your bench, buy good quality and look after it - acid sharpening is a waste of time. It eats away at the surface and you think it is 'sharper' but at best, you have cleaned away the rust, but it soon turns into a metal 'sandpaper block' that grinds away rather than acting as a sharp metal cutting tool I use brass suede leather brushes, mainly because the wires are finer and get right to the bottom of the valleys

    Using a wire wheel on a file is the dumbest thing you could ever do. If you must use a wire wheel make sure it’s solid brass (very expensive) The better way would be a 8 hour soak in vinegar and a rinse in baking soda and water than use air hose immediately to dry or use Evaporust followed by hot water and card file or plastic bristle brush and air hose to dry. This guy is just destroying the files.

      Absolute rubbish…a wire wheel works really well, the wires are no where near as hard as the wire used on a file card

    I soaked the blade of a pole saw that had become rusty and no longer cut in vinegar for three days, neutralized it with baking soda, and then applied oil to prevent rust, and it became sharp again. The minimum temperature is 15 degrees Celsius.

    I seen a video of someone using WD40 before using a wire brush, anyone ever try this method? Also, I got in the habit of using a full face shield on my bench grinder. Although he’s obviously using a wire wheel here, if you’ve ever seen a stone wheel disintegrate you’d wear one too.

    With the correct microstructure from heat treat, the v edge will last a long time. In fact I haven't seen one test that shows more edge retention with a convex edge over a v edge. Not one. If your knives have cheap steel with cheap heat treat, then sure you'll want a convex to make up for that. Or if you are wood working etc.

    Artisan edge...lmao ok. Stones can sharpen convex edges , sharpening systems sharpen convex edges "id you willing to tweak everyonce and a while" or have a adapter, sandpaper is a old school way. Stones will always give crisper edges. But oh well to each their own. Got to love the this is the way video and everything else is bad! And that folded print paper i seen done with dull knives so not really impressive."by outdoors 55"

    • @michaelidarecis3029
      @michaelidarecis3029 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and after you are done with sandpaper you will not need any other compound before our compound. The videos you see me using like 400 and a used up 600 or 1000 before going to the compound. As you can see even though the sandpaper is low tech it works magnificently. Stones just make hard angles that make the final edge very weak.

    • @michaelidarecis3029
      @michaelidarecis3029 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John this is not a diamond compound. The whole micron thing for diamond is the latest rage when in reality the diamonds scrape the metal more than our compound. After you get your knife geometry good then you will feel the strop almost tug at you as you are stropping. That is the sweet spot so to say where you know you are really making the edge super sharp.
