Bits of music production I bother to take videos of while usually making music.
Winter is Making Me Slow
Dunno. Doing all the slowest stuff these days. Oxi One sequencing LXR-02 through Hall of Fame, and Nymphes through NTS-3. Tempera is live processing the Nymphes-NTS-3 combo. Guest starring my JD-Xi on bass duties. I haven't used it in some time now. It's off frame on a shelf to my left. The first time I tried to record this, I had some weird percussion coming through even with the LXR-02 volume all the way down. Turns out, JD-Xi when played with external MIDI plays even muted parts. Oh Roland. I had to go through the drum sounds on the JD-Xi and turn them all down individually. I love you JD-Xi, but sometimes you are a pain. If only you could actually change the MIDI channels it uses.

Tempera and LXR-02. Some noise impulses on the canvas. Some through the rake filter, others not. I mess with morph on LXR-02, which is probably its most interesting feature. I need to really sit down and design some sound around it sometime.

Just a little ditty I improvised tonight. The last video I made had the rake filter on an older formant canvas, and I wanted to get a taste of that again. Made some new emitter settings and went to town for a little bit. Fun!

A slow one tonight. I spent most of my time fighting Oxi One's arranger mode, though I think I'm getting the hang of it. Oxi One sequencing LXR-02 and Nymphes through NTS-3. Me soloing a bit on Tempera with an older canvas and the newer rake filter. Some vocal formant tracks through the rake filter are super psychedelic! A new beta dropped today, but I didn't get much of a chance to try out any...
Can't See the Music for the CCs

A track I did for the Beetlecrab Audio compilation they're planning on releasing some time after the due date of December 31st. It's a doozy. First off: the tracks are percussion on track 1. Four different kits and four different beats at 89 bpm, one bar each. Track 2 is a lead melody recorded with MEGAfm. Tracks 3-4 are basslines. Track 5 is different inversion of a B minor chord. Track 6 is t...
Silly Little Nymphes Ditty
มุมมอง 30หลายเดือนก่อน
I spent most of tonight playing with the Nymphes through the NTS-3. This was the final result. I'm not entirely happy with the patch. I'm still working on the ins-and-outs of modulation on Nymphes. There's not much feedback where any modulation is coming from. It doesn't help I was using both LFOs to modulate the filter, so had trouble tweaking them to be cohesive since you can't tweak both at ...
Bonus Nymphes-NTS-3 Cadence
มุมมอง 41หลายเดือนก่อน
Quite possibly the most bang-for-your-buck duo right here. I should be in bed, but I can't stop farting around with the Nymphes. It sounds so good with some NTS-3. I've got LogueSDK installed, now to pry into some code and see what I can get up to.

Whelp! I tried to do a live version of a tune off my latest. There's a bunch of things missing, it's a bit faster, and I missed some lyrics. Still, not a bad first try, overall. Considering the song (th-cam.com/video/sy9U-JOZ3P4/w-d-xo.html) was fairly painstakingly put together in a DAW. I'm honestly surprised I managed to find the drum patch. The rest is all different patches and instruments....
Tempera Drone Rake Two-Lane Filter Routing Experiment
มุมมอง 40หลายเดือนก่อน
Another mosquito kill! It's the eleventh of November, and they're still intermittently buzzing around my room. Argh! Tracks are older ones that are just some simple waveforms morphing into each other. Square, sin, triangle, saw in each corner, I think. It's been a while. I'm routing only emitters 2-4 through the rake filter with the cutoff being modulated at the same rate that it takes two modu...
Simple Progression New Compression
มุมมอง 30หลายเดือนก่อน
I downloaded TDR Kotelnikov: a VST compressor and got it working in OBS. And then made a simple progression with LXR-02, Hydrasynth and Tempera. The change in quality from OBS' default compressor to Kotelnikov is immediately obvious. Or I'm drunk. I never put much stock in compression. There is something, though. My dynamics are more even, but there are also less of them. Modern sound!
Seven-Eight Microtonal Textural Thing

I was accused of using very harmonically rich samples! It's all sins, here. Tempera and LXR-02 with disgusting amounts of reverb I turn down halfway through. Sequenced with Oxi One and played with M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro. Sheesh, I wish the name were shorter.
Extended Fart in a Largish Room on ASM Hydrasynth

A pulse wave modulated with some noise and slow amplitude and frequency envelope ramps with some room reverb. This is about all I have the energy for tonight.

Named for the bass patch I'm using on the Hydrasynth and how I'm making the beat. LXR-02, and the aforementioned Hydrasynth sequenced by the Oxi One. Tempera played with keys. This one is a bit, uhh, crunchy? I'm messing with too much compression. Maybe I'll pick up a nice hardware compressor sometime budget permitting.

I mostly ignore my oscilloscope. It's a tiny kit thingy that was a few bucks more pre-built, so the only thing I had to do was shove it in its acrylic case and cannibalize the adapter for my old Yamaha rompler for it. I like soldering things, but I'm not the best at it, and SMD terrify me. Tempera, LXR-02, and MEGAfm are making the sounds. Perc and Tempera are sequenced with Oxi One, MEGAfm is ...
Late Night Mosquito Smashing Improv Tempera Transients
มุมมอง 44หลายเดือนก่อน
Trying out the latest beta firmware. Snappy! New grain envelope settings enable much tighter transients. This probably isn't the best canvas to be doing this with since the tracks aren't 100% consistent and there are freely moving modulators that make it so there are jumpy bits. The offshoot is that despite the sharper transients, sometimes a sound comes in louder, and sometimes it comes in qui...

insaner!
WOW Great sound , i love this !
Thanks! The tempera is a magical machine!
Which microtonal tuning?
My own, I guess. Each track of Tempera is a sin wave. I modulate the frequency such that each cell is ten Hz apart. I start at 55 Hz in the top, left cell, and end at 55+63*10= 685 Hz in the bottom right. The first four tracks are static pitches, and there's some gliss in the last four for variation. But then, I've set each to 55Hz (A0) in Tempera, and I'm playing it up and down the keyboard, so they're being scaled anyway. If I play A0, they sound at original pitch, if I play A1, they'll all be an octave up. Oh, and the emitter is being modulated up and down the canvas with a couple of free-running LFOs. Haha!
I’ve been scheming microtonal with tempera, eurorack spectral oscillators; found that instruo disting ex can deal with scala… just today reeducating myself with microtonal. Imagining sample patterns that end up making chord like overlays. Other audio sources, apps in iOS let’s say may pass microtonal audio. My interest is on overlays that get used with spoken audio
Thanks for the detail report
Oscillators for spectral in my survey; buchla tiptop 259t, make noise oscillators; cloud recorders morphagene, … etc’; koala app as a flexible sample prep tool, saving button samples to files that may be used in tempera
Do your use a frequency pedal or analysis to check your sample tuning?
your very own #9 (look it up). so insanely good. to think it would have never happened if you'd wasted that hour and a half on stupid sleep! it reminds me of how up close, speech is recognizable, but when you pull way back, like at a sports stadium, it becomes a din, where thousands of sounds merge to become a single sound and further back it blurs into soothing ambience. thanks!

Ultraviolence on Valium. Good shit.
Smeggin great innit! Thrilling ride mate.
I don't know where you're going with this but I'm coming with you.
comes hard!
Thanks!
Oh man I totally got played! I'm honored and slightly terrified at the same time, but admit I couldn't stop laughing :)
I'm... relieved. 😁 And glad you laughed! Thanks again!
Hi
poolchill!
cool
Nice one
Are you sequencing Lxr 2 with the Oxi? If so, can you do a video on how to set that up?
Not sure it needs a video. Use a multitrack sequencer on One. Set the scale to chromatic, the root note to C1, and your MIDI channel to taste. On your LXR-02, on the second page of "mix" settings for each voice there is a MIDI channel and note setting. Set each voice to the same MIDI channel as your multitrack sequencer, and the note for each of them respectively: C3-C#3-D3-D#3-E3-F3-F#3. The first seven tracks of your multitrack sequencer should now be controlling each voice of the LXR-02. You've even got the eighth track left over to control a separate monosynth or something. LXR-02 (counterintuitively?) saves the MIDI settings with the project rather than the kit, so be sure to save your project if you want the settings to stick next time you cycle the power. The upside is that you can now control any of the kits in that project with the same setup and you don't have to edit voice MIDI channel and note settings anymore. I have no idea why C1 on One = C3 on LXR-02, but I've encountered this sort of thing with other devices. I guess not everyone agrees on MIDI note naming conventions. If C1 = C3 doesn't work for you, just run a pattern and keep changing the root note of the multitrack sequencer until the LXR-02 starts playing. Maybe it does warrant a video. Haha!
@@Underwaterbob thank you for the description. It took me a while but I figured it out.
man this makes me out!
Last guy i saw was operating a fucking super computer.
Amazing 😃🔥
Thanks! And especially thanks for the instrument for making it possible.
Nice experimental ❤
Nice JAM 🔥 and subscribed 🎉
Thanks!
Awesome work!
although my gas has passed on the tempera, it's still fun to listen to your jams. thanks!
Thank you! Too bad you decided against it. It really is an amazing device. Doesn't have to be for everyone though.
Very cool jam!
Thanks!
very catchy vibe!
Thanks!
Wow, the stage is awesome Jason Tichan!
Jason Tichell Hello! My name is Bojun! I hope the video gets a lot of likes.
What stand are you using for your Tempera?
It's a POS (Point of Sales) VESA mount. Intended for a touch screen cash register. You can find them just about anywhere that sells that sort of thing online.
Pure fucking carnage mate keep it going
Haha! Thanks!
Keep it up 🙂
Will do!
Tasty to my ears. I need to be careful or I might pounce on the Tempera
Haha! It's an easy one to want. Highly recommended.
Very cool sounds!!!
Nice performance. Have you updated to 2.0 firmware yet? Getting my Tempera next month. Really excited.
I have! 2.0 is amazing. Ten modulators makes a big difference. Tempera is the most inspirational knobby box on my desk by far!
rad! was it difficult to setup the sample positions?
Not really. Just made sure each word started at 0s, 1s, etc. in each track. Each track is exactly 8s long, so each word lines up with each cell perfectly. I used a text to speech website, Audacity, and Csound, but there are any number of ways you could accomplish it.
yes.
This banjo is on fire!🔥🪕
Very cool
Massive boulder on fire 🔥🪨
Wait how did you do this? 🤔🤔
I used a different kind of synthesis for each track. Wave folding, FM, a few different physical models, subtractive, resonant filters over noise, and phase modulation. They are all mostly in tune. Emitters 2-4 are offset to center with lots of spray and have different length and density settings to provide accents to emitter 1 which is offset to center and has its X and Y sprays and density modulated so it's "breathing" in and out. This is the Jackson Pollack method I suppose. Just splatter stuff everywhere and see what works. Haha!
Nice
Bach would be proud of you. Just missing the recitativo 😅
EXCUSE ME? You have gone too far now, this is madness 😂 Very well done 👍
Haha! Thanks. You're right, though. Time to step back and make it about the sounds again. Treating the tempera like a display is fun, though!
😄😄
How do you even think of these things, that's so cool
Very cinematic, sounds great
Is ocean. Is organ. Checks out!
That's such a neat looking pattern, sounds pretty cool
This sounds really great!
Ingenious! Sounds great!
