เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 เม.ย. 2013
Hello, my name is Michael LaMattina. I am the principal percussionist with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and the director of percussion studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. These videos are a mix of performances by my students and myself. I aim to present music that is lesser known to percussionists, while still having some familiar music up as well.
If any of this music interests you, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Enjoy our performances!

Very amazing. May I ask what kind of mallets you are using in the video?
@@cinematic.sound.sculptor thank you! I’m using Dragonfly mallets on the first part and Promark aluminum mallets at reh 22. Thanks for watching!
@@MichaelLaMattinaPercussion Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for watching, and I'm sorry for your loss. It's touching that this video can give some small comfort to you in dealing with such a devastating loss......
@@MichaelLaMattinaPercussion Grazie, Michael, davvero grazie per le tue parole. Sì, un piccolo, tenero conforto... ❤💫

Rosewood Coopermans?
@@crollickforge1494 those sticks are Rohema Concert mezzos. I’m pretty sure they are a species similar to rosewood. Red Hornwood. More dense with less vibration than rosewood. Hornwood is actually a laminate from what I understand.

Thanks for posting this! What do you have on the head of your tambourine - is it moleskin for dampening, grip, or another purpose?
Thanks for watching! The moleskin is for dampening, it takes out the high pitch, residual hum that, I find, tends to be distracting. It does also give some extra comfort for the grip.
I was dozing on my lunch break and imagined this as a regimental march for the US civil war. It worked in my head.
Wirds nicht geben, vorher marschieren sie lieber wieder woanders ein.
This excerpt is new to me. Are the rolls supposed to be continuous, or should it be distinct rolls?
Thanks for watching! In the third mvt the rolls are connected, fairly standard interpretation. Some people add a metric accent at the beginning of each roll, which is also nice and makes sense. I’ve always played them connected and have never been asked by the conductor for any separation in the phrasing.
@@MichaelLaMattinaPercussion Gotcha. Thank you!
Thank you sir, I was wondering where in the world that melody was from!
Hey i really like your playing. Can you please make a video on playing the xylophone part in Arabesque by Samuel Hazo?
Thanks! I’ll have to look into this part, I’m not familiar with it. I appreciate your view and positive feedback!
Hi! Congratulations, great performance 🤘 did you make a metronome track? Or where did you get it?
Thanks for watching! There is not a click track. I set the delay to the value specified by the composer and then practiced at the indicated tempos in order for the delay effect to lock in with the rhythms he wrote. Took a lot of practice but came off pretty effectively.
Love this version, keep coming back and play a couple of times.or more. Would love to see a clip of the individual s playing their bit.👏👏🤗🏴🇺🇦
Hi!!! Is there sheet music for this and the other parts, possibly vibraphone marimba and maybe others? I really want to ask my band director if we can perform this at one of our concerts!!

what size are these cymbals? they sound amazing
Thanks! These are 17” Sabian Artisan med heavy crash cymbals.
Sounds very nice! What kind of tambourine do you play?
Thanks! This is a Stoessel tambourine. I appreciate your view!
It kind of sounds like a music box you can manually play
Wunderschön❤😍
What Glockenspiel model did you use?
I am using an Adams professional Glock
Are there sheets for this?
Yes. I got the public domain version from Hans Zimmer music off Musescore. It’s the piano arrangement. I voiced it for mallets and added some percussion to it.
Beautiful, this instrument is underrated. If you don't mind, what model is that particular Glockenspiel?
Thank you! This is an Adams professional glockenspiel. Range is F-D. Thanks for watching!
Mickey mouse got nearly out of his depth ! Fantasia ,
Hits hard 🔥
Thanks for watching!
god's music
Thank you!! And thanks for watching!
What is that nifty little foot mount thing? Did you buy that or piece it together? And is it adjustable in height? I need one!
Thanks for watching! I made that myself. Used an old snare stand base and a sofa foot for the top where I put my left foot.
Height can be adjusted, but I keep it flush with the stand collar.
Holy sh*t that was amazing
Thank you!
