Why I quit my 6 figure job as a PA in medicine
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
Why I quit my 6 figure job as a PA in medicine
Our family primary is a PA and has been for 15 yrs, while I was in chemo for stage 2 breast cancer(trip neg) Our daughter will matriculate to med school next summer. Tried to sell PA route, but she wouldn’t hear it. I ❤ PA’s!!!! They’re humble, intelligent and ‘practice’ medicine the same as MD/DO!
Play the violin
Thank you!!!
This video was posted one year ago. I am curious, where are you today? Did you go back to medicine? Are you still working in the hospitals/clinics?
Your integrity and insight are WONDERFUL! Great vid. Very inspiring.
Black WOMEN not “girls”
This is such a trend. I'm so glad I quitted nursing school. Healthcare in the US is terrible
Get to the point
I quit clinical medicine. I leveraged my medical degree and now I work in administrative roles, medical expert witness and other non-patient care pursuits. That's right. If only I could use my powers for good instead of evil.
Very good summary that can prove useful for prospects in the field. GrwT job!
Thanks for this!
Male MD student here dating and planning on marrying my female classmate next year. One small correction I offer is that most medical students are female today. Great video!
Thanks for this input! Much appreciated!
👍 yup. Primary care fqhc here - year 8! Never had a student loan a day in my life - It’s all just by choice , and yup! 👍 ❤
"Is this all the diversity you could find?" That's not how diversity is supposed to work. You can create programs to fund and educate a diverse scope of potential applicants, but you can't force them to apply to be a PA. Forcing them is what you need to do to "find diversity". Let people do what they want. Equal opportunity. Not equality of outcome which is a sick and twisted form of diversity.
Awesome information thank you!!!!!!!
I have been a FNP for 14 years and my trajectory was similar to yours-even worked at a FHQC for a few years. This is such a real and accurate overview of the current state of things!!! The stress, the trying to work in a system that drains the life out of you with less return. The turmoil because you want to help people but the system is designed that you do it at your own mental health risk…I completely relate. Good luck in your next chapter!
Really really great and honest perspective. Im an RN at an urgent care and everything is just as you described
Keep up the good work - stay the course!
This is truly amazing! In recent months, this is the 4th very touching account of a similar experience with a medical professional that I have received. Thank you very much for the courage to share your situation. What will it take for the system to stop & do an effective self analysis with a view towards fixing this situation! This is beyond broken & needs intervention to prevent a catastrophic collapse. I hope something is done real soon. Once again, thank you very much.
You are not courageous at all, not to smart , if you want to make a change you don’t quit !!! You are a fool
Thankyou for your thorough and articulate assessment of the Healthcare industry. I am a socialworker in the hospital. Check out the The Raj in Iowa. I am going to explore it
Indian medical system is good compare to this
Yep, I’m struggling with this in nursing. Glad to know I’m not alone, thank you for sharing your experience so much! 😢
The 'higher power' that you refer too has a name- Jesus
Try again … dentistry / dental hygiene good work life balance great pay! Or CAA anesthesia assistant similar to PA but in anesthesia 2-3 yrs school $200 up pay. There’s also clinical research they need medical professionals . There’s project management for healthcare projects they all 6 figures less stress physically or mentally
I feel you. I’m buying real estate as I’m in home health to stay away from the hospital. The minute I have enough I’m gone
Stress in our life can be good or bad. We need to be selective in what stress we bring in to our life (not just food). Everything adds up and can lead to a variety of diseases that hit us without any warning like cancer. We need to focus on preventative medicine and personalize it. Food and social network are underrated and not valued until we are on our death bed. An extra day of worrying about unnecessary/trivial stuff or being angry over something adds up and destroys our immune system without us knowing.
Clinical Lab Science might be up your alley. It's preventative medicine.
Thank you for sharing your story from this healthcare angle. Unfortunately that is the same story I hear from many people in different occupations. Employees are overworked, underpaid, depressed , and lost.
You have put words to everything I have been feeling as an NP. Thank you
You look great!
Thank you so much for your honesty and perspective ❤ im so burned out. You have inspired me to figure out what I am passionate about and to do that! ❤
Love your story, I think you would be really interested in naturopathic medicine too. That is what I studied🌿💚
Blessings for you wherever you end up.
GO OFF SIS!!!!!!!
Just curious...What was the interest rate on your student loans?
I never realized how lucky I was to live in Canada, where they have universal healthcare. We have very good people in the US, but they don't make it easy with our insurance.
"Universal" healthcare is not as universal or grand as you think.
"That's all the diversity they could find?" Wtf? No! Wake Forest accepts the best and brightest, not the most diverse. What a joke.
we need more cash only doctors. the government and insurance companies run the health care system
I have never understood why seeing a PA is the same price as seeing an MD.........while the PA is the lesser degree, it is the same as seeing a MD.
What's crazy though is that they bill the insurance companies more when you see an MD vs seeing a PA at many places, even though many times, we often do the exact same thing. We're in need of some serious improvement in our healthcare system.
@@krystenvazquez I had no idea, that's crazy but seems to be on par with the system's idea of right/fair and wrong.
Hi, Just wanted to know does PA grads have opportunities right after their PA school. I already worked as doctor in other country but here I’m trying to learn about PA school and the career. I am very much interested in medical oncology PA if you can provide me with insight it would be really helpful. Thank you!
There is a huge demand for PAs and most health care workers in US. You would have no problem finding a job. However, the U S health care system is in trouble. Insurance companies control a lot what care a patient receives. Health care is very expensive and those with no insurance often get no care because of money or no insurance. Things are not ideal at all but learn about things here, be realistic and listen to this lady’s experiences for guidance. Good luck
Hi! Yes, you graduate, take your boards exams and if you do it proactively, you can have a job waiting for you when you pass your boards. That was my experience. Here in the US, especially very busy cities that have too many patients and not enough providers, PAs are very autonomous and see patients and perform procedures on our own. Here in NYC, places are always hiring, especially for primary care and urgent care, just depends specialty, time of year, turnaround of the place you're applying to, etc. Hope this helps!
if u feel like going to michigan, diversehealthservices (they have a channel) is a great naturopath outfit to work at too
Wise move❤
Thank you for sharing. I am a Pre - PA student with 5+ years of healthcare experience and am always researching the good, the bad and the ugly with this and other careers. I’m wondering about pursing the PA profession via the military route and taking a role in infectious disease or surgery.
Yes I was interested in that too! The military offers a lot of benefits like loan repayment or free tuition if you go to school after serving. Specialty practice is definitely the way to go until we undergo some serious healthcare system renovations in this country! There was a former Army vet in my PA class who now works in the pediatric ER and he loves his job. Got all his tuition, books, etc for free. Pretty sure he had no regrets. All the best!
This is so REAL. Idc who crap talks this post. You're onto something here. Thank you for this 🙏
Nice video thanks for sharing
Krysten when you get a chance check out EL EVANGELIO ETERNO,,,everything you talked they been teaching for many years,,they have places where you can go and stay to learn all about natural medicine and many other things,,,check videos of Dr,,Luis Vaez..
I’m a PA student, starting second year. I’m glad I didn’t go to medical school.
As a PA I felt this whole video...Thank you SO MUCH for sharing.. I quit a month from today from my burnt out overworked position.. I'm just being right now...
Love to hear this! I have been there! There are other options out there! Will post another update soon! Sending much love and healing to you and enjoy the time off!
Oooookay, now what will the “cubana” do to carry her own weight? Be on welfare line like most of her kind do, as soon as they arrive on their rafts?
