Awesome as always!!! Michael Tillman here Christoph. I remember you telling me you had a friend by the name of Martin Tillman and as I watched the credits to Gladiator II yesterday I saw, in the credits, a Martin Tillman playing cello I believe. It brought to mind what you at told me when I introduced myself. Same Martin Tillman? Just curious. Peace to you this holiday season.
Thank you! Re Martin Tillman: yes, I think that's the person. Haven't seen him in a while, but he's a cellist and he's in film music.
Wonderful. Pure spirit. Thank you from all my heart.
You are welcome. Thank you for your encouraging comment.
I like your method. Common sense but brilliant result.
Many thanks. I find it so much fun that as organists we get to register/orchestrate ourselves.
The best esecution that I ever heard of the anthem of Germany at organ! Congratulation! Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹 🇩🇪
Grazie!
sounds like Billy Joel likes Bach... :)
Definitely!
I enjoy these videos and watching/worshipping from afar on Sunday morninngs. But, when fotunately present, nothing replaces the thrill of feeling the music's vibrations.
Agreed! Thanks for your comment.
Yay!!!! Thank you Christoph
You're welcome, Russell. Thanks for your comment.
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.
I'm happy to see that a Star Wars expert is watching and listening to this video :)
Bravo🎉
Trum 🎉 Pet! I like his “ why not “ approach. A very bold chef at the stove of sound. No timidity to be found in this mix. A true phantom of the organ. 😊
I like your term 'stove of sound'. That's really what it is.
Toll 👍
Super tolle Vorstellung, i Love it👍👍👍 ich war 1996 zu Besuch und vergesse es nie🤗
I love these strong endings with the volume cranked up! As I remember you can FEEL this music in the pews.
Greeting from korea I love Germany
Guten Abend.
I just love the organ at First Church! I'm also an organist too.
AMAZING! I didn't know you sang Christoph! Well now I do! :) Blessings to you and First Church.
Thanks Christoph! I wish you were the organist when I attended in the late 1980's. I'm on the central coast now (San Luis Obispo) and in my heart I miss First Church. To be honest attending First Church would be the only reason for me to ever return to Los Angeles. This is a very special church, the people and the organ!
Thank you! You're welcome to visit any time when logistics allow.

Yes, we're lucky in Germany that we have a lot of Italian friends and restaurators who make a great pizza the way it's supposed to be made.
Brilliant!
Thanks!
Magnificent Dr. Christoph. Brought back many memories for me of one short but wonderful week in the seminal year in South Africa's history of 1976. I spent that week in Heidelberg with the late Dr. Wolfram Kistner with whom I worked, and he took me - among other places - on a lightning visit to your home town. No space or time here to reflect any further, but to note how wonderful it was for you to bring back these life-changing memories for me through this little video and your lovely organ playing.
Thank you so much for this sharing your memories.
Very great video from Mannheim- Neuostheim and the two organs at the Pius church! I like the Widor Toccata you played during you showed the Peter Vier organ! You are a very great organist!!!
Vielen Dank!
Hey schoen aus Deiner Heimat zu hoeren. Die Hintergrundmusik ist schoen, toller Klang. Kannst Du sagen welches Stueck ab time-stamp 4:50 zu hoeren ist?
Vielen Dank. Stück @ 4:50: Praeludium in C-moll, Op. 37 No. 1 (Felix Mendelssohn).
@@christophbull Cool, thanks a lot. And is this the organ at Piuskirche? Great Principals!
@@januweness Actually, two organs at Piuskirche: a 'Turmorgel' ('tower organ') built in the Italian style by Orgelbau Stützle (2001) downstairs and another one by Orgelbau Vier (1992) upstairs in the 'Empore' (choir loft). In the first part of the video I'm playing the Stützle organ, then from 4:50 on I'm playing the Vier organ. When I have time I'll add more detailed time stamps in the description.
@@christophbull These seem both to be very good organs, in the video I saw them well and can see why the Turmorgel is called that way ;-) I really love the principals, hope you have some recordings from rehearsals or the concerts, must have been great! Thanks for sharing!
@@januweness I agree, those are nice Principals. I did indeed record several of my rehearsals and the concert. If I can find the time, it would be nice to make an album of it.
Davey Jones theme from pirates of the Caribbean
Very well. "Davy Jones plays his organ" from the second Pirates of the Carribean movie, Dead Man's Chest. And I played it to celebrate being back at 'my' organ at FCCLA where I'm organist-in-residence :)
@@christophbull I myself am an organist, I've started to play at a very young age, I'm 35 now in 2024 and I do organ tuning, fixing, building and playing, I'm a big fan of you me Bull, I love the German anthem witch you played on the fccla pipe organ, especially the second verse, I've played numerous known organs in the USA such as the tabernacle Orhan conference organ in salt Lake city, the ruffatti Orhan in the coral ridge Presbyterian church in Fort Lauderdale Florida, the midmer losh Organ in the boardwalk hall in Atlantic city, the Wananaker Orhan in macy or Macey, in Philadelphia, Saint Patrick cathedral in New York,, Washington cathedral organ, calvary church grand organ in Charlotte and many more, my dad taught me to play large organs, I'm a big fan of 5 manual organs, it's a unique talent we have, most people find the Organ boring, I find it interesting as for the many verity of sounds you can make with it, my 2 ultimate favorite USA organs is the calvary grand organ and the great organs of the fccla, keep up the great music, I'm glad I'm subscribed to your channel
@@christophbull also I only have one video of myself recorded by my friend on his cellphone of me practicing, type in on search on TH-cam, hein Madsen leipoldt, look for the video of a three manual organ, i practice the hymn once in royal David city, this was only a practice run as for i did not know this Organ, so I played to get to know the organ, the recording is recorded in the skuilkrans Dutch reformed church Val de grace in Pretoria
You make it sound as if Germany is an organ desert?
No, Germany is definitely not an organ desert :) I was just happy to play 'my' organ at FCCLA where I'm organist-in-residence, after some weeks away.
@@christophbull Fair enough. One's own bed and the own organ, hehe. PS: I looked you up. Your organ is a beast, second only to Passau! No wonder you missed it.
Excellent! Bravo!
I'm willing to guess that naked humans was an obsession of Puvis'? It's only every painting
There's no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact, it's all dark
Let's tell Roger Waters. He needs to hear that.
Finally! A true organist and artist that understands that this is a rigaudon and not a dirge! Thank you for your artistry, Christoph!
Its so beautiful😮 🇪🇸💕🇩🇪 Greetings from your european friend SPAIN
So excited you played it today in church!

Thank you for adding one!
Comme j'aime la voix de I-Chin Feinblatt ! Merci et félicitations à son mari Christoph…
Merci!
Absolutely fantastic, eclipse has always been a uniquely amazing song to me mostly because of them using the organ which has been severely neglected by much of musical world despite it having the potential to make some of the outstanding music one can listen to.Amazing performance
Thank you!
Great video 👍
Thank you!
I think it's obvious. Do battle of heroes next, please!
I absolutely loved your version of The Passacaglia! Right up there with Karl Richters BWV 582 recording. The video doesn’t do justice on how powerful this must sound in person.
Many thanks. That's a big and timely compliment as I just checked out a performance by Karl Richter yesterday :) Yeah, we're doing our best to record the organ, but there's nothing like being in the space and hearing the sound bouncing of the walls. I'll put up a performance with the complete Passacaglia and Fugue in the future.
@@christophbull absolutely! When listening around the 4 min mark into the Passacaglia, did you notice how the transition became more bright and the pedal notes were more heroic? Would you be able to do something like that?
@@Mitchellpilot909 I checked it out. I'm doing it differently, but I also like the concept of letting the various Passacaglia variations inspire registration changes.
Fun piece, and I love hearing it at this tempo!
Thank you. I appreciate the specific feedback regarding the tempo. I like to put thought and intention (fortified by prayer :) in that aspect of the performance. The criteria include: occasion, mood of the day, size and characteristics of the instrument and the space, acoustics.
Very very good🎉🎉🎉❤
Many thanks!
Incredible work !
Thank you!
J'ai toujours autant de plaisir à écouter la voix magnifique de I Chin. Bravo ! et merci…
Gänze haut ❤
RKB is my grandfather. During the Great War, he was ashore in France and went into the church in one of the towns. He asked a young lady who worked there if he could check out the organ. She let him, they fell in love, and got married. After two years in Montreal, he got the gig at Blessed Sacrament in Hollywood and was there until he died in the early 60s. My mom was born there, and we lived in the valley and visited often. He left a small organ in the house, and we grandkids would mess around on it sometimes during family gatherings. The last time I visited Blessed Sacrament was for my grandmother’s funeral in 1985. She had written a memoir on him and talked about his growing up in Ohio. She recalled that he would get grounded for going to the Black church because he preferred their music 😂.
Thanks for sharing your memories. I was organist at Blessed Sacrament Church Hollywood from 1990 to 2000 and learned Toccata Deo Gratias on the Casavant organ there, presumably where RKB wrote it. I played in several concerts dedicated to his memory at Blessed Sacrament. I met several Biggs family members, including Geraldine, John, Anne Marie, Jennifer.
@@christophbull Very cool. Anne has passed, but Gerry and John are still vibrant, as well as John’s daughters Jennifer and Adrienne. Thanks for the message. 🙏🏼
