Notes Of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in Mental Health Nursing (Psychiatric) in Bengali.
📌Obsessions: Recurrent, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that cause anxiety.
📌Compulsions: Repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed to reduce the anxiety caused by obsessions.
📌Key Symptoms:
Obsessions: Thoughts or fears, fear of contamination, fear of harming oneself or others.
Compulsions: Rituals performed to relieve anxiety, washing hands repeatedly, checking locks, counting
📌Treatment:
Gradually Decrease Ritual Time,
Identify Triggers,
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT,
Relaxation and Redirection; Deep Breathing Exercises,
Use calm and supportive communication,
Gradual Limitation of Ritualistic Behavior,
📌Medications:
SSRIs; Fluoxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine are commonly used.
TCAs; Clomipramine, can be considered in treatment-resistant cases.
📌Nursing Considerations:
Assessment: Identify severity of symptoms, frequency and duration of obsessions/compulsions.
Risk for injury due to compulsive behaviorsexcessive hand washing can cause skin damage.
Safety: Monitor for anxiety levels and impulse control; patients may be distressed by their inability to control thoughts or behaviors,

•OBSESSIONS are unwanted and intrusive thoughts, ideas, urges, or fears that repeatedly come to mind and cause anxiety.
•COMPULSIONS are repetitive and purposeless behavior that individual feels compelled to perform in response to their obsessions.
