The power of Christmas is in Christ. Christ has the power to bring peace between people, as well as peace between people and God.

While we build our lives with God, there is a lot of focus on making sure "I'm" doing what "I" need to do to be right with God. However, what cannot be lost in that process is the need to care for others. We cannot love God without loving others. As the Jews rebuilt with God, they continually faced opposition. When we build our lives with God, there will be friction with the world. Expect it.

Nehemiah was cupbearer for the king when he found out that the walls of Jerusalem were in disrepair. He prayed and asked for permission to return and rebuild the walls. In our own lives we need God to be our protection.

The Jews had been led by God out of exile as God had promised to do through the prophet Jeremiah. They were literally living in his plan. However, they began to be distracted by the people around them, ungodly people. They had to confess, repent and get back on track. In our own lives, even when walking God's path, we too get distracted and must get back on path.

As the Jews began rebuilding, opposition arose from those around them. In our lives following God, opposition will arise. We must be prepared for it. If we expect opposition, we can be better prepared for it. And as Haggai the prophet told the Israelites, God is present, even in opposition.

The foundation of a building is extremely important. If the foundation is not strong, the building will fall. We need a foundation that will hold the weight. God is that foundation.

Ezra 1-3 records the names of many who chose to return from exile to Jerusalem after the decree of Cyrus king of Persia. The first rebuilding done was of the altar on which to present offerings to the Lord.

This sermon introduced the Ezra/Nehemiah sermon series. It looked at the what led to Israel being in exile and their futue when God said, "I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you."

The family of God has characteristics. Some of them are: faith, baptism, love and bearing good fruit

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. -Revelation 7:9
