    I wonder what the mountain men that traversed this country trapping fur for a living would think of all of our new gear and how soft we have become?

    Good basic kit, add that to what you should carry in your pockets, and you should be golden for one night anyway. I pretty much wear cargo pants everywhere I go anymore.

    Dutch guy here. It is well build and handy for sorting the storage which needed per purpose. I use it as EDC for shopping or visiting the swimming pool. My next EDC will be a military hipbag for the utmost needed. (water bottle, phone, wallet, handkerchiefs to be used as toilet paper when needed, nail clippper and so on. The less you have, the less you worry. THey conduct out check bags over here. It is very strange to visit the supermarket with a 85 liter backpack.

    All good things to have. That said possessing things do not automatically give the owner skills. I can say from experience that when a fire is desperately needed is the time it will be the hardest to start. It is not enough to watch videos; you have to practice and learn from experience.

    After using the Junglas on moose , elk , deer hunts , it's now the fave for large game hunting and processing. A perfect blade for making brush shelters and processing firewood. It would be bad news as a combat knife. Thanks for your video and ideas, Mr. Cox

    • @bafumat
      @bafumat 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bighill5680 not really. You could carry three lighters for a half inch ferro rod. It's idiotic.

    • @brawndothethirstmutilator9848
      @brawndothethirstmutilator9848 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lighter has moving mechanical parts, therefore higher incidence of failure. Ferro rod’s only point of failure is user error.

    • @bafumat
      @bafumat 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brawndothethirstmutilator9848 first off, love the name. I'm feeling it. Second, this time you are technically correct and still wrong. It is correct that one on one the ferro rod does have some gains in resilience. However, that wasn't my argument. I argued that you could carry many lighters for the same weight. This destroys the gains made in resiliency with redundancy. If you carry only a large ferro rod and lose it in perhaps water or the bush, it's gone. Carry four lighters, and if one breaks or is lost.... It just doesn't matter all that much. Never mind that they float and are generally brightly colored making retrieval much more likely. The argument for the ferro rod is one fed by TH-cam bushcraft gurus with interest in their sales.

      I was wondering if him needing a wilderness survival kit wouldnt just be a purely theoretical question. When i had a weight over 150kg i could barely move (or even sleep in my bed) without being in pain. Just bending down to tie my shoes was like running 100m sprints and carrying my groceries from the car into my flat had me gasping for air for minutes. I know i wouldnt even have been able to arrive in the wilderness back then and even now with a bit over 90kg im still far from being in good shape fitness wise. But it also didnt prevent me from being a couch survivalist. ;-)

    👍👍👍 Some may see this (🙄) as another repetition of a common theme .. and it is. However, 'repetition' is good. It facilitates 'good habits' .. enabling them to become part of our 'psyche' .. done as a matter of course. Hopefully, your Post will reach more of the 'less informed' and at the very least, those of us who (should) know better but require some reminding at times. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

    I’ve been carrying the SOG Ninja for ten years now. It is my ‘get-home’ kit that I keep in my jeep at the moment. I was very impressed that a $30 pack could be so rugged. Imho it rivals Maxpedition gear. Small enough to keep handy, large enough for everything you need, and comfortable enough to wear all day. A good choice for a 72 hour kit, or get-home bag.
