Another great fishing video!!
Keep making great content buddy!!!
What Lake are you fishing
@@mikecrook8650 old west frankfort lake
Great video. You fishing on Rend.
@mikecrook8650 the one and thankfully only! Lol
How do you identify where the thermocline is???
@daviddaigrepont9485 if you have a graph you can turn up your sensitivity and you'll see a cloudy line at a constant depth. That will be it. Or you'll notice all the fish suspended at the same depth. With no graph you can jump in and see when it goes from warm to cold lol. That's the old school way.
@@gassfishing5764 guess I'll be going swimming
@daviddaigrepont9485 it's what us poor folks have to resolve to ha. But seriously it's neat to see on a graph if you ever get the chance.
Strawberry jello chichen breast with garlic powder cut into inch x inch and a half strips fished 2 feet off bottom while drifting.
@@scottmarshall1262 do they stay on the hook well?
What was the pole lengths used?
5'6 on the left and 6'6" on the right. I recommend going cheap with this strategy. I have a very expensive rod sitting at the bottom of a local lake due to negligence.
When I drift fish I use a 1/4 oz on lowest jig, a 1/16 middle, 1/32 top…chicken jigs.
Have you ever caught 3 at once?
Nice tips on the drop shot.... That's the problem with summertime fishing Those dang small crappie!! I don't know where the big boys go to hide.
@@ppdrawings tend to be in stumps and larger logs on the bottom. I just don't have the electronics on my kayak to search them out.
@@gassfishing5764 I have the livescope and still can't find them during the summer months
Thanks for this summer time tip
@@jessimoore5831 you're very welcome. Catfish video being shot this weekend. They're on a tear right now
Try a Red and White Mini Tub Jig. I soak mine in Gulp Juice. I was catching Crappy one after the other on July 3rd & 4th in Northwestern Wisconsin. Also a Beetle Spin works great. Both methods I just reel back super slow with a mild twitch. I catch every thing with this method. Best success I had was a 23” LM Bass on a Red & White mini tub jig & a 28” Pike all fishing for Crappy, Bluegill & Pumpkinseed. My favorite catch & release are the Pumpkinseed. The hit hard and make you think you got a respectable Bass.
Man I haven't used a tube jig in years! It was my first jig. Loved them! Great advice!
Great video. Why do you use a drop shot weight instead of a heavy 3rd jig? With the movement of the boat the hook would be up and somewhat weedless.
@@daviddaigrepont9485 to keep my bottom jig at least a foothold off the bottom. I only do this in summer. Crappie tend to feed upward. Thanks for checking it out.
What exact baits are you using on the curly tail and hair jig?
@dextermccray5449 bottom jigs are the curly tails. Any curly tail would probably work but these are shelton's 2" blue pearl and 2" chartreuse firecracker. The fuzzytails are also shelton's white pink and yellow/chartreuse
Enjoyed the video!👍🎣🇱🇷
@@scottmyer2881 thank you!
Where are you fishing at
Southern illinois reservoir
I couldn't figure out how you were fishing it. Were you trolling or just casting and retrieving?
I cast and retrieve by using the rod from a 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock pull, reel up the slack and repeat.
New and Old lakes are amazing place to fish. Plus it's never crowded unless there's a money tourny going on. I live next between them also. Cheers brotha'.
Just placed an order. Excited to see how well they work here in Georgia.
We sell a lot to southern Georgia. I'm told there's a lot of back waters and streams they work well in. Thank you!
Ima pull trigger here in NC as well on these too. I do a lot of stream and small reservoir fishing, and I love my panfish. Can't wait!
@@robertmantell1700 find a bobber with the same profile that I'm using. It makes a huge difference. These little bugs catch everything that swims until the water gets cold.
@@gassfishing5764 Wilco. Thank you for the tip!!
They are basically a Beetle Spin body with two rubber legs. Those two little rubber legs are easy to do yourself on any soft plastic with a sewing needle.
Keeper bass on Dolan have to be 18 inches long.
I think so. I always turn them loose. I had one over 5lbs. Incredible lake
You'll get him one day!
I said “Rum on the rocks”, not “Run on the rocks!”.
new sub good stuff
Thank you! I'll catch her one of these days!
That duck blind is epic!
The lake is littered with them
3lbs wow, I usually catch 4oz crappie at that particular lake.
Nice job
Thanks!
What lake u fishing
West frankfort city lake
Do you have a live well in the kayak?
I do but I rarely use it since it adds a lot of weight to the kayak when you factor in the water and battery needed to power it.
Lol there's always that one bone though 😅
What kind of cold front is in July?😂
Anything that drops the high temperature down 20 degrees from the previous highs is the way I look at it.
Who was hollering at the end about you catching minnows 😂.
Ha It was my aunt asking if I needed a bucket to pit them in
I always hear good things about Cedar through the grapevine, but how is it actually for bass fishing? Worth making the drive from STL? Or are some of the others lakes down there more worth checking out?
Cedar is excellent overall. Great mix of 1 and 2lbs bass to keep you interested until a 4 plus bites. Kinkaid is best when it comes to catching a better average. I did a buzzbait video on it
@@gassfishing5764 I like the way you described Cedar. Gonna check out this coming season.
𝓢𝓾𝓹𝓮𝓻 𝓬𝓾𝓽𝓮
Too cute 😊
I ain't good enough with the cordless so I still use my Ole flimsy fillet knife lol nicely done!!! I do the same thing except I ice the fillets down for an hour or so so the red firmed up and is way easier to cut off. Then you're left with some of the most flakey, tender white fillets nature can offer.
It's an art for sure! Fillet knife works just as well.
Send it!!
I am gonna try these. Bluegill here seem to just eat bread, but I mostly fish high populated areas. I plan to target some creeks and places m one else gets too this year
Remember to keep the bait moving with only quick pauses. It's all about fishing efficiently
We love white bass here in Ohio
Best eating fish bar none!
Man, I'm so ready for some warmer weather and canoe/kayak sunfish fishing! Its 43 and rainy today...probably another month until they get active here. Thanks for the video escape.
We are a couple of weeks away here. Crappie are about to get shallow! Thanks for watching!
Looks good! Cant wait to get my hand on some whites 🔥🔥
Best tasting fish I've ever had!
my man... 'you wanna fish you wanna fish I aint got time for cleaning'
Put it the wrong way 😂
She's new lol
You ever use scent lure spray?
Not too often. Bluegill aren't as particular as other species
What reel do you recommend? What are you using here?
This is just a little walmart cheapy I believe. I love anything Lews as they supported my kids when I was a fishing coach and I've never had issues with their products.
@GASSFISHING Lews is what I want to get. I'm going to order some of your blue gill baits. I just caught some gills with worms and a few bites on a bug bait similar to yours, not as good tho. Would you say that when bank fishing for gills, do you do better using braid with a leader? Im using flouro and seems to be too much stretch . Maybe bc the rod is too light for far casting to set the hook.
@kovenant7 my absolute favorite is a blood knot with your main line being braid and your leader being fluorocarbon. That's an advanced knot and if you can learn it, you'll be a mile ahead of the average fisherman. 6lbs fluorocarbon is my other choice as braid doesn't like to sink.
What pound line you using
Usually 6 but I think I had 8 on today. I catch a lot of channel cat on accident with them and I hardly ever have my drag set well enough for 6.
Great video! Where can I get those baits? Thank you
gassfishingstore.com Any questions, feel free to ask!
Toby & Gass Fishing Podcast.
Happy dog
how do you like the yak? any issues with the pedal drive? looking into getting one of these
I'd describe the hoodoo as a good entry level kayak. Not any real high end parts but reliable. Easily worth the money. I'm saving up for an old town though since this is my new love in fishing.
Another great video! Can't wait to get my hands on those jigs.
I subscribed Can't imagine catching gills consistently that size!
@@gassfishing5764 thanks for subscribing. The bite has been slow this winter but spring through fall I catch a lot of big bream. Soon as deer season ends (2/10) I’ll be hitting them hard. They’re really fun on ultralight gear using 2 lb test.
Great day of fishing! I panfish in NW FL a lot myself. I wish I could use a fish basket, but we have gators that I don't want to deal with in a kayak. I put the fish I'm going to keep in a small cooler behind the kayak seat. BTW, ordered some of your jigs today to try out down here in the FL Panhandle. Check out the bream fishing on my channel if you get a chance. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely will do! And thank you for the order!
Good day of fishing! Nice tailgate fish fry too.😁
