Pontiac 400 Engine Oil Pan Removal. What will I find?
I’m in the process of trying to rebuild this 1973 L78 400 Pontiac engine that has sat around for many years. I’m not sure if it’s rebuildable. Stay tuned for the piston and crankshaft removal. What do you think so far? Line and subscribe for updates on my build.

Pontiac 400 Engine Disassembly, Can It Be Saved?
มุมมอง 193หลายเดือนก่อน
Attempting to save a 1973 Pontiac L78 400 engine that had water leak down into the crankcase and stored down in Georgia. It’s a long shot, but I’m gonna give it a try. This is a YN code engine that was rated at 230 hp, not bad when you look at the other 400s and 455s from 1973. Stay tuned!
Monte Carlo SS and G Body Heater Core Location

I had to replace the heater core on my 1985 Monte Carlo Super Sport. The original started leaking after 39 years. After a lot of research I ended up buying one from Autozone. I determined that there was no real outstanding choice for a replacement. My copper / brass one may have been repairable at the radiator shop but I decided to get a new one. I’ll hang on to the old one just Incase this one...

1985 SS Monte Carlo Front Grill Ornament Replacement
มุมมอง 37หลายเดือนก่อน
I purchased a new front Monte Carlo ornament for my 1985 Super Sport. I had trouble figuring out how to install it with no access. I removed mounting bolts and plastic push rivets and I was still unable to remove the upper air box panel. I opted to instead squeeze my hand and arm through the opening and use a 3/8 box ended wrench to remove it. Do you know a better way? Thanks for watching.

I am replacing the window weatherstripping on my 1988 Chevy Silverado pickup truck. There are multiple ways to attach the weatherstripping to the door panels. I chose to recreate the factory staple on style. This takes great patience, you will need to scribe the backside and drill them out. The factory staples are pretty strong so it will take effort. The old weatherstripping fell apart so it c...

Smokey and the Bandit Movie Car?
มุมมอง 6355 หลายเดือนก่อน
There has been a rumor for many years that a Smokey and the Bandit movie car actually survived the crusher and was put back on the road by a young man who worked for the salvage yard. Supposedly the car was only crushed down to the hood and the representative left before it was totally crushed. Comment below if you heard this story of the surviving Bandit car.

Not that bad from this side of the lens. Have them check those lifter bores as well since they gave you trouble. Might just need a hone. But if you're considering a new rotator and pistons you're going to replace all the stuff for the better anyway. I wouldn't be concerned about the 230 horse rating, by the time you rebuild it there will be a decent upgrade to power, the block is the same as every other 400 of the era and doesn't really indicate potential as much as cam and heads, intake do. What's your plan and horsepower goals?
Hi, thanks for commenting. I would like a 300 hp bump up if possible. I'm looking more for dependability than performance. I won't be racing, just cruising around town with my grandson's mostly. I spoke to a machine shop the other day and I guess I will proceed in tearing it down and taking it over to him to check out the block. He charges $200 to clean and magnaflux the block. I'm not sure if that's the going rate or not. He is pretty reputable in the car community around here in Georgia. I will mention the the lifter bores. Thanks again!
Doesn't look too bad on film. I'm guessing the most drama is in the cylinders and rings. I'm just amazed you still have a machine shop nearby. haha If they can shake and bake the block. Or rather bake it and shot peen it, you should get a block back that looks better than new and assuming no cracks a joy to rebuild.
Mine just started thus I think I'm about to sell it
Try cleaning and lubing first. Mine seems ok for now.
Not a very good video buddy
Not exactly Visegrip Garage lol. What would make it better? I’m gonna try to make better videos in the future. This was not intended to be a how to, but more of talking about the procedures. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Did you find any money, if so it was mine
That is such a sweet find, brother. These cars will always hold a special place in my heart because of the movies. It's wild that it's not a T-top car.
Thanks it took me a long time to find a real Special Edition car. It’s rare because it has no T Tops. My grandson is eager to add hurst t tops, not sure if I will. We are getting ready to start working on it.
@wlc1980 that is awesome, brother.
Gee Whiz son, how many cars you have?
I have 11 registered vehicles not including 3 motorcycles. My wife hates it, lol! Thanks for watching.
Were you able to get the issue diagnosed?
It appears it was not thoroughly lubricated. I need to go shoot it again and see how it does. I shot a 100 rounds through it after lubricating it, and it did fine. I disassembled it and lubed it beyond what the recommendation was.
you probably could have attached that weed wacker line to the fan and use it to mow the lawn...lol
Thanks. Very helpful!
Not a very good video but you are very welcome!
Movie cars were crushed
@@garymiller9118 Is there proof that all three were completely crushed? I heard the story of the red parts car from two different sources over the years. I’m only passing on the rumors. Thanks
Yep, gm sent people down to make sure the cars were crushed because they “lent” the cars to them for the movie and therefore they would have be held liable if someone took the cars and something bad happened because gm still was the owner of the cars
You wouldn't know it's a real Y81 without a PHS because typically the Y82 and Y81 weren't always stamped on the cowl tag. By the time the "Y84" cars came out, they were sometimes stamped on the tag. Back in the day, people would put on the SE stripes and they were readily available across the parts counter and many dealers would add them as requested, or a body shop would do them upon request.
I have the PHS documents with all of my options and everything is correct. It costs around a $100 to get everything from PHS in Michigan. Thanks for watching!
@@wlc1980 Yes, I own two Trans Ams (including one my parents bought new) and I have the PHS for both of them.
I’m not familiar with the codes but if this is supposed to be a W72 equipped T/A, Pontiac would have used the 500557 casting block in 1977. They didn’t start using the XX (which was the 1971-early 1975 casting block) for the W72 until 1978. The heads would be 6X4 castings found on any Pontiac 350 from 1976-77. Not sure what cam was used (maybe the 067?) but the intake manifold was the same as any 1975-79 Pontiac V8. If it was the standard 400 it would be no different than what was used in the Grand Prix, LeMans or Bonneville from 1975-78. Definitely a cool find and worthy of saving unless it’s too far gone.
I have collected a few W72 parts. I have the 6x4 heads, a 17057266 carburetor. The block I need is a Y6. It won’t be numbers matching but it will be the correct block.
I do not believe that's correct from a numbers standpoint on the intake manifold. Some year 400 engines (1979 for sure) could use a different manifold (I have one I bought at a swap meet). They may be "interchangeable", but the stamping numbers are different.
The hood scoop indicated it came with the W72 engine of which I don’t have. I bought it with a 1973 L78 400 engine. I’m looking for a correct Y6 block. My PHS paperwork indicated it is a real special edition car with AC and the W72 option.
@@wlc1980 If everything matches on the PHS, then you know what you have and you should be good to go.
@@googleusergp I thought all Pontiac V8 (except the 301) from 75-79 used the same intake manifold. 2nd generation EGR design that had the D shaped port below the qjet secondaries. Even the W72. No?
You know that if your not smarter then the gun, you shouldn't be using it. This gun is designed to work properlly while fully assembled, NOT with the slide off. The tiogger bar is designed to disengage when the slide is off, normal in most pistols. Hard to believe anyone making a video and making comment would not know rhis ???
@@cueberr First of all I was demonstrating the trigger reset. The pistol doesn’t need to assembled to test that function. A gunsmith would not be able to diagnose a problem with the trigger reset while the gun is assembled. Second of all, if you’re implying that somehow I lack intelligence because of this demonstration, you should examine your own spelling and analyze your own intelligence. Thanks for watching anyway.
I guess you shouldn't own a gun, then, cause you sound ignorant as hell right now.
what else are you hiding down there in Georgia
Stay tuned for a new video coming out about the Bandit's Trans Am.

The gun is junk, I have that problem plus the mag constantly wants to drop out.
Ya most people love them or hate them. There is a fix for the magazine release. There is a metal mag release replacement. I bought a Glock 27 to pocket carry for now. So far my Bodyguard has done ok, but once I lose faith in a gun it’s hard to depend on it when I’m out and about.
Thanks. I got my car with a roached pigtail, broken switch, and no mount. Now I can see what I need and how it goes together as those pieces were just laying on the floor.
why there's no comment?

Ok, I figured out the problem, actually, one of the people in the comments actually hit the nail on the head. Ok, so, when I shot my gun, it would not go into battery on the next shot, so I had to shift the slide back about a centimeter, you would hear a little click making it go into battery to make the next shot. So, I tried something different, I then started taking a shot and instead of moving the slide back a little, to get it to go into battery, I decided to push the trigger foward after I took a shot, to see if it would go into battery, So I did that and I heard a little click which ment it went into battery. This lead me to finnally see, as one of the people in the coments had suggested, that you need to take a sharp point exacto blade and shave off a milimeter of polymer off the gun just in front of the trigger. So I did that and it solved my problem. Now it works flawless, and now my gun is sexy again, and now I'm happy. The End. Your welcome.
What part of the trigger are you referring too when you say the front? Any hello is appreciated thankss
Did you ever figure it out
I cleaned it and lubed it extensively. I then shot 100 rounds through it without the problem. I need to shoot another 100-200 rounds through it again when I get time to see if it totally resolved it. It’s possible that it was dry somewhere that is not commonly lubricated.
Make more videos.. good job.
Seems like trigger reset I would just change the whole trigger system
I have the same problem. Did you ever get to the bottom of it? It's so annoying and the gun is basically useless if you were put in a situation where you needed it.
I disassembled it and lubricated it thoroughly and it seems to have stopped the problem. I’m going to take it out again soon and shoot another 50 rounds through it and record any failures. I’m not sure if I resolved the problem or not. It shot 50 rounds with no failures after lubing it. If I have anymore problems I’m going to send it to Smith and Wesson. Thanks for watching.
👇 "promosm"
Well, your not supposed to take the thing apart and try to operate it as if it was together. Duh. Common sense. Just seems like operator head space is the problem, mine is fine, I've heard nothing but bad things about the trigger but people are out here playing with it as if it's a toy. Mine works just fine and I have no doubt it will continue to do so if I use it Properly. If you take it apart and repeatedly try to dry fire it 20 or 30 times (even though you said you didn't like to) like you did in the video, your obviously going to have problems and screw something up. That's like saying "I tried start my car after I've taken the head gasket and manifold off and now it doesn't work, must be the manufacturer..."
So, if you’re trigger reset is not working probably, you shouldn’t disassemble the weapon and inspect it along with a function test? Did you listen to what I was saying? Apparently not, the trigger reset was not working properly assembled or unassembled, it’s a whole lot easier to diagnose the problem unassembled, and dry firing is a part of the diagnostic process. A couple of places were deburred and extra lubricant seems to have resolved my issue. If you could diagnose that issue with the gun assembled then more power to you. The intent of this video was to discuss the problem, since I have heard of so many S&W Bodyguards having trigger issues. I welcome all comments, even the negative ones.
😮assemble the gun and show the problem ,due to make of the gun plastic trigger only use the trigger while it is fully assemble the force of hammer is going foward passing the normal possision you by pulling the trigger without the slide you are creating your own possition without the slide
You have to swap out that factory trigger immediately or the gun is basically useless. Buy the Santiago kit from Galloway.
Take an xacto and trim a tiny bit of the plastic in front of the trigger. The frame is preventing the trigger from completely resetting. I bet if you take the trigger and press it forward, it will reset. By doing this, you will see where the material needs to be removed
Thanks for that information
Yes, this solved my problem, thx.
I just got mine out today and it is doing the exact same thing. I guess sending it off to S&w for service is the best option? Did you ever figure out a solution or reason? Thank you for the video.
I lubed it good and shot 30 rounds with out the trigger problem. I contacted Smith @Wesson and told them I’m going to shoot one hundred rounds through it and record any and all problems, jams, misfires, trigger not resetting and then send it in. I don’t think lubrication was the problem but I’ll find out soon.
I got some problems
Dashboard all cracked to hell with only 65k miles??…lol….that’s 165,000 miles.
Cracked dash has to do with the sun beating down on it lmao
The trigger on mine is long and hard to pull and alot of the time I will shoot left and low because of the long/hard pull of the trigger
Yes they are hard to pull, I do the same thing.
That's just the nature of a double action trigger, shoot a few revolvers and you'll get used to it.
Thanks for the video. I'm going to give it a go. If I can't make it happen then I'll see about pulling the windshield, replacing the speakers and then having a new windshield installed.
I’ll be the first to admit this is a bad video, I was trying to find a how to video to make sure I was doing the job right, but I couldn’t find one. I will buy a good HD camera and figure out how to do a better job filming and editing on future videos.
Sorry brother, I have all the annual emissions tests to document the mileage, still has the original radiator hoses. Keep in mind it’s 38 years old, all in the Georgia summer sun.
Pretty damn smart
Great video & message. Except for the joining the NRA part. They’re total money grubbing traitors at this point. They weren’t much better six years ago I feel either. I hope your Bodyguard pistol has held up well. Both my Bodyguard pistols have had a shit ton of cycling issues. I’d throw them away if that was legal!
