It would be practical if not some blocked wealth. Moreover, through the story you have to enter again some places and it ruin the experience. In Valhalla it is better to follow the plot at the first and then do side stuff.
I celebrate the freedom of choice in a video game than trying out an uninteresting story. I finished the prologue, the story was already started to become forgettable. So I decided to have fun with the game. Each section of Valhalla is more of the same, nothing new, so you are not robbing yourself out of some interesting locations when you visit any location before progressing the main quest. Out of few side quests, I don't remember anything about the main quest, even though I did them all at once after I finished everything in the game. Mind can only wonder, had I followed the route the game intended me to take, I would have fallen asleep long beforehand. Its an Ubisoft game, spend too much time in the game, both gameplay and the story will become a slope. It all comes down to which slope I rather get involved, the game was the decision winner for me.
