I love the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and the idea of creating tension. This occurs when people take stances which challenge the status quo in conversations, writing, protesting, or sermons. The idea of creating tensions also deserves much more thought. The idea of tension is to cause a person or group of people to reexamine their ideas. People in a thoughtful and curious situation do this regularly. So good to be thoughtful and curious. Angry or overly aggressive people will sometimes double down and oppose the new idea, that is until they reach a crisis and are forced to reexamine their thoughts. A third way is to say something funny that allows a person to rethink their stance. Saying something funny doesn't create tension, but it does at times challenge the listener and cause people to rethink their ideas on an issue. I'll keep thinking and post some thoughts about this in the next few days at criticalliteracies.net
Love it! This is such a clear and important message for today. Tension, wisdom, and sacrifice are all things we will wrestle with in our Christian journey. We can and must change the world through tension, wisdom, and sacrifice. Tension and sacrifice are often considered to be negative things in our lives, but they are good things when the opportunity present themselves.
Regarding the heritage: Are you Russian or Ukrainian Mennonites? The current or recent eastern Ukraine was Russian until 1922.
Interesting carpool method!
Oh Bill, thank you so much for this word! A good word, indeed!
There is a presence of conservative American Mennonites/Beachy Amish in Ukraine. See the Conservative Mennonite Church Directory printed by Christian Light Publication. They are highly involved in humanitarian aid there.
..... and also in Moldova!
I needed this sermon.
