After more than 15 years of grafting and planting mango trees in Cayman, I have concluded that the VERY best way to plant them is to start with a seed where you want the tree and then graft onto the seedling when its diameter matches the scion (branch tip) that you want to convert the tree to. The point is that mangoes send down a vertical tap root much deeper than the lateral roots that stay nearer to the surface. That tap root gets wound up in a pot, stunting its growth, possibly eventually killing the tree when you plant it as shown in this video without extricating and redirecting it down from the root ball. If planting a grafted tree from a pot, the younger the better to permit finding and redirecting the tap root while planting. A big, old potted tree is least desirable and will need more effort to redirect the tap root during planting. If much damage happens to the roots you should trim the canopy to match the root loss. Start from a seed if you are young enough to wait 5-6 years for fruit. It'll grow fast, healthy and be the most wind resistant when the big storms blow through! On that note, never give up on a downed tree. Resurrect it ASAP, trimming back the canopy to match the root damage (or more... it'll grow back fast) and save the tree! I cry inside every time I see people remove downed trees after hurricanes. Even if you cut it back to a stump and rebury the roots, it'll grow back.

The solution is bury Valencia seed in the ground then graft (call ground graft) .put two or more seed in the same hole to ensure the success.the ground graft tree have much deeper root, after the tree established you will not need water it anymore.good luck
