Supreme Hobbies A330 MRTT UNBOXING - RCAirliners.com
In this video, we unbox the Supreme Hobbies Airbus A330 MRTT with 50mm EDFs and 4S power. This tanker/transport is a heavy jet with high-bypass fans and wing-mounted drogues... plus a NATO boom.
Just like the full-size heavy transport, it has slotted Fowler flaps. Feel free to send a message or ask a question. This PNP tanker was the last PNP in U.S. stock. Shipped to OKC from Fort Worth.
More detail is offered in our A340 videos on Weekend Oklahoma.

Supreme Hobbies Airbus A330 A340 ESC cooling cover modification
มุมมอง 6577 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, we modify the ESC cooling bay panel to repair a known defect from the factory using only foam filler, X-Acto & tape. We cut and form our own NACA inlet so the ESCs get more cooling airflow - as the designers originally intended. This mod is for ALL THREE models of Supreme Hobbies' Super Scale airliners (including the A330 MRTT military version). In all known cases, these come wit...

    I use the blue lock tight for the screws and the handles so they won’t have a chance to vibrate loose and I also use a rubber mallet to set the Chuck in

  • @bryankreinhart
    @bryankreinhart 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    First, I'd suggest using a block of wood on the chuck and setting it in with a mallet or hammer. The way you did it can cause undue stress on the table and possibly bending it. Also, I recommend using a square to align the table with the chuck and bit (you can find many videos on this here on YT). And remember, don't put your weight into drilling as that can heat up your bit dulling it. Let the bit do the work and use oil on appropriate materials.

    So glad I watched your video. My press will be delivered in a couple of days. It has been years since I had one. I've been looking at videos of this model and I have been HORRIFIED to see "assemblers" taking a hammer to the chuck, and bashing not only the chuck but the entire machine! I had forgotten the technique of simply using the machine itself to gently and sanely press the chuck into place. I have no idea what the instruction is in Wen's included documentation. If it says "use a block of wood then hit it with a hammer" I will be shocked. Your video was the best of the bunch, somehow... more comfortable. :-) 3 HOURS LATER: I downloaded Wen's product manual. GAWD SAVE US! They ARE instructing new owners to: "Hit it with a hammer".... NOT EXACTLY... They say "TAP it ONCE" (I can see that as reasonable but I'll "press" mine). More than one of the TH-cam reviewers was beating the living hell out of it. Half a dozen serious blows, jarring the crap out of the head. Yikes.

    I always heard that in order to properly assemble a drill, you need to use some rubbing alcohol or equivalent to remove all oil from the spindle shaft and the chuck prior to installing the chuck. Failure to do so could cause the chuck to loosen and fall off or spin while using.

      Thanks, Frank. I worked in Shell stations as a kid-as a grease monkey changing oil, rotating tires, etc. My bosses threatened to fire me if I didn't stop washing my hands so often. They got upset about the cost of that gritty hand cleaner and towels. I changed oil, but I tried to stay as clean as a sushi chef. They never fired me though, after Clint Eastwood pulled in and asked for a "fill 'er up with Super Shell." I didn't recognize him until he handed down his Shell card from his Winnebago and I read the name. We were in San Jose, CA and he lived about 50 miles away in Monterey/Carmel. So I went on to fly jets for a living but I still wash my hands multiple times a day. Old habit are hard to break. All the best, Frank -Texas Tom (dotcom)

      Sure, Benj... here's the main link: www.rc-castle.com The four-engine A340 has been out of stock, so you may wish to consider the A330 twin-engine military tanker. Price was $299 USD plus shipping for the A330. I recommend ONLY the PNP version because it has all the parts except the radio receiver & gyro. I am more disappointed with TH-cam and their bait-and-switch snafu in January. We may not post our build videos because they went back on their word for monetizing our channel. Therefore, we can simply keep the Airbus A340-600 build videos private and unpublished. If we can't trust TH-cam on their word, why bother? We have several unpublished RC Airliner videos ready to upload. No $.

    Hey, Brian - I received my balance charger today and I have a question or two. I know it's cold in IA but that seems not to stop you guys. So, my charger is a version of your suggestion (C3). Spent $29.99 all-in for this C3 sold by the mfr. with AC cord included: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D4D06AS/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - free shipping took 2 days. My question is about max 6.0A charge rate. I am expecting there's not a rush in charging LiPo batteries, as in rate vs. capacity not being enough. I bought this 6S for my 90mm EDF-powered project jet and I've seen that online recommendations are for 8.0A rate for an 8,000mAh capacity. I went for this battery because I expect to be able to fly at 50% or so in level clean. I went with it because it was $47-ish and it included "piggyback-able" FREE SHIPPING by FEDEX PRIORITY INTERNATIONAL (DANGEROUS GOODS)... which got here by 10:30a... for free! So I added a few other items to the box that were not designated dangerous goods... I couldn't beat it for free and by mid-morning. hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-8000mah-1c-lipo-battery-xt90.html?___store=en_us Q1: Is there a slow-charge issue I'm maybe not aware of??? I don't think there is, but I have to ask. I got an XT90 charging cable from BG for a couple bucks. Q2: Now that I have a charger that works with 4S and 6S LiPo batteries, should I take the new/unopened batteries out of their box and put a half-charge on each of them? Or some other charge level? Or something else? Thanks, buddy!

      Thanks. I'm working on the FX-79 today, and hoping my XT90-to-XT60 adapters arrive soon. I have bulk 60s but my batteries have XT90 from mfg. and I'm considering trying to standardize my big ships with 90s. Any thoughts on that? I went for that free shipping deal on the 8000mAh 6S 25C from HK. I am hoping that using lower-amp-draw EDFs will allow me to use the 25C battery without puffing, unless I choose to run it at high power for extended periods... which I don't. Highest draw on T/O, then G/A (less duration 'cause it's already flying, but flying very dirty with landing flaps & gear down), then next-highest draw is when established on final when fully configured for landing. I may have to use half-flap config if too many amps are required with 100% flaps. The battery is quite heavy at 1132g - so I hope it works. I'd hate to have to use TWO of 'em to prevent puffing... the batteries would outweigh the airframe and the lifting surfaces (wing, fuse, canard) would need lots more smash to get the beast in the air and keep it in the air. I know I'll have a bunch of lightening to do as it gets closer to going beyond taxi test. I'm using a doubled carbon spar (round, inner/outer overlapping) to get enough spar length using max. 48" carbon tube lengths. I love this drill press already. Now, I need to get used to cutting with it using Forstner bits for gear wells! Hope all is well with you... more updates soon. Any thoughts on 25C puffing? Out.

      Regarding XT90's...I use XT60 for most of my "normal packs", then larger bullet connectors for the ONE lipo I've ever made that's larger than 4S (5S 5000mah). XT60's are "...perfect for applications up to and beyond 65A constant." - note the "constant" according to hobbyking's own web site...and I've seen tests where there's a LOT more current passing through them...like for instance when I'm soldering the HUGE wired into the connectors, there's a LOT more heat than generated by 65 amps at 12VDC. My bottom line, I think XT90's are largely overkill, but if you're concerned, go with the safer of the choices. I also think you're badly overthinking things. I realize this is part of your personality, and it's certainly not bad to analyze things...measure twice, cut once, but it's not, measure 43 times, cut never (LOL)...there is a point where action will be the best course, rather than more planning. I think you're concerned that your efforts are gonna end up in a heap of junk on the pavement somewhere. I must warn you, even if you do it 100% right, there's a real possibility this will happen, in-spite of your calculations and preparations. You should just work the project in steps. Start with getting the plane in the air. If it flies like crap, you can abandon or change your plans. Once she's flying good, then you can add features. I'm concerned that you're dumping a lot of eggs into one basket, and I don't want to see you being discouraged by a huge, all of a sudden, sucker punch when all goes sideways...but this is just what I'm gleaning from your comments...I could totally be misreading the situation :) It is VERY easy to make a plane too heavy to fly well, and I think you're heading that direction FAST. Weight is the enemy! Even if you really want the feature. So what if you puff a pack? Better a puffed pack, then a pack left in the shipping box :) Good luck! You can do it!!!

      You nailed it. A perfect diagnosis! I am building a simple EDF set today with two 64mm 5-blades that pull 27A or 280W continuous. I may video it, because I'm probably going to use this method for propelling my Tanker 10 project... only that will use 4S voltage with 64mm 6-blade EDFs. I did not elect to buy the 12-blade 64mm EDFs, so have YOU ever compared an EDF unit w/ 12 blades vs. a 5- or 6-blade fan of the same diameter(64 or 70)? Added current draw with more blades? Greater thrust output vs. less blades? More heat from higher wattage? I'm working on reducing the measuring and increasing the cutting! My modular powerplant concept may let me "mix 'n' match" aero/fuse projects with varied 64mm EDF sets. I have 3S & 4S plus heat sinks on the ESCs already. I'm hoping to come up with an ESC cooling sys. that's somewhat universal-ish for my 64mm modular-powerplant RC projects. I want to get some flaps installed on wings, but I'm eager to drill 45mm wheel wells with new drill press. Hope you're staying warm. It's been 13º - 32ºF here this weekend. Brrr.

Where in the world are you, Mike? We have BOTH the PNP and the kit, so we can compare the two if needed. Next, let us know if you've ever built an RC plane before. Do you have RC or other flying experience? If so, summarize so I know your capacity for aero terminology and RC jargon. Because you are a fluent English writer, it may be less difficult to communicate. Next, relax and know you'll get some help w/ your A330. You're it. One thought...at 7:00 or so you're talking about the inboard "Flaps". I KNOW you already know this, and wonder if this was an unusual mis-speak, so please understand, I don't mean to beat you up in any way...but want to help you avoid making a fatal mistake... When flying a "wing", inboard flaps would need to be used in conjunction with outboard flapperons/spoilerons, thus making defacto CROW, unless you have plans to incorporate kanards or simultaneously deployed leading edge [kruger/droop] flaps. As you DID mention, these "inboard flaps" would be used as elevons - EXACTLY...that's really the only option without some effort. That all being said, I would totally go for CROW. I'd set each of the FOUR servos to their own channels. I'd assign the ailerons to "flapperons" and the inboard flaps as dual flaps. Then I'd use mix for the inboard flaps to deploy with the ailerons only when CROW was NOT in force. This can all be done, and it'd be really cool, especially with large, deep control surfaces like this plane has. I hope this message finds you before you've dug in too far, one way or the other, so as the help avoid crisis. P.S. If you deploy inboard flaps with no way of keeping them from acting as a downward elevator input, you'd be picking up some pieces of plane El-Quicko :) LOL

    • @WeekendOklahoma
      @WeekendOklahoma 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I learned something new again! As a CFIG with 10,000 hrs.+ of flying experience, I was dumbfounded by your term "CROW." In just seconds, Mr. Google clarified why: it's for RC only! I love learning, if you didn't notice. You have a reply in your inbox, meant for other-than-TH-cam viewing. You really are reading my mind, as canards are expected to be used on Tanker 10 for long stability and for pitch control at liftoff and for landing flare as the speed bleeds off rapidly with those large inboard TE flaps extended for landing. I have no experience with building LE slats, so I thought I could make simple inboard Kreuger flaps like we used on the B-727 days of haulin' cargo in the dark in brown-tails at KSDF/Louisville Standiford. I definitely agree with your assessment and can assure you I don't have the know-how to setup a flaperon mix that acts like speedbrakes. In full-scale gliders there was no crow in any of our sailplanes like the ASK-21, Grob 103, Blanik or SGS 2-32 3-place gliders. HOWEVER, the 2-32 does have "terminal velocity" spoilers - they open backwards and are large enough to prevent exceeding Vne... even a pitch attitude of 90º down with a parachute fastened to my torso! We had a ride that tourists could enjoy, with parachute rental included. I've sent you a pic of my first minor mod to the center-wing section of the Buffalo, and a Buffalo it is no more. It's like twin children, ready to grow and spread its wings. Of course, I could always screw up and extend the TE flaps without adequate counter-forces... and watch that baby pitch to 90º down! Crash bang over done. I won't do that. Once ready for crow hops, I'll graduate flap extension from 1º-ish to 2º to 5º, etc. before ever deploying them up in the air. My canards are waiting in their clear plastic bin, with sizable ailerons that will be used symmetrically as elevators - I have two canard/wing sets, one a S&D discounted set from F-35 kits. I actually want to figure out a way to make the flight controls move UP 100% throw WHEN the pitch stick is moved FULL FORWARD on landing rollout; it shouldn't be too difficult, but that's a bit down the road. First, I need the wing back together with gear that swings properly and a gyro stabilizer/wing-leveler set for elevons. Twin 64mm EDFs will propel it, until it eventually gets too heavy for only 2Kg of thrust from those low-power fans.

    I got your "care package" today!!! That was such a nice gesture! You really went out of your way to do that nice deed, and it was very well received! I think Dave (the owner at Hobby Town who I go and fly with several times a month, when he has time) was about as surprised as I was! P.S. I really liked your business card too. I might need to come up with a TH-cam business card, to supplement my day job business cars :)

      Glad you received that gift timely, as it was meant for Christmas. I'll let Dave & Mary know I appreciate their interest and effort. We use Food Writer biz cards for my "Shrimp Tourism" efforts and the Mustang is the card my wife and I use for casual contacts and muscle car events. The local chamber's president called me on Friday and informed me that the City is onboard for my proposed Muscle Car Week - I have a 10-year history on the Island, so that helps. They even extended an invite to the Chief of Police and the Chief is now planning to lead our muscle car parade with his classic '67 Camaro convertible! Please don't feel obliged to reply now... please enjoy Christmas with your family; you're a lucky guy, Brian.

      Thanks, Brian. I am working on a way to hold my transmitter and still manipulate the right stick, so I know there's work ahead. Your techniques are studied by this RC student pilot; I appreciate what you post here for all of us who subscribe to your channel. Mahalo, brah... mahalo. Merry Christmas again!

      It's my pleasure! I like to teach, and you obviously like to learn!!! Flying RC has become quite the addiction for me. IF I had more money, I'd be flying full scale too ;) Maybe some day, right?!?!?

    Looks nice!!! Those ESC's will get pretty hot still, so the remedy for this is of course.... ....GO FAST :) LOL Yet that thing out and flying! It's gonna die of old age if you don't fly it!!! :)

      Will do, Brian. I have been working on the under-wing box for the FX-79 while I am (effectively) grounded. This new project will let me get some real hands-on construction done with foam... before I try to tackle the fuselage of Project Molokai - that I can't afford to screw up. With the new FX-79 project (named Tanker 10), I have the ability to screw it up and not destroy the entire aircraft or an expensive fuselage in the process. The bladder tanks are all self-leveling with Tanker 10 and 6 isolation check valves prevent reverse flow between bladder cells. For venting, the fuel tanks use two common vents which have a crossover tube if one check valve ever fails to vent. Each vent line check valve cracks open at 0.5-1.5 PSIG. My flow valves require 1.25 PSIG before they crack open and allow partial flow - THEY'RE fully open at 2.25 PSIG. I will post progress photos using my Snoop Works website (Rockwell had Skunk Works and Boeing has Phantom Works... so I thought it would be fun if I had Snoop Works for my multi-engine recon hobby jets). I'll plan to update the site at www.SnoopWorks.com and I'll reply with a link for you after I get an update posted for the Tanker 10 BWB air refueling tanker/transport - with photos, of course. If we don't happen to post/reply before then, Merry Christmas to you and your family, Brian!

      COOL! So, just to be totally clear, you're building a multi fuel tank jet powered plane right now??? Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!

      EDF to start, then IF the A/R boom will lower to 80º (or low enough) to have a minimal bow wave effect on the tanker, THEN foam would get a few thin coats of fiberglass and some of the internal foam would be carved out. I cannot fund turbines, nor do they comply with all AMA policies and insurance coverage. These first A/R tanks are from black box wine bladders (approx. 3 liters ea.) and I'm only using black box bladders equipped with a "twist knob" and NOT a spring-loaded, hand-held outlet valve. Initially, it's gonna contain only colored water at 8.34 lb./gal. density, while turbine fuel would be 6.4-6.6 lb./gal. if running jets. If I can make it fly first with water loads, the lower fuel weight vs. water would help. I just need a way to "practice" with foam "fuselage building" without risking what little I can afford to rebuild if it doesn't fly.

      That sounds heavy...

    • @WeekendOklahoma
      @WeekendOklahoma 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is... "quite heavy, dude." Battery B is above 30,000 ft. right now, somewhere over the Pacific. XT90 and 8000mAh of 6S power for a bank of 3 LiPo batteries in parallel to allow for extended "on-station" time. The new legs are also in the box, which arrives mañana en la meñana. You didn't know I'm so worldly, eh? Yes, I speak a little Canadian too... due mostly to the McKenzie Brothers (Bob & Doug). I'm currently studying Chenglish using RC websites and one-sheet assembly manuals. I tried to learn the English language as a kid, but they hide that information in books... and I seemingly never opened those books as a kid. Snoop Works has a relatively young Page on Facebook - facebook.com/SnoopWorks I'll be posting some pics as the build progresses. I still need Battery C (#3 of 3 HD-cameras/power batteries). Dual 8A UBECs (one supplies 4.8-6V for landing gear/flight control servos and one supplies 12V for industrial-grade valves and other common 12V parts) will power the DC solenoid valve(s) - no pumps; airspeed will pressurize the "fuel" tanks to prevent manifold cavitation during fuel offloading. Wire is here already - 10AWG silicone-insulated braided copper by ACER Racing, but I bought only 10 ft. of Red/Blk. I hope to be able to build Project Molokai as the first A/R receiver, but I don't expect the speeds to be compatible enough between Tanker 10 and the receiver, which must creep closer using a FPV nose cam. I have looked at this air refueling goal for a long time, and have determined that the A/R operations will need to be done in a continuous shallow turn (5-10º max bank), but that will add a bit to the power requirement as it has to be done entirely within LOS from the takeoff point in order to be legal as a hobby pilot. Of course, two pilots will be needed, plus a spotter while the receiver pilot is using FPV to advance forward from the pre-contact position to the contact position. All this at 300' AGL will also be challenging, but that's pipe-dreaming until I get Tanker 10 flying stably and safely. Tanker 10 will only load 1 bladder tank partially to start, then (if it flows water out the boom) up the fuel loads from there.
