It’s the downforce there’s two wings on the sides of the cars made out of Lexan that fold down when you’re going. If you try to pass somebody when they’re folded down, you’ll get knocked off the track.

Do the cars get grip from the rail or is it all about downforce what makes that crazy cornering speed possible? What is the max speed?

What's the length of the track. There was one in Indianapolis that was 265 ft.

Hi you guy's was just doing some Utube vid surfing & came across your post so I'm having a look, I was born in Hastings NZ and used to bike into town in the 70's with my small suitcase that had 2 or 3 home made cars in it with other stuff to the 8 lane track up stairs from the towns main st, no violence in the community back then 😁 and it's still illegal to carry weapons (unloaded even) in public here. 🙂

I used to do this at Moro Craft in Edmonton AB in the late 60s, 6 lanes, 210'. It was pretty sciency even then with foam tires and sticky stuff...

I've recently retired and have gone back to one of my childhood hobbies. I have been bitten hard by the slotcar bug. I have started competing in super B, GT and drag racing. However said I'd be bored when I retired is full of crapola. I love all of my many hobbies and one woman.

Is this considered a "Paper Clip" or "Hll Climb". There was a track similar in Bedford Ohio a while back I raced on and LOVED the layout.

I'm trying to do the mental maths back to when I first started slot racing! My brain hurts! Lemme see, got my first Scalextric when I was 12. So that's, hmm, a certain number minus 12, which is, dang it, still a pretty big number. 1965 😁 Then I discovered and joined the local slot racing club, with their diy 8 lane plywood track just like this one. Magnets on chassis were not yet a thing, but foam rear tires and solid plastic fronts were. We has a straight similar-ish in length to the one in the vid. Certain substances were banned for adding stickyness to the tires, Wintergreen was it? I don't recall what we did use. At the end of our straight we had an approx 40 degree banked curve, where the inner lane turned the almost 180 degrees in less than 18", rising several inches at the same time. The track levelled up over the next 8ft from the straight's 18" off the floor to 3ft, then a 45deg turn and up another foot to a 120 curve with a slight bank. Then down a bit to level out for the bridge over the straight. A 90-ish degree turn to run opposite direction to the straight for a little bit, then 45deg away and up a little to another 120-ish, then descending to the penultimate 45 flat curve. And then last corner before the straight was something like 100 0r 120 deg down to the straight and the timing sections once again zipping past the race controller position about 18" off the floor. (I just added/subtracted all my turns and ended up going the wrong direction. But it was fun!) Using a stopwatch and a shout of "Go", we estimated that the quickest 1/32 scale cars were hitting about 40 mph average on the straight from stationary. These were slot racers, with metal chassis and vac formed bodies, not actual scale stuff. We even ran a couple of 24 hour Le Mans type races over the years I was there. Fun fun fun!!!!!!!!!!! 😁😎

Eah gets lame quick when cars are constantly coming out of their slot and the race is screwed up. Would think they would have done a fix by now to keep the cars in their slot

That is nothing like the slot cars we had in the 60's. We could at least see ours going around the track.

We had a local slot track for a bit. It was a original Blue King track. Held the track record for a bit in Cobalt Unlimited. I still have my custom relay loaded hot shot controller, with 3 way toggle with low, medium and Kill settings. I'm sure my leftover super softs are super goopy/garbagy now. Might have to toss in the pit box next trip to Bakersfield, and make a stop in Modesto.

Okay, it's more fun than football. But I think in the long term they will be better off training their anus-squeezing skills, instead of just squeezing their index- and middle fingers!...

This was great to watch! Have a couple quick questions, is the race based on time or laps? And sometimes the cars come off the track and they keep racing, and sometimes the whole field stops, why is that?
