You cant work remotely for a US employer unless they set up a French enterprise to pay your French taxes and cotisations. You also can’t be self employed in France if only working for a single client as they would be disguised employment.

I’m in the US and am looking forward to the US version, but enjoy this practical overview and insight into the UK perspective. I am not one of those wealthy Americans, but dream of finding one of those bargain properties in southwest france, But will likely need a long term rental. In this one you talked about potential issues with updating the fosse and roofs. If one were to find a property without those issues, but may need to have the electrics and internal plumbing updated, could you give a ballpark estimate of cost? Maybe that’s a whole other series that would be interesting regardless of where one emigrates from. What I’ve not seen at all in my research is real before and after data of buying a small bargain house (70-100 sq m) that was habitable but needed updating and the purchase price plus the costs of updating. What is the return on investment when you update? I also understand that many if not most properties whether buying or renting, especially in the lower price points, do not come with fitted kitchens. I’d love to know how that works, price ranges, lead times, things to consider…oh! And what’s up with the hanging water cylinders/tanks? Are on demand water heating systems available in France? I have so many questions 😂. Anyway thanks again for the videos!

A dilapidated building collapsed a few years ago near Marseille; since then, they have passed a law making it compulsory to "update" all structural defects in buildings. It is an expert in charge of evaluating the property inside, called "energy performance diagnosis" (diagnostic de performance énergétique; DPE), which provides information on a house's/apartment's energy and climate performance. The most important thing is to update all the structural defects on the buildings and/or the roof he finds because this second part is mandatory. This is why it is best to buy a property that is already "updated" and to look for a house through a real estate agency in France. DPE has 7 classes: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G; for information, F and G are considered "thermic colanders".

To be fair Strasbourg and the Alsace was historically German culturally, linguistically, and ethnically. It only became part of France in 1681, and then reverted back to Germany in 1871 until 1918. So claiming the Christmas markets began in France is pretty misleading. As I am guessing at the time of the first Christmas markets the town was inhabited by ethnic Germans, that spoke a German dialect, and were part of The Holy Roman Empire. Nowadays, it is in France, but that is a more recent phenomena.

Our Christmas here in Northern Canada includes the Christmas Eve dinner with family and Friends, also a candle lit church service where we all sing traditional hymns to Praise God for the gift of Jesus our Lord and Savior ! It is such a special day and evening. We would never give glory to 'santa" or believe in anyone or anything that knows our thoughts and our hearts. Truly we all know only God can know those things, which is precisely why we all need a Savior! Praise the Lord for JESUS❤🙏🏻

As a Mexican, we also do the shoe thing, but they are for the day of the 3 Kings on Jan 6. Sometimes the shoes are by the door, sometimes under the tree (we don't remove the tree until after Jan 6) and presents are left by the shoes for the children. We also have the Rosca with baby Jesus's inside. And on Feb 2 (Candelaria), we have a tamale party thrown by the 1st person who got the baby Jesus in their cake from Jan 6.

Very nice video! How about New Years ? Do French and Europeans celebrate like Americans?
