HISTORY OF HOW TO COLLECT PUNK VINYL RECORDS 1976-2024
This video is a historical look at collecting punk vinyl records over the years. Primarily focused on showing the magazines, books, fanzines and resources that were used to find punk records in the pre-discogs world, all the way up to print media that can still be used today to learn what is out there and/or coming out.
UGH - I have to confess I forgot one of my favorite books from 2001 called Up Yours! : A Guide to Uk Punk, New Wave and Early Post Punk by Vernon Joynson - You can still pick this book up fairly easily.

NO ALTERNATIVE / DOA (1981) A FILM BY KARL HINZ
มุมมอง 7107 หลายเดือนก่อน
The film you are about to see is one of my early works from San Francisco in 1981. It features live performances by two of my favorite bands: NO ALTERNATIVE (at the Fab Mab) and DOA (at the Old Waldorf). The film is raw and unedited including broken guitar strings, a falling bass player (who continues to play prone), missing set lists, fans blocking the camera and other so-called flaws. In real...

PIG CROSSING (w/ Top Jimmy and Jennifer Blowdryer) (1981, Karl Hinz Film)
มุมมอง 568ปีที่แล้ว
In the early 1980's Gwyn Waters, Jennifer Blowdryer and I were in Los Angeles shooting my film SUICIDE LINE. While there I was lucky enough to be able to shoot some impromptu footage of Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs jamming. The brilliant and always imaginative Jennifer Blowdryer came up with the idea of a Performance Art Parody Interview with some actual pigs to add contrast. I hope you all enjo...

WEIRDOS - NEUTRON BOMB LIVE AT MASQUE FEB 11, 1978
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
This clip is taken directly from the master tape of a TV show called AT NIGHT. This represents the only color footage shot at the legendary LA club the Masque. This was after it had been closed but the loophole was that this show was put on as a special event for the filming of the show. In this clip you can see everyone from Bobby Pyn (aka Darby Crash) helping Dix w/ his guitar strap to Alice ...

มุมมอง 18Kปีที่แล้ว
This is a new 4K restoration of the classic PiL music video for Death Disco (aka Swan Lake). This is being presented solely as was originally intended as promotion for the band and song. There are too many inferior versions online. This was restored from original film elements by the PMRC.
GINGER COYOTE TALKS VKTMS & VKTMS PERFORM 1981 A Karl Hinz Film
มุมมอง 606ปีที่แล้ว
Shortly after I met Ginger Coyote back in early 1981 I filmed this interview with her while she typed an article about the band VKTMS for Punk Globe. She discussed her relationship with Nyna Crawford and the other VKTMS and talked about how Punk Globe was formed and produced. Around the same time, I was fortunate enough to have been able to film VKTMS at the Keystone Berkeley. The result of com...
Mouth Of The Rat (1981) A Karl Hinz Film
มุมมอง 776ปีที่แล้ว
In 1981 I made the film “Go To Hell In Hollywood” set to the song of the same name by The Lewd. At the time I shot more footage than the length of the song could accommodate. Gwyn Waters, J. Sats Beret and I decided to use the extra footage for another short called “Mouth Of The Rat”. It stars Gwyn Waters and The Lewd frontman J. Sats Beret with musical soundtrack by Erich “Rad” Yunker. Many th...

SIDESHOW IV (1981) a Karl Hinz Film
มุมมอง 7232 ปีที่แล้ว
The following film was made by Karl Hinz in 1981. It documents the bands that played at Ginger Coyote's Valentine's Day Show at Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco on Feb 9, 1981 and is possibly the only footage of these bands that exists. Two of the bands that played that night changed their names shortly thereafter. The Rimms became the Adaptors and Rindfleisch became Eye Protection, which accou...

Great video! Thank you for the public service you are doing! I was a teen in Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1978 using many of the same strategies you mentioned. Collecting became a whole lot easier when I moved to Los Angeles at the beginning of 1981. About a year later I discovered they had record swap meets! I was in heaven!
Milwaukee. I was literally there a week ago...You guys had the Shivvers ! ! ! ! ! !! Love that band...Yes the LA record swap meets were legendary. Wish I could have gone to those back in the day....
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Problems with the fanzines was the lack of objectivity quality wise, most records just weren’t good at all.
Super great! I stiil lovin' this band since 1983.
What about Frank Manley’s book from the early 90s on Canadian punk called Smash the State. It’s a classic
That's a great point. I have never been able to acquire that book, but would love it since some of my favorite bands ( Viletones, Teenage Head, Lowlife) are Canadian.
@@punkmediaresearchcollectio6593 you'll learn about a whole bunch more with that book. its my fave. It comes with a 7" of can punk rarities. and then he put out 3 volumes of LPs compiling more rare early canadian punk goodies.
They used to have punk bands play in the multi media auditorium in Fullerton College during lunch, it was across the street from the high school so we'd sneak off campus and go over there. Saw Agent Orange, D.I., White Mice, trying to remember who else. Confederate? Or a band a couple of Confederate guys were in? Anyway, then one day Doggy Style played there. Donut Shop Rock was their last song, they dragged this humongous box from back stage, it was like 100 lbs of stale donuts. They threw them into the audience and we went nuts throwing them at each other, and the band, donuts everywhere. They got stomped into the auditorium's carpet and it was so bad the college sued Doggy Style to pay for the cleaning bill. That was the end of them letting bands play there.
super cool. I never knew they did this side band. very cool . I know those guys and will hit them up about this. I played a bunch of shows a the Teazer with Mad Parade in the 90's.
man I'd kill to see the rest of the footage.
I got to see them in July, 1986 when the played the Jockey Club in Newport, KY. Fun show!
Hells yeah placentia hardcore doggy style rules
I l'ose a timmi on the way
Hey Art ..............i very much like re living your music history.
Gorgeous, we love her ❤
This is for all the vatos that used to go to the Olympic Auditorium. I used to go there every Saturday for punk rocks and every Tuesdays with my heina to see Freddie Blassie wrestle
Top Jimmy is the great forgotten treasure of American punk and underground rock.
Any Black Randy sightings?
Very interesting video. Thank you for the call out Dino. I'm hoping to compile Anoraky in the UK 3 next year. Cheers slainte TP
Looking forward to it.

☆Man! Sooo great to see the Almighty Top-Jimmy, Gill T., and the rest of the boys in the band. Ive only ever read about 'em, and their really important- for there to not be any footage out there like this. ♡♡♡♡♡☆
☆Legendary bands. Great sound and camerawork. Love hearing the banter and seein what these swagger-kings are puttin down(!). Actually a great video. This song rocks.
Thanks for uploading this beauty! There’s no much footage of The Masque and I think it was a pivotal place for L.A. Punk and punk in general. ❤
