Nice video!
Is this fished with hook point upwards?
If the upper wing ( towards hook point) is equal or larger than the lower it will ride hook point up. Hook point up is preferred. Good question Thanks.
Tutti fruiti is what we called the pink and chartreuse Clouser.
@@jbpipes9551 yep that's what it's called up here in New England 🙂
Meh best looking clousers are tied sparse.
“I like to call this one the goofy goober”
Thats the creek I first casted a fly rod! Right next to that big ole cement pillar. Never had much luck there but seeing you pull one in during a day like that makes me wanna go back!
Cheers Andy.
@@PapaGringo1 Happy new year bud
@TheUnknownAngler When do you head South?
What a great tradition; thanks for sharing! Happy New Year!!
@@genegorse312 Happy new year.
Hello. What fly line and leader set up did you use?
@@bigmick812 8wt floating line and standard saltwater leader with 15lb tippit. My video on striper leader is actually my all around saltwater leader.
Awesome. Thanks. How’s the action on the 8 pc fly Rod? Also one more question. What size flies? Thank you so much for the help. Happy New Year.
Nice winter fish. Once my guides start freezing i call it a season 😂
Acidfree vaseline works too, and it doesn't harm the coating of your line.
@@WimU2b thank you
Merry Christmas Andy.
White is our go to here in Ohio too
with surgeon knots if you cinch the knot down wrong it is very easy to leave tiny loops in the knot and that greatly affects its strength. i wish you would’ve done multiple tests with each and gotten an average
@@SchwobFishing Yes doing multiple test and taking the average would have been better if I had calibrated monofilament or florocarbon tippit, unfortunately all the tippits I tested were upto 30% differences within the same spool... yes you read that right, wouldn't have believed it myself. That really left me no alternative than do knot against knot. This was more of a fun exercise than an exact experiment. It would take quite a bit of time and money to test all the factors to test all the knots.
Good detail 👌🏼
Great video. Peaceful and educational. I’ll be applying all I learned in 2 weeks when I head upstate to the ADK high peaks!
Thanks for the info appreciate it
What color is the wrap ? , thanks
@@johnyuschak5317 EP Crustaceous brush Olive, also Blue Crab works well too.
Yep
You should remake that video because nobody can see what the lines doing it just shows your hands
Agreed. Maybe its a useful video but with this presentstion i got 0 out of it.
So the 7.3 Davy failure was considered an outlier?
I really appreciate your help with these brushes. Thank you very much! Sub earned 100%
I have always cleaned my reels after each use whether from saltwater or freshwater.... I pull the spool, soak it in warm slightly soapy water and rinse several times, drain in the dish rack til dried, clean the other half, and lube before storing.....been doing this for all my reels 4 years.... they look and perform like new..👍😎🤙
What kind of fly were you using?
Was the bugs at that state park ?
@@ryanbennett4956 the bugs depend on the time of year and weather and can be bad but I've never had a problem while fishing.
@ what about camping ?
@ryanbennett4956 if they've opened up beach camping again no problem. The camping in the campground at the far end of the park is by a salt pond, very buggy.
@ how much was it thinking of doing it soon like December
@@ryanbennett4956 www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/long-key-state-park
Finally some new content! What took you so long?
@@danieleggert4830 Sorry became a grandpa and had to take a little time off... back at it. Thanks for noticing and your support.
Spectacular!!
Tying right now, nice looking fly
I use the Davy knot exclusively. The one reason the knot does not fail is because I have no drag on my line while I retrieve the fish. The only resistance is the friction of the fly line going through the eyes and keeping the rod tip at 11 or 12 o’clock. Just my way of fishing.
Og caught a fish ❤
I tied this fly and out fished my brother 3-1 catching Albies for a week at Harker's Island fishing in ultra clear water where he used the commercially purchased hot glue gun Albie *hore version. Love the action, durability, and coloration in the water.
Rig that grappnel anchor right, and it's easy to get unstuck.
Cool video! I used to fish Monomoy and Chatham back in the 90s. Hardly ever seen any seals. Things have changed indeed. Reeled in some decent stripers! Best of luck!
That section is No Waders above the hatchery. It has sings arounds stating
@@ericmiller6036 no wading we had our waders on because we'd come from another location.
Amazing video Bro🔝!! I love flyfishing🤩! I immediately subscribed to your channel😉
Really like that technique for the tail. Thank you.
Muito boa a sua técnica.
Uma Obra de Arte !!!
Sensacional.
Excelente o seu trabalho.
Believe it or not, the best albie fly I have ever used is a size 4 sparsely tied chartreuse and white closer minnow.
@@PapaGringo1 chartreuse and pink clouser is a hot combination too
@@TheUnknownAngler Albies may be early this year.Bonita are showing up. 12 + years ago albie run in Rhide Island was incredible. Early August. Time will tell.
Used to live in Camilus and was never impressed with Nine mile in my 3 years there and comparatively to other spots in NY, Syracuse area is disappointing for browns. Ratio is 10- 9" stockers : every 1 that's over 14". Local fishers pound the crap out of that creek. You can see footpaths till july. Moved back to western new york, with the Wiscoy, Eastcoy, Cattaraugus and clear creek and never went back to the syracuse streams even for a visit, since. Big turn off to nine mile is the slime covered rocks after mid-june, the carp in the stream and the constant cloudy colored water. If you like early season, 'fish-in-a-barrel' stocker fishing, that's the creek for you. Great video.
@@fredfarkel2990 So I can't disagree with anything you have said. The put and take stocking is not my thing either. I will say to it's credit nine mile is a pretty creek and chock full of brookies. The brookies seam to be native. I do love and have fished all the creeks you've mentioned.
GREAT STUFF" newsub in Idaho!
I have that same SPL, my favorite rod. Got it from Up the Creek in Pittsford years ago. Nice Tie on the March Brown too.
Thank you, it's my favorite trout rod, but like me it's a little rough around the edges.
What reel do you have on it?
Allen Kraken
Unpopular opinion/ question for the ogs in here. These hooks are too big? Smaller tougher wire hooks just seem to make more sense to me.
Damn, that's impressive, and I don't even fish 😂
what are you fishing for? I have a Redington Vice for Pike/Muskie and considering getting this for big flies on sinking line
Stripers mostly but have used it for Red fish, Snook, speckled trout. Will handle big fish and big flies... Great rod.
hey, thanks for the video. i think i saw the pattern for it in an old issue of fly fisherman. i love where you were fishing, is it along "the trail" ? do you usually change the placement of your indicator to account for water depth or do you keep at a set length most of the time ? thanks again !
Yes, and I constantly change the placement of the strike indicator, the new oros indicators make it easy. Rule of thumb is 1 1/2 x depth of water you're fishing.
@@TheUnknownAngler thanks for the info, i always seem to wonder how far up to place it. never too keen on indicators (used to use those darn sticky ones) takes all the fun out of casting for me.
First fly I tied early 70’s in a fly tying club at Spry Junior HS in Webster NY a short drive from Carl Coleman’s fly shop. Club was run by a guidance counselor named Mr Tabor. With the hard as nails the fly was virtually indestructible. I have fished it up and down the East coast with a lot of luck. I thought we added a drop of hard as nails to the wing case but after 50 years maybe my memory is a bit off. Thanks!
Rick Tabor I'm assuming went to Cape Cod with him just before he passed. The simple marabou streamer is one of his patterns. Great guy worked at the store for years.
