Jon Boat to Flats Boat Summary
มุมมอง 3982 ปีที่แล้ว
This project couldnt have turned out any better. The boat is a 1999 AlumaCraft 1442 with original trailer that spent much of its life in salt water. The hull had to be stripped to bare metal, patched, sealed and painted. The trailer got new everything. Its a very versatile platform for marsh, flats and river fishing...I love it. I have to thank fellow tubers for posting their projects. Especial...

    I am in the process of stripping and painting my 1985 Spring Box 16'. It has 3 or 4 layers of paint. So far I have spread paint stripping chemicals on it and gave it a quick scrape after a long time, it kinda helped... but it took 1 or maybe 2 layers. I tried stripping it with a 3m stripping disk before the solvents and it took a lifetime to do 4 Sq ft. I'm going to throw another coat of stripper on it and try scraping it with the wire brush like you have done, I feel like it will work really well. I'll finish with the stripping disk and whatever sanding tools to get around the 10 million rivets

      @FAN3LL1 circa 1850 heavy body paint and varnish remover plus pressure washer. I just restored my 16' aluminum 1977 springbok rocket III runabout. Apply it thick with paint brush seal with plastic for a few hours to remove even more paint in one go then pressure wash off. Made project 1000x easier than sanding plus didn't leave sanding marks so I could have polished metal to a mirror surface if I wanted to.

    “Scuff it and edge it.” What does that mean and why do you do it?

    • @rvdawg6231
      @rvdawg6231 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Short answer....Scuffing and etching make aluminum more able for paint to adhere to. Scuffing is done usually with a wire brush or sandpaper, and etching is done with chemicals.

      @@Fronk11 Update: The pressure washer does not work. I used many different paint strippers and no luck. I got so impatient with it. I had a buddy sand blast it for me. His rig took the paint right off. Took no time. Either way, paint stripping sucks.

      @riverdog1643 oh buddy. I have been at it for like 6 hours with a couple little breaks. I applied paint stripper to the whole thing then scraped it down this morning and vaccuumed the paint up, then I applied another coat of stripper and scrubbed the whole thing with a wire brush. I am about to power wash the inside heavily, then I'll sand it all with a paint stripper disk and sandpaper to get it ready for paint and remove the last bit of paint left. The second coat and wire brush got rid of most of the paint, but there will be a lot of elbow grease with the power tools still

    Hi, am in the process of stripping my 14-36 lowe - I used the orange Citristrip spray , let it curdle the paint, then used a shop vac to actually suction most of the paint off - very little scraping needed

      You are lucky dude. I put solvable paint stripper gel on my boat. I had a go at it with a scraper after the advertised 20 mins, then 4 hours, then just a few minutes ago the next day. It took 1 or 2 layers off, but there is still a full layer of primer and some spots have paint on that primer. A few bare spots. I'm going to do another coat and follow the same process that this man in the video did. You got lucky

    Not a bad redfish day-sure some beautiful ones. Used to be on fish angler until they stopped deleting those insulting women. Followed and followed by a young guy from your area. Also had a channel here 'Yaking the Blackwater', lot of fishing, weekend camping, good content. Haven't found him since about the time I left the fishing app-don't know if channels can block but if so maybe he did. I got a little heated with an Aussie when he told a women her liked her hooters better than the fish, put an open check on anyone on the app then eventually left.

    Very well laid out, and everything handy! Never thought about pool noodles. I've rubber bumps but they're barely 1/2" tall, don't do alot. Seeing these noodles reminded me of something. Noodles every need replaced hardware stores have pipe insulation up to 12' that are split like noodles, denser foam, smooth finish, more durable-$2 or so. Never thought about using them on my gunrails till now. Hook em!

    Very decent for a F20. I've a bay boat, '06 Griffth 144, 450lb factory weight, with a '06 Johnson 25 2-cycle, 31 bumping 32mph on the only run I did on Deerpoint fresh water, say they run faster on salt. Pointed bow but flat bottom like yours. Bought it knowing I'd have to do the powerhead so I tweaked here and there some. I know some running 70s-90s on 17' & 18' that can barely bump 40-we can't complain.

      Bouncing on the bay at 25 in this flat bottom little boat is plenty fast for me. I had a Mako Pro Skiff 17 with a 60 Merc. Very heavy skiff with split tunnel Hull, comfortable with top end of only 34 mph. I much prefer the smaller, light weight Jon for my style of fishing, it's like a big kayak in a lot of ways. What is the term you used. To etch mean..

    • @adventuretim4356
      @adventuretim4356 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aluminum surfaces need special preparation before painting. This differs from most surfaces in that aluminum must be etched. Etching is a technique that involves coating the metal with an acid, which causes a chemical reaction that in turn produces a slight engraving. This helps paint adhere to the aluminum surface.

      Sure, i removed the head and spliced 8 awg marine wire into the control leads and the power leads, silicone shut the bottom of the head. It just so happens to fit nicely under the Pinnacle seat (on top of the base). Various zip ties to hold it in place. I didnt have to fabricate a base for it...and its very portable, just cut the zip ties.

So i repurposed the stern drive TM into a bow mounted TM...utilizing Nucanoes bow mount, some angle iron and scrap wood. Remote lift still works with the pulleys.
