I setup a small 2 gallon Shop Vac to suck grindings away while I grind and will use either Play-Doh or non hardening modeling clay to pack in the crank case. Generally some grindings don’t hurt anything if you do a thorough flush. Just sharing my experiences not knocking you because I’ve done it that way many times as well with no problems. You build some strong saws bud nice work.
@@Houseworksaws I’ve tried plumbers putty in the past but it was hard to get out. I’ll try play doh next time I grind a case
@@rkfirewood7576 use a little light oil first i.e WD40… helps it come off easier. The non drying modeling clay I got off Amazon for like 5$ has been the easiest to remove. Most cases it comes right off with little to no clean up
@@Houseworksaws thanks for the tip I’ll try it next time
@@rkfirewood7576 Keep up the great builds man. Your saws are really impressive I like your style
You can also stuff the case with play-doh before grinding it. Then you dont have to worry about chips everywhere.
I like that sharpener
I like the 400 really well from all ive seem about them. I have alot of saws but im wanting a 400 like that.
Nothing like a sharp chainsaw and a nice oak. Thanks for the great cutting/bucking fix. Well done, did not have to sit through a lot of BS.
Nice overview for someone wondering what it would take to get started.
Put some links in that description kid. Also that Chicago grinder isn't being made anymore apparently. Bummer.
@@Mightycaptain yea I was wondering why it said available in store only
@@rkfirewood7576vevor makes a decent one and it is reversible. They were around 65$ when i got mine.
Run it hard brother. 😎
You are doing really interesting stuff with some of these saws. It's a shame your channel doesnt have a bigger following.
Once you add all the tooling and time and work together paying someone 350$ to port a saw doesnt seem too bad.
Yeah I agree. But it sure is fun to try different ideas and experiment
@@rkfirewood7576absolutely. Anyone who invests this much into it definitely has a passion for it.
Nice
Might have had a good log for the mill. White oak?

How to "Hot Rod" your chainsaw...lol.
Looks like you have enough irons in the fire? Lots going on!!
Yea lol. That’s kind of how you have to do it since parts take a week or longer to come in.
Where do get em ported & what's it cost
I port them
I have the same filter. Have you had trouble with the throttle sticking when having the filter pushed all the way down like that?
@@McTree2013 no I have not
That grinder is the bees knees🙌
Oh yea! Can’t beat the consistency of it
Hi, I'm just getting started on small engines, and eventhough I've been a mechanic on cars for many years, I find these small engines different, interesting, and challenging. I have a couple of questions: The only reason you're advancing the timing is to get more power? After you remove the plug and put the starter rope into the cylinder, you rotate the motor until it hits a stop. Which stop is it? Is it TDC or BDC? Why do you put the starter rope into the cylinder? Thanks for making the video and sharing your knowledge.
Yes timing advance to get more power, everything is conservative from factory to protect against operator error such as dull chain (high rpm no load). I put the rope in the chamber to prevent the motor from rotating over while tightening the flywheel while also keeping it in its new advanced position.
@@rkfirewood7576 Thanks for replying. So when you put the rope in the chamber, you stuff enough rope inside to prevent the piston from moving? I was confused because you only put a small length of rope in the chamber. Not enough to block piston from moving.
Do the same to my blower😁
@@eclipz3424 you mean you advanced timing on a backpack blower?
I saw a new square grinder is on the market now and it looks pretty awesome. Just dont wanna spend the money on one because i dont cut enough.
STIHL hexa chain could be an option. You can get a special file to get results similar to square grinding. Round grinding chain isn’t as consistent for me. But with this simington I get consistent results every time.
@@rkfirewood7576i dont get consistent angles with my round grinder either. The angle marks are all jacked up and everything has so much play it is a crapshoot. Good enough for work, not good enough to beat anything out of the box
@@Super-Dave-Outdoors main problem with the round grinder is profiling the wheel, you have to do it by hand. Hard to keep a consistent shape when doing it by hand. You could try a cbn wheel on your grinder too.
Do you run round or square chain on downed wood like that?
Square chain. I can sharpen quicker with my simington vs. a round grinder. I run STIHL rs chain and convert it to square, it holds the best edge in hardwood. I use softer chain like Oregon for dirty wood
@@rkfirewood7576awesome to know! You have some cool builds going!
And who in their right mind would spend $2400 for a stihl 881 ? Ive got clown saws on my channel. Ive eaten dinner with Manny from Holtzfforma and videod his factory but i have my own line of clown saws, ProMag.
I’d like to a get a real 880 someday, but don’t want the 881. 880 can make more power from dyno joes dyno videos on them.
@@rkfirewood7576 cool didnt know it had more power on 880.
@@metalandwood4u could be due to no unlimited coil for 881 yet but not sure.
@@rkfirewood7576 ah yes. I need to experiment with unlimited coils.
Who ported it
@@sawnut3814 stock. Just bolt ons.
@@rkfirewood7576 those are impressive
just got mine.. damn thing is loud af, lol...
How long did you let it sit in their
Im likely being too fussy but I grind the left rakers first then put the chain in the vice backwards and do the right side, this gets them all exactly the same height and only takes a minute longer. Mine end up off a few tho from one side to the other when I do like like you do without flipping the chain around, it still cuts ok but it messes with my ocd lol.
Dumm und dümmer… 😳

Chinese saws are getting better!! Sounds good!!
It’s hit or miss with the Chinese stuff. I’ve had better luck with the STIHL clones. This one in the video needs clutch springs.
Great job!! 👍
