I see the logic here - but it would require a different legal change. The authority of police to take you into custody or seize your belongings (like towing your car) is based in criminal enforcement. To do so "for your own well being" becomes a constitutional issue - and a scary case of where they think the boundaries of 'your own good' may be. I don't *dis*agree with you - just saying it's not as simple as presented, and the 'solution' raises as many issues as the 'problem'.

Driving w/o insurance isn't a crime either, but MADD made insurance mandatory precisely so drunk drivers could get it. Btw, you can't say you don't drink unless you *never* drink. If you drink at holidays or an occasional drink, you drink. Stop fudging. I had a friend who said she didn't drink. Then she had a beer. I'll never believe her about anything else. When I say I don't drink, it means I never, ever, drink. Lowering the blood alcohol levels won't change a thing. People who are going to drink and drive will drink and drive regardless. And a victim is anyone who has to take evasive action to avoid someone who got in the car after drinking. You don't need to get drunk for it to affect you.

MADD supports mandatory insurance for all drivers, which is insane. We have to pay for drunk drivers insurance - the very reason for mandatory insurance. Mandatory insurance doesn't stop people from driving drunk and it's no comfort for those injured or those that lost loved ones.

A crime requires a Victim, leading to just compensation. Yes, this is logical. Revenge is an emotion that misleads, e.g., the desired/expected result is never what is acquired, after reflection. I was permanently disabled in 1978 by a reckless driver. My life has been shortened, years lost immediately afterward and still I suffer daily. The driver was released without punishment. After 36 years I looked her up. She divorced, then died of cancer. I was disappointed. I wanted to ask her if she knew what she did. She didn't visit me in hospital or ever communicate. Now, at 82, I realize this was not my worse loss. My only friend died after his cousin ran off the road, crashing the car in a ditch, 1954. It haunted my dreams every night for 5 years. My takeaway: I found a way to live. I overcame. Nothing else matters. I wasn't hurt by the fact that the perps didn't suffer. I didn't need revenge.

I loved this. I'm an herbalist and a member of an herbalist's guild (the American Herbalists Guild) and I think this kind of private association is the best way to ensure good practice. But as for the issue of drugs I want to share a dream I had about 20 years ago. I was standing guard at the door of a prison cell, but the cell was more like a bank vault. The walls were very thick and the door was huge and heavy. There were two prisoners inside. One kept drying to open the door and walk out and i kept having to tell him to go back inside and kept shutting the door. The other, however, simply walked through the wall and escaped. I was given the interpretation as I woke up. The prisoners were drugs. The jail cell was government control. The substances people use to numb their physical and emotional pain, such as alcohol and cannibis, were represented by the prisoner who walked through the walls of the cell and could not be contained. I was told that people will always seek some way to numb there pain and no amount of government control will every put a halt to that. The other represented hardcore drugs. Again, the government (represented by the cell) couldn't contain them. There were always legal loopholes and problems that would open the door to these things. But I, as the guard, represented the community of people who care about each other, and it was only me, as part of that caring community that could help to restrain the use of these substances. I've never looked at the problem the same way since that dream.

A wasted vote is voting for a candidate who you really don't want. A purposeful, thoughtful vote is voting for me is the Libertarian, Chase Oliver. I like some of the things that RFK had to say and even some policy positions of Donald Trump, but I can't stomach the way he talks, maybe even less than Harris, and even a lot of his positions certainly don't make sense for our country and our children's futures. He is absolutely not even a small government Republican. I don't even hear him saying anything about cutting spending. I don't vote out of fear for Trump or Harris becoming president anymore than I would take either a long or short position in a meme stock. I suspect those who are afraid of 'wasting' their vote are just plain afraid. Thanks to #ChaseOliver for stepping up to give me that choice.

I first heard His voice during a complete nervous breakdown, attempted suicide. He brought my attention to my children and said, "What about them, how is you dying this way going to affect them? You need wisdom." (wisdom a word I would not have thought on my own) I stopped and just cried and cried, "I need help, I need wisdom." over and over all the to the Crisis Stabalization Unit (psyche ward) A series of things happened there to prepare I wont go into but on the 3rd day, I had a meeting with my husband and Dr to talk about my condition and I had been fearful thinking he would never forgive me and would probably waant to divorce me. When he came into the room, he acted like nothing happened and gave me a big hug lifting me up off the ground. At that moment I heard "Jesus" then "You are blessed. Everything is going to be okay because you're okay." And was healed at that moment of all fear and depression. Ai went home filled with His love and joy unspeakable and full of glory. All I wanted to know this Jesus [that I knew was 1000% unconditional LOVE, without any doubt already] but I went to the Bible and it confirmed what I already about his love but learned about the trinity etc. All that to say, He revealed Himself in me at a literal psyche ward as Mr. Kruger said. He meets us where we are in our darkness. Thank you for all you do to share the truth!✝️❤️‍🔥🙌♾️

At around the 39:20 mark, Jim Babka criticized Dave Smith for saying that one of the goals of the Mises Caucus was to shed the Libertarian Party of its wokeness. Around 47:30, Jim said that everybody these days is into identity politics, which is a curse. So, wasn’t Dave and the Mises Caucus trying to get rid of this curse? When Dave talks about getting rid of the wokeness (identity politics), he isn’t saying that should be the ultimate goal of libertarians. He is saying that libertarians should be focused on selling liberty and not wokeness. But in order to sell liberty, the party has to rid itself of the people who are into identity politics, otherwise the liberty message won’t be there and it won’t sell. In 2020, the LP presidential candidate put much focus on virtue signaling to groups instead of opposing lockdowns and putting more emphasis on issues like war. It is looking likely that 2024 might not be much different, as the identity politics takes center stage. That is the point. We don’t need to shed wokeness for the sake of doing so. It is so that the LP candidate can represent a message of liberty instead of getting distracted with these culture war issues and spending time virtue signaling to various groups. If we are going to go back to a time of Harry Browne, then the party really does need to get rid of the identity politics. Everyone can be different, but that shouldn’t be the focus of the message except in so far that people should be free to live their life how they want as long as they don’t aggress on others. There hasn’t been anyone like Harry Browne since 2000 within the LP. There was Ron Paul in 2008 and 2012, but of course he was running as a Republican and didn’t get the nomination. I wish there had been a Harry Browne running in the LP in 2024, but I am not certain that he would have received the nomination. That is why Dave is right that the party needs to shed its wokeness. It’s so that the party can get back to selling liberty.

Now RFK jr will get more in one cycle than this party ever has. What a failure after the greatest 4 yrs to show ppl why they needed something new, and yall want to give them the same rebranded crap.

I agree that I think the convention itself was a net success, while it was punctuated by a disappointing outcome in the nominee.

@RussellNelson Yeah I agree with that. I'm just disappointed in general, Rec and all the other candidates were unimpressive. With the past 4 yrs we've had as a country, the party needed to put out someone worth while. I just think Oliver is the bottom of the barrel, not that the others were the creme of the crop

I disagree. If you are a republican, living in a blue state, or a democrat, living in a red state - your voice doesn't count towards anything. How is this fair? Do people need to move to swing states, if they want their vote to count? Right now these few swing states choose the destiny of the whole world (not exaggerating). But I do agree that the voting system can be changed in even more ways to make it even more fair. Like being able to vote for several candidates at once, or ordering the candidates from the most preferable to the least preferable. This way, the 2 party system could be cracked and more people can be better represented.

I like your allusion to ranked-choice voting. Where I live (California) is not a battleground state, so if I'm not voting in alignment with the way that our California-gerrymandered districts are organized to deliver California's votes in Presidential elections, my vote means zip zero nada. Therefore, I feel your frustration with the unfairness of that aspect of Electoral College. Still, I'm curious about your response to Jim's assertions about how, even with all that, the College still promotes diversity.

@@billprotzmann1 yeah, it does offer diversity, but I can't really say that this is always a good thing, in the sense that the country can't have one prolonged and coherent policy, that's supported by the majority of the people. And without an electoral college, the Republican party itself (since it is the one benefiting from the EC) will need to follow the people's needs, if they want their votes, instead of having to rely on their former glory, while offering bullshit policies, that very few people actually agree with. It will just lead to a more "centered" parties, where at least part of the policies, can be maintained, no matter which party the president belongs to. Meanwhile a ranked-choice voting will increase the diversity, as people will be able to vote for whom they actually support, instead of being forced to vote "against" the one they don't want. And 3rd party candidates will become more likely.

I joined the LP in Reno, 1973, attended 3 POTUS nominating conventions, two as a rep for Nevada. My best friend, Karl Bray, could have easily won the nomination, running as a tax resister. He was asked to attend a "secret" meeting with all the top libertarians, where they convinced him to "back off" because "now is not the time for a tax rebellion". They promised to back him when the time is right. The "time" for a tax revolt was ripe. I know because I attended a "Tax resistance" convention in LA, 1971. That's where I met Karl, who was the most popular speaker among the 1000+ male, elderly conservatives who had been "God fearing, proud tax payers" all their lives. They told story after story of the IRS making up charges, then extorting them. That group was enraged, betrayed, and wanted justice.
