From the idol of Lord Krishna, a feeling arises; when you see the idol of Krishna, a positive emotion is evoked. When you see a peculiar one, another feeling arises. But these emotions are beyond and above. Emotions are attached to the name, the form, and beyond that, there is a state of pure consciousness, the unchanging, non-dual awareness, and that is the form of Lord Shiva. Question: You often say that the things we oppose remain more persistent, but should I not oppose the negative proposals made to deliberately disturb me? If I remain silent, they might assume I accept them. Please guide me. Gurudev: Do not stay silent, who says to stay quiet? If someone abuses you, you may give them four abuses in return, but the abuse you give should not come from your heart, it should be from the surface. And if you give it with some purpose, it is fine. There are four ways to deal with it: Sama, Daan, Bhed, and Dand. I should not adopt this nature; if I do, the harm is mine. Look, every time you get angry, the harm is to you. Someone made a mistake today, and you got angry. When you got angry, it affected your mind and body. Then, tomorrow, if someone else makes a mistake, and you get angry again, you are punishing yourself. Why punish yourself so much? If someone insults you… imagine a shoe bite… how many here have had a shoe bite/ slipper bite. (The shoe/slipper bites you) Do you also bite the shoe/slipper ? Is this wisdom? No, you won’t bite your shoe. Similarly, if someone insults you, it’s foolish to react in anger. This does not mean I should be inactive. It means that I should act with awareness and purpose. Always do what you feel is the right thing, and do not worry about what others think. Don’t try to show them something. Even if they think of you as weak, let them; their thinking doesn’t change who you are. And if you stay silent, they will wait for you to make a mistake so that they can feel better about their own wrongdoings. If you remain calm, you give them no ground to justify their actions. Question: Guruji, please explain the deeper meaning of Pandurang. Gurudev: Pandurang means the eternal soul, which resides within the five elements. The term 'Pandurang' refers to the soul residing in the body and the universe, which is created by the five elements. The word 'Vithal' refers to that which moves. The soul within us is the one that moves the body. Without the soul, the body cannot move. The universe, in essence, is a stage for the soul, which dances on it. This world is a place for celebration, not for crying. Crying is a kind of drama. Question: Guruji, in childhood, we are dependent on our parents; as we grow older, others depend on us, and in old age, we become dependent on others. In these three stages, where is happiness? Gurudev: Searching for happiness in these stages is foolish. You are the embodiment of happiness; if you rest, you will be happy. Happiness is inside you, don’t search for it outside. If you search for happiness in the world, you will only get temporary pleasure, and then pain follows. Therefore, Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita that the world is temporary and does not offer true happiness, He did not say their is sorrow in the world but that it has no joy to offer. So do not search for joy here. This does not mean that you run away from the world. Having attained this, you remember Me. You be connected to Me, when you are connected then it is joy, happiness. Else you will be drowned in maya, something will take over you and you will be sad. The saints have said the maya’s reach is far and wide. It is difficult to say how, when maya will take over a person. A net will come over you, you will be working with someone and see their good qualities and suddenly get attachment for them. You do not understand what is happening. Similarly you have anger towards someone, you are upset with them and that aversion turns into attachment! Many have had this experience-the ones they were angry towards, later they developed attachment for them. The ones they had a fight with they got love for them (you cannot call it love but a kind of attachment) The mind's attachment is like a deep illusion. The mind can suddenly develop a strong attachment to someone or something, which can turn into a deep craving or hatred. Over time, this turns into confusion and delusion, where you forget who you are and why you are in this world. "Krodha Bhavati Samoh! Anger arises from desire, and from desire, anger comes. If there is no desire, then anger will not arise. Krodha Bhavati Samoh! Anger leads to attachment (moh), and from attachment, we forget who we are. We forget what we are, why we came into this world, what we came to do, and where we are getting trapped. All of this is forgotten. Sammoh Smriti Vibhrama! Memory gets confused. We forget who we are, what we are, what our purpose in life is, and where we are heading. All this is lost. Smriti Bhrama, Buddhi Nash! Then, the intellect gets destroyed. The intellect is completely influenced, and then we become miserable." Question: Guruji, you said that sorrow does not last forever; it stays only for two and a half days. I have felt this, but my life is full of sorrow. I cannot surrender my desires. What should I do, Guruji? Please guide me. Gurudev: Hold on tightly to your desires, don’t let them go. See what happens. You have to let go of your attachments. Sometimes, people even find pleasure in their suffering, but don’t hold on to it. Relax, take it easy, and do what is easy and right for you.
