Willow Ridge Lumber
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 เม.ย. 2024
Hello. I'm Jason Brown. I am the owner of Willow Ridge Lumber. I'm a 4th generation sawmill/logger in North Carolina. I wanted to create this channel for a couple of reasons. First, my business was established in 2018 and growing every day. I wanted the channel to be a platform so others could be inspired and see the work, challenges, and rewards of starting and running a small business. Second, I am always working on something whether it's equipment, buildings, lawnmowers, tractors, etc. I hope the channel will inspire someone to "go out and fix something" as well as simplistically provide educational material.

I can do all things through Christ... love your business motto and your greasing advice!!
Very nice sawmill, another great video!👍🏻
Good looking lumber yard,great video!👍🏻
Great tip!👍🏻
Nice work, great video!👍🏻
Good video JB, I’m from up north and like you just a working class dude who always worked on his own equipment. I work in offset printing and your tutorial on bearings is spot on and very helpful. Good luck with the channel, new sub here.
Thank you very much! I’ve been super busy this summer, but I’ve got some more videos to make soon. Thanks for your compliment and for watching.
Hi JB, Great video! I learned so much! I am , even before your video, interested in a Cub Cadet. I'm very glad to learn of these potential problems that come from all kinds and makes of equipment. Wishing you well in all your future projects!
MTD still means More Time Down...
E have two of those mowers and they are hands down the best mowers we’ve ever had. And we’ve had a lot of them. Including John Deere , Gravely, Steiner, Grasshopper to mention a few.
Are you saying the cub cadet is the best mower? If so, I have to disagree. I have a Gravely 260z that’s nearly 20 years old. As it is now, it’s 10x better than that scrub cadet.
What you are showing has nothing to do with the mower. It has to do with the components that are on a lot of other mowers.
Im sorry, but I respectfully disagree. The engineers at MTD design these mowers with components to certain specifications. Then, the purchasing department buys the absolutely cheapest components that meets the specifications of the engineers. So, even though the components are made by other companies, it’s MTD’s decision to use poor quality parts in order to increase profits. I know how this works. That was my job for 23 years working for a big retailer. We did the same thing. Since I made this video, the mower has broken down again.
Question? Did the grass blow all over you while you were mowing or did it shoot totally on the ground? I have this mower and while cutting it blows so much grass back on me windy or not. It does cut the grass perfectly tho.
I don’t remember it blowing on me. The wind blows at my house about all the time. I’m kinda used to grass blowing on me, so if it did I don’t remember it.
@@WillowRidgeLumber Thanks sir for responding. Have a blessed day.
@@soblessed6438 I hope you do the same.
Cub Cadet gives double the discount to national latino association as they do a veteran. I had 4 and ordering another one until I found this out , I now have no cadets and 3 Exmarks
48 minutes.
It probably has sealed bearing in the the spindles, my question is how greasing the spindles with a grease gun, puts grease in a sealed bearing. I take the bearings out right after I purchase a mower, hand greasing the bearing, I also leave the the seals out of the bearings on the inside of the spindles, leave the seals on the outside, this will allow grease to enter the bearing when you grease with a grease gun. My dad owned 2 cub cadets in his life, he always said he knew why MTD painted them Yellow, lol.
What you just experienced, was the cheap $20 spindles that they use. Mine experienced the exact same issue. Also the throttle control is a cheap piece of plastic, and will break on you soon. PTO switch will fail soon as well. Some have complained of ground faults from either the ignition switch, or safety switches. Grass shoot is cheap and breaks easily, deck on grass flap side damages easily. Typical scrub cadet!
Property tour & a weather report... Don't waste my time.
Thanks for your video,,, you probably saved me a lot of frustration from buying the club cadet zero mower…I’ve been looking at the Kubota Z242kw-48 inch zero mower……. With me being retired at 67 years old and me getting one check monthly and me watching all 48 minutes of your video I definitely give you a 5 star review…. Thanks for your help my friend 🤙
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Be sure to check out my other videos. I’ve got more on the way. Kubota is great equipment. My tractor is a 2007 L4740. It has almost 3k hours and I have never had any trouble at all from it.
@@WillowRidgeLumber again thank you,,, I got new Kubota Z242KW. I picked it up this Tuesday
Great video, I am really considering one of these ZTS2 zero turns, good to know about the spindles and bearings. Thanks
I hope the video helped you out.
I've seen so many Cub Cadets that suck ass!
J B. Now that you’ve done the factory’s job for them, how often should you repack the bearings? Thanks for sharing.
I would say that under normal mowing conditions, I would repack these kinds of bearings about every 100 hours of usage. I repack those little bearings that go on the roller guides for my sawmill about every 100-150 hours. I just did those. They were getting fairly dry at 150 hours. Thank you for watching. Be sure to check out my other videos!
There are two controls on this gun, the speed control and the counter dial. The speed control is on the body under the barrel grip. Setting 1 is for low flow rate, high pressure; setting 2 is for high flow rate, low pressure. The counter dial is a nice feature but is not a pressure adjustment. Set the number to how many pumps you want and pull the trigger. Release, repeat. The trigger is a one shot deal, you're not controlling pressure by "easing" the trigger. This is all in the manual. All that said, it is still a good idea to pause in between bursts as you demonstrated to give the new grease time to squeeze through. If there is a blockage and you keep pumping, you are naturally going to increase the pressure in the line. You will likely find your next maintenance run easier when you become accustomed to how many pumps a specific fitting will take.
I did not know this. I knew one controlled the speed of the pump. I figured the dial was the pressure setting. Than you for sharing, and thank you for watching. Be sure to check out my other videos.
*Tip from a Geezer...get some black(or any colour really) nitrile gloves for whenever you're dealing with grease, oil, or whatever else. Those hand degreasers are expensive nowadays! I doubt all those petroleum products will make you sick or anything, but why take a chance too, eh? As you get older, if you've listened to the tips that the older guys passed on along the way, you'll appreciate the positive effects on your health, when you compare yourself to the whippersnappers who didn't listen, cause they knew everything already. 😉. Take care, and 1 more thing... "Safety First" will save your life someday. Take care of your body's health, and you'll be one step closer, to being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor down the road...👍🏻 Great video btw. Thanks for doing this, and doing it well, Bud🙏🏻
I have some. Where I’ve cut, burned, and smashed my fingers over the years, I don’t have much feeling in my finger tips. I have a hard time feeling things with no gloves on. I think that’s why I drop things so much. Usually, when I working with chemicals, I wear them. I’m bad to fly into a job and not even think about it. Thanks for the tip. I’m glad you liked the video. Be sure to check out my other ones as well.
Glad seen this video I was steering my mom away from a cub zero turn yesterday with the Kawasaki. Crazy that they got rid of grease fitting. 4k and they are still cutting corners to sell more mowers.
Yep. The best mowers are the ones built years ago. I primarily run older machinery of all kinds because they are made better, easier to work on, and don’t have all the new electronic problems. Thank you for watching. Be sure to check out my other videos.
Don’t buy one…period.
For trailer wheel bearing I use marine lubeplate and Lucas extra 3 for every thing apse and only timkin brand bearing 😊😊😊
Absolutely Outstanding video with articulate detail on how to rebuild spindles and use the correct bearings and grease. His attention to detail and simple explanations result in an absolutely excellent video. Great job!!! 👍👍👍
Thank you very much!! I really appreciate your compliments. I’m just an old country boy. I try to keep things simple. Be on the look out for my other videos as well.
Great job indeed 👍🏾

Another great video. Hope all is well brother. God bless
Thanks. Everything is good. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I was skeptical about making it, but I thought someone might benefit from it. God bless you as well.
Most decent mowers have grease nipples to grease the spindles…but that’s a upgrade on more pricey models
Well, that’s the way it has been. I’ve seen very expensive ones go to sealed bearings.
It would be nice to see a new manufacturer come in.. and realize all we have to do is treat the people right.. and there would be no competition between these other clowns.. that make several machines that are the same but with different colors...😊
I agree. If I was a wealthy man, I would start an appliances company and build them as close to how they were made 50 years ago. Even if they were double the cost, I think they would sell because they would last 4 times as long. And, I would sell direct. Not through the big box stores. Service would be done by people employed by the company, not by a third party. Businesses that used to be good, honorable businesses have watered themselves down to the point that they sell crap.
Thank you for putting this up. I am a believer and like you, have experienced Christ love and so many blessings over the years. Please keep these sessions coming as I know the Lord will continue to bless you!
Thank you for watching. There will be more episodes coming soon. God bless you and your family.
Make sure the spacing on the ignition coils is correct
I enjoyed the video. I have a heaviness. I been dealing with a few things lately. Hard to explain em. Hard to talk about em really but God will work it out. Enjoyed talking with you last night there for a few minutes. Maybe another time will rise. Take care.
Enjoyed talking with you the other night as well. Yes, keep talking to the Lord and He will see you through. It may not be easy, but He will make a path.
Brother all I can say is GREAT video. We thank him everyday for everything he has done for us. God bless you and your family.
Thank you. It makes me happy that you enjoyed the video. The world needs the Lord now more than ever. God bless you and your family as well. MTD ain’t worth a piss. 🤜🏻🤛🏻🇺🇸
LOL. I tend to agree with you.
I got the same grease gun a few months ago and I have been doing the same thing and trying to cram grease fast. Thanks for the tip. I’ll try that next time!
Thanks for watching. I hope it helps. I was wasting almost as much as I was getting into the grease joint. Be sure to check out my other videos. I have a new one coming out in a day or so.
Great tips! I have the 12 volt version and it works great. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! More videos coming soon.
Why does a zero turn mower have a stering wheel?
The steering wheel is connected to the linkage that controls each individual drive motor. It is intended for people who want the maneuverability of zero turn, with the simplicity of using a steering wheel instead of two levers.
Steering wheel turns the front wheels, they do not spin freely like a normal zero turn. This allows you to mow on much steeper hills without losing traction. If you mow hills, this is the best type of mower you can buy.
It’s a cub cadet exclusive design. Tye wheels don’t free float like a traditional zero turn. The steering wheel controls the front wheels while simultaneously controlling the rear independent transmissions. It improves keeping the machine straight on slopes.
so you can drink and drive I am told
Using mine on the excavator I get in a fight with it sometimes. lol. 😂
Me too. I hate greasing stuff. Before I figured this out,, I was getting grease everywhere. Its better now.
Wow I'm at 200h with my ZT1 42 2020 model so far she hanging in there. That sounds rough for sure! Love that mower lift I'm jealous🤣

@@WillowRidgeLumber Awesome 😎
have you ever heard of Chinese junk. some come with grease fittings,
Yes. Everything is from China now.
Never ran a sawmill. Pondered on buying one and trying it but ended up buying an excavator with a mulching head etc and started all that. I need to stop by there one day soon and ask you about some purlins. I may do the rafters like yours and just build me a shop instead of trying to afford a metal one. Idk. Been pondering hard about that lately. I enjoyed the video. Maybe I’ll get my channel started up before long. Take care.
Come on by and I’ll give you the grand tour. The next trusses I use, I’m going to use one of mine to go by and build my own.
need to leave off the inner seals and drill and tap for a grease fitting so you can grease
I thought about that. The man reason I didn’t is because of time. I just didn’t have the time to get into it that deep. The next time these need grease, I’ll probably do that. Great suggestion.
Bearings suffix: Two seals (both sides) PP One seal (one side) P Two shields DD One shield D example: Fafnir 5208 PP, has two sealed sides I normally open a new bearing up, flush it out with diesel fuel & repack them with fresh grease because what they come with isn't very good. One other thing to note, if you have a greaseable spindle housing, always remove the seals on the inner side of each bearing. But keep the outer seals in place This way, when you grease the spindles, the grease coming in can push the old grease out I use the green grease for my JD Excellent How To, Thanks
Great ideas! I agree with you about cleaning the old grease out. I was going to do that, but I figure I’ll be working on this thing again before the summer is over. Thanks for watching. Check out my other videos. I’ve got more videos coming soon on my LT 70 woodmizer sawmill. I had to do a lot of work to it.
good sense of humor
Thank you. I try to input a little humor here and there. It makes things fun. Sometimes I get pretty mad at things too when they don’t cooperate. I edit those times out. Check out my other videos. I have more coming soon.
