How To Build Spark Plug Wires | PWP DIY #diyautomotive #sparkplug #hotrodshop #engineperformance
In this PWP DIY video, Merl walks you through the process of building spark plug wires. These spark plug wires are for the El Camino R&R. In this situation we are using ceramic spark plug boot wires to prevent heat damage from headers. This approach ensures reliable high-quality spark plug wires tailored to your specific application. Let me know if this is how you deal with heat from headers?

Found a couple threads stripped in the flywheel of the 68 El Camino. Any thread repair is a precision task. Flywheels are critical components, in this case the holes we need to repair hold the pressure plate in place. The process involves repairing stripped or damaged bolt holes using a repair kit. In this car the clutch was burned up, reason being the pressure plate was not properly torqued be...

My old small block 283 in my 65 chev pickup , ran like a dream 👍🇨🇦
Vintage I like the simplicity fuel air and spark no digital crap to complicate it
It depends on what I want to do with it but I'm going to have a carbureted no matter which way I go
Vintage stock
Rebuilt, more reliable,
Both
Old school!
Do you lose the smell adding fuel injectors to the older cars? Older cars have a smell that I always liked and wasn't sure if that was strictly carbureted engines?
Old vintage
Rebuilt old school!!!! I got one in my shed now that I am doing!!! 79 F150 4x4
Whatever is cheaper!
Stock, its better than a M, I have an M so I know.
Vintage
Whichever sounds better
I have a lot of respect but no love for a carburetor. I'll have mine injected yes please
I'll take what I can get lol
@@jake-ip9vg nice! Me too!
Old school and my tool box nothings stopping me
@@robsimpson3402 pretty crazy how many old school fans.. thanks for the vote!!
I'll take old every time.
@@WayneSmith-zx3tf you share the same opinion as lots of people, the engine the truck is in is so cool. It’s old blue, there are some videos on it.
Rebuilt properly
@@BrettProud a good rebuilt engine is really nice!
Can I just keep my 03 Harley-Davidson with the supercharger on it
Sounds like lots of fun! I’ll allow it but only for today, you caught me in a good mood!! 😂
@prairiewingsperformance6036 ok cool it's also make 12 psi of boost
@@surfofsinify that’s pretty sweet! What does the Dyno say?
Would rather have a Rebuilt 400 Horsepower 70ies model F-150 4x4 extended cab. Automatic C-6 Transmission with 3.73 rear. 351 Cleveland 2 barrel motor. Get the Edlebrock 4 barrel intake for 2V heads so that way you could put a 4 barrel carb on it.
@@Wannagobackto1980 sound like you’ve been dreaming of this for some time. Or are you holding out, that’s what you have parked outside!!?
@prairiewingsperformance6036 I wish. No.... I have 2 trucks. A 93 Ford Ranger 2 wheel drive with the 2.3 4 cylinder in it and a 2001 Ford F-150 extended cab 4x4 with the 5.4 V-8 in it. I was big into Classic Mustangs when I was younger. I had a 71 with a 302 2 Barrel. She would get down the road. 210 horsepower. 72 they dipped down to 148 I believe. I love me some Ford up until about 2003!! This new stuff is just not as reliable and is made poorly.
@ oh man, I had a 71 351 Cleveland convertible, loved that car. It was so rusty the only thing that held it together was all the bondo in it! Oh the memories! Even though it was a total rust bucket I wish I still had it! Bet you’d have yours back!
@prairiewingsperformance6036 in a heartbeat. I wished I had never sold it. 😞
@ me too!
The money to be able to afford which ever I want 😂
@@l271-1 me too!! One day right! There is always hope!
@prairiewingsperformance6036 I'm getting evicted...my land lord just offered me to but the house for $30,000 less than I was told..also paying for the fees....its that or have no idea what we are doing lol its a blessing or a curse...idk yet
I'm also broke af...so that's funny too
@@l271-1 like I said before there is always hope.. that is a good one to look up in an old dictionary. We have seen some hard times, best I can say is keep the faith. Some of the biggest disasters we have been dealing with through our lives have turned to blessings!
Original stock
@@TomWilliams-y7v another one for the engine in old blue! There are some vids on it!
I'd rather have a square body Chevy
@@larrysutton925 will throw some of those up here for you too. I get them through lots!
Depends on who rebuilt it
Here here! I just did an engine swap for a guy who bought a “rebuilt” 383 sbc. That was a disaster!!
Not a big ford fan but always wanted to build a 400M
@@hallwest9650 I’ve been doing this for a long time, I always say I love ‘em and hate them all the same! I personally don’t own a ford right now unless you count my yard art (Ford 8N tractor). I always want to build everything, drives my wife crazy!😬
Rebuild with efi conversion i dont want to constantly mess with the carb. Ive had enough trouble with old school carbs to know I don't want to deal with them anymore
@@matty2helpfull I can see where you are coming from, especially with this new fuel we are dealing with now.
@prairiewingsperformance6036 yup i love old tech but I have had enough of old finicky carbs lol
I got me a 84 bullnose 6.9 idi ats turbo would it be worth rebuilding or should i just swap it for a cummins ive just been back and forth what yall think
@@trishapaytas3452 I personally don’t have any experience with the 6.9. Hope someone with experience will chime in for you. I do like swaps but that’s just cause I like the work of it…
Rebuilt..
It definitely is nice and in a nice truck!
Horse power , always !
Sounds like you need something with some boost??
@prairiewingsperformance6036 turbo, supercharger, or go gas in a bottle, duel quads on top, it's all good, I love to give em the spurs, and make them ponies Run , Son ! A tunnel ram is the perfect hood ornament pushin' through the paint !
@ absolutely get that! I love my job, I get to play with that kind of stuff every day all day.
Not fuel injected
@@OffroadHomestead2784 carbs work to!
@ yes they do. My preferred method.
@@OffroadHomestead2784 I like your handle, I can relate!
What ever is running the best
@@techblade837 kinda like as long as it starts we are good? 😂😂
Maybe rebuilt modified, NO FUEL INJECTION.
@@normanhamiltn1155 carbs work too!
Fe motor
@@JAMESDILLS another Ford guy who knows what he’s looking at! Another vote for the engine in old blue (a rare old Merc high boy)
Rebuilt, ya gotta love fuel injection. More power, cleaner running, better fuel economy.
@@cennsa140driver definitely does add some drivability. And the Dyno doesn’t lie, definitely see the differences when steady state tuning them!
I love stock untouched engines
@beauthurn4687 definitely in this one! We are doing our best to help my buddy preserve his rare old Merc (old blue). If you haven’t seen the vids on it, there will be more too…
You added Air Conditioning!!! Rebuilt for sure!!!
@@rs3946-u4n actually that one is a factory A/C truck!!
Fuel injection 100%. Old school carbs are cool till they dont wanna play nice anymore. 😂
@@Totes_ma_Goat well the new fuel we have definitely adds a note of don’t wanna play nice to them!
The vehicle itself as original as possible, drivetrain modernized
I do love a good restomod! There are a couple I’m doing in the shop right now.
Rebuilt, EFI
@@NBC_7 thank you for the vote!
Give me efi. I live in the cold and don’t want to have to fight it. Not listen to the old timers say “if you tune it right it won’t be a problem”
@@TiMmY3761 I’m in the cold too! I definitely understand the turn the key and efi is running. Back in the day you used to have to learn the personality of your carb job truck to start it when it was cold out, no sending your buddy out to start it for you!
Vintage. Got to appreciate the simplicity of old school engines.
It is definitely that!!
Stock is fine but I feel like the rebuild will have you smiling for longer!
Definitely the rebuilt is pretty snappy for an old 4x4. Old blue is pretty cool to drive too, every time I get to dive it or go for a ride it makes me smile!
Either, or...😊. Its owning it that would matter to me.
Me too, I would take either of the trucks the engines are in! The preserved is in (Old Blue) and the 400 is in a 78 F150 4x4, no vids on that one yet.
My favorite vehicles are in the paid for class!
Good choice! Wise choice!
Diesel old school
@@poseypapusdiazfamily4630 are you talking period correct? Like maybe a screaming jimmy? Gonna have the ford guys mad!
I just want the damn thing running 😢
@@dsihacker01 I hear you, if you can turn the key and she starts you are looking at a great day ahead! Keep wrenching!!
@prairiewingsperformance6036 she starts, but 1&8 don't do a thing
@ nice! I can relate, just keep your foot in it hope it doesn’t make too much noise!
FE all day!!!
@@joshmonroe2562 there’s a ford guy knows what he’s looking at! voting for old blue!!
Vintage stock 💯 (For a handful of reasons too)
You can keep the carb and points driven distributor in the garage
@ I’m not going to assume anything condescending about you because I genuinely don’t know enough to….. but anyone who’s ever ACTUALLY built a naturally aspirated race car knows good and well distributor set ups are simply faster than if the same engine was fuel injected. Far easier to tune, and other than keeping the points clean…. They stand the test of time better than injectors. Now. Direct injection platforms are neat, and I’m not one of those “carb only” people whatsoever… my truck is fuel injected… I’m speaking in terms of building a race car. A hobby of mine.
@@McGregor007 that old vintage stock engine is in a really neat old truck (old blue) it’s a 68 Mercury high boy!!
@@prairiewingsperformance6036 oh man that’s way too cool… that’s one that will DRAMATICALLY increase in value over time, especially considering the engine is original. Those are quite rare! What size motor is that?
Rebuilt more reliable
@@SimanSlivar yup it is reliable! Thanks for the vote!!
