Do we need to build more power stations? | The Electricity Exchange
the guy with white hair must be smart, but hes not using his words to explain what hes thinking
To provide energy is the job from the government that is why they deal with the utility that is why you pay for your energy and tax see that as cost and profit other like to make also money from it so they call it the energy market connecting one energy with the other energy with a purpose to make also money from it. if you have to pay extra money because the energy production is not clean that is meaning you pay for that but you are not the producer, that is the government creates a tax on there own production they play clean but you pay for it. a other exuses for making profit. we do not like to do any thing with government or utility they sell you buy that is all. it is not there business if you were using first 200 Kwh an now only 20 Kwh. they can not force you to use 200 Kwh. so please do not react if you are not a business it is not for a home.
tell me what do you need and i will tell you what i can offer electricity is just electricity it can not think but it can react. that is why i work for the industry if now 1 Kwh cost 20 cent we can make it with a cost from 3 a 4 cents. no wind or solar needed we can use some solar but you stay on the power line. it is not the meaning to make a feed in to the grid you stayon the grid for of grid we can use some solar panels not a solar farm
and yes with 3 a4 cents we are making our money.
for business translation that is meaning they take 80 % and we take 20 % from this 20 cent but who is going to pay for the material the one who is making 80%. now it is all going back to theROI that depending on your electricity use but it will be close to 6 months

Always enjoy Eddie's confidence . Also how he interweaves in sound engineering knowledge to back up his claims.
Could LNG Cool it?
AMSC is already installing the insulated cables that these people seem to be trying to commercialize. Team up with AMSC and accelerate your development!
This is exactly what im looking for? Got a question, do you really need a degree to work in the renewable energy sector?
Unfortunately people made those choices because they wanted to and cheap energy enabled it. Yes one view is it's bad planning, the other is that revealed preference isn't what we would like. It's far too optimistic, people will be very angry when we measurably reduce their quality of life making energy more expensive. We shouldn't deny that reality.
Paddy Thank You for doing this.. I've been saying for a long while that we haven't really near none of independent media in our Éire... This is greatly appreciated and very well put together, an absolute proper job for it too, brilliant set and look forward to listening in! Fair play to ya and whoever else if any for this coverage! Careful on into the future.. They're going to Criminalise "False info" more or less ending freedom of speech by pawning off via the setup of Annndddrewww Ttttaaaattee and his immediate family, I see they(TheWEF=WorldEvilFeckHeads) are in the lines of mentioning a new set of laws to be and akready are being implemented as we speak
This is brilliant Paddy! Plenty of knowledge and experience around the one table. Great insights here
Don't forget Pink Hydrogen... my favourite..
Excellent discussion. Great insights from 2 people leading the way in this space. Keep up the great work Paddy
Thanks James!
Great work Paddy, and thanks to John and Eddie - some of the best experience in the industry at the table there - I look forward to the future shows.
Thanks Barry!
This is really fascinating. I’d go as far as saying bravely honest to critique a system who’s permission they need to fix the situation. Fair play to all three of these titans of industry who are fighting to save the planets energy requirements. Without them our government would allow us to have black outs in years to come.
I am really enjoying these insightful discussions on the channel. Your guests level of experience and knowledge shows that the country is in good hands ....we just have to make sure our policy makers listen.
Best explanation of the shift in network stability (springs and dampers) so far! Who does your graphics, they are great?!
Glad you think so Herbert and thanks for the comment. All graphics are done in-house by our animation wizard!
We are so behind the times with legislation... time to deliver geothermal, wind and solar...
the power of compelling arguments enhanced by comprehensive knowledge of adjacent possibilities/implemented alternative paradigms
Excellent discussion. Without doubt coupling the electricity sector with the heat sector can unlock huge synergies. Excess renewable electricity can be used to offset imported fossil fuels in the heat sector and the heat sector can be our biggest mitigation tool against wind turbines being constrained off.
Should the current focus for Hydrogen be to "clean it up" before trying to utilise it in new applications. Sustainable fuels and bio fuels can be used in trucking and aviation while green Hydrogen production increases and helps the current industries that use grey Hydrogen (95%). Only then should we use applications in transport and aviation , they can focus on SAF production and biofuels during this time.
C’mon David - in 2016 you welcomed a Bioenergy group from Ireland to Denmark and were extolling the merits of biomass and district heating… The reason you gave that Scandinavia have such a high renewable heat % is they adopted biomass heating with district heating The inconvenient truth in Ireland is 55-65% of electricity is from fossil fuel and 7500 tonnes of Columbian coal is burned in moneypoint each day to produce electricity. Listening to this debate you’d swear electricity was 100% green…. This podcast is like a sponsored advert
Above 150C you are probably looking at PtH high temperature storage, transforming peaks from renewables into CO2-free process heat, at efficiencies north of 85%
Excellent discussion.
Are we going to see the continents criss crossed with pylons supporting cable to transmit electricity to the end user. With the energy storage or conversion methods described can these be produced at scale to drive an industrial economy or keep the global north warm during the cold winter months.
Air and water quality was never is good ,climate related deaths have reduced by 98% in the last 100 years?
Real questions
Nucleur please 😂
A lot of solar PV would be nice. So often when it isn't windy it is sunny.
Limitless free green energy perpetual motion gravity generators... Thermally insulated swimming pool...water rises...condenses on upsidedown metal cone...runs into a funnel...generates electricity on the way down...
It isn't a success,it won't stand on its own feet. We are told we will have black outs this winter over oil and gas shortages.if renewable was a success we wouldn't need fossil fuels to prop it up. And there is no such thing as zero carbon, what does it take to make a wind generator, how long do the blades last before end of life due to fatigue fractures, how are they recycled...there not. Bearings replaced, brakes replaced, copper windings mined but at least copper can be reused. The cleanest is hydro power but leads to the need to damn a valley and not everywhere is suitable. Great ideas but it's not working especially with the data centers using as much power as a city. We will end up in a far worse place than 1950s Ireland.
As far as I know , Ireland has 10 hydroelectric power generating stations that work pretty much exactly the same as they were originally designed . Basically that’s fine ... water dams build up the weight of water to drive the generating turbines . Grand . The dammed water is used just once to drive the turbines . That enormous weight of water just gushes out and returns to the rivers . There are vertical turbulent turbines which are successfully operating in many countries . These turbines could be installed ( one at a time ) just below the existing turbines to Re-use the same water to drive the vertical turbines again , potentially doubling the power output of each station . This seems very logical to me . I can’t see an obstacle. I’d be interested to hear other views .
@@conorsheehan9929 I like the idea
@@frankcarden4709 . Thanks Frank . Imagine all ten hydroelectric stations doubling their energy output with relatively low ivestment with little interruption affecting existing operations. There could be additional environmental benefits by installing forward facing turbine blades designed to allow the safe passage of fish species . Whether ESB management will listen is another day’s work altogether!
@@conorsheehan9929 to be fair I don't see any method giving fish a safe passage, except maybe for salmon and using stepped boxes, but I am open to ideas.
@@frankcarden4709 . The modern turbine blades are much larger and forward facing and while producing at least the equivalent energy as the old type amazingly allow the fish to pass through unscathed . Ideally there would be be a water containment wall below the generating house which would facilitate the Re-use of the “ waste “ water which would be recycled over and over . This would be a very big conversation, but water recycling has been successfully introduced in other countries . One of the most impressive possibilities which then becomes available under this system is that the original river can be partly restored providing a natural passage for salmon and other species. . This would be wonderful for so many reasons and has been successfully done elsewhere .
Renewable are not cheap if the price is bought at gas prices, which it is. Fossil fuel is still needed for some time.
Great to hear these young men keep going you are 👍
Interesting that the issues the panel has been discussing is very focused on Ireland and the Irish market but I see a lot of parallels in our markets here in Australia. Issues around permitting, risk management, flexible demand that ensure secure and reliable supply of predominantly renewable power sources, etc. It should all resonate with a lot of people/markets. Thanks Paddy.
Ireland your government needs an overhaul and not in the form of Sinn Fein, form a proper conservative government
Nows not the time, these useless world leaders could have waited till after the Ukrainian war, such bs agenda and the timing is proof it’s deliberate destabilisation of the economy. Also you wanna be more green teach your general population about something as simple littering! Your streets are filthy, dog shit on the side walks dressed with coffe mugs beer bottles and plastic waste. Y’all dam lazy when it come to your general environment.
With modern technology underlying new-build nuclear facilities, there is no good reason why we shouldn’t be building and adapting nuclear energy; the safest, most prosperous and efficient form of energy around.
