มุมมอง 1465 ปีที่แล้ว
See the progress of my field projects at: songbirdsoundscape.org/ Currently accepting donations for research at: fundly.com/songbird-soundscape-project Looped recording of Longleaf Pine Savanna with Bachman's Sparrow singing, recorded in Osceola National Forest in Spring 2018. I don't remember if any birds were singing where I took the photograph, it's just eye candy. Enjoy the sounds of northe...
Defensive behavior of a North American Porcupine (Erethizon dorsalis)
มุมมอง 2785 ปีที่แล้ว
Just before this video was taken, I had accidentally spooked this critter from the forest floor (out in the Ottawa National Forest, Michigan). I got up on a downed log to get an eye-level view and managed to capture this footage I didn't know what a porcupine might do at close range, but North American porcupines* apparently do not "shoot" quills, as is often rumored. Please do not take my exam...

    When the snow blows there, it’s cold and miserable and windy

      I’ve been curious, does enough snow ever stick around where you could ski in some places (like around Sage Creek cmpgd), or does it all just blow around into drifts & bare spots?

    That's the larvae of a caterpillar hunter beetle. (I prefer to call them land-leeches though, because that's what they look like. :P) I found one today eating a small green caterpillar on my sidewalk.

    Caterpillar hunter larva aka fiery searcher beetles. The adults are brilliantly colored.

    should have a video beetle vs a big caterpillar.

  • @agelenavideo

    Tha larva who is attacking belongs to genus Carabus (at least to family Carabidae). The prey is a caterpillar; maybe family Noctuidae.

  • @hantao4247
    @hantao4247 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    They are both beetle larvae. The smaller one is a predatory fiery searcher larva. The larger one is a curl grub.

  • @WolfgangDibiasi

    the smaller one is the beetle larva and it is also the one what it is attacking... there are a lot of beetle larvas what are carnivorous
