Clear Powder Over Liquid Paint?!?
A simple sign restoration with a combination of both liquid and powder paints. It sounds crazy, but it works, and we've been doing it for years.

In your opinion which is better prismatic or tiger!
As far as powder quality goes, I think they're about equal. As a custom coater, I prefer the smaller 1 lb quantities that I can purchase from Prismatic, versus the 5 lb minimum from Tiger that typically runs over $20/lb.

Just a friendly FIY the part of the Bike you’re working on is known as the dropout not the seat tube
Yes, the text you see at the bottom of the Short is not the description for this video. YT allows you to link another similar video. So the text is actually a link to a bicycle seat tube repair we did. Go check it out! :-)
You could have turned it the other way and would out the bottom (assuming the hole went right through?), failing that, a small drill and an eazi-out with WD40.
Yes, definitely an option. The reason I didn't screw it down and all the way through was because this fastener had never been used properly, so it didn't ever go out the other side. Thus, I would have had to force it through some really nasty rusty threads. I chased it with a tap when I was done and got them all cleaned up!
I don't know if others have success with Eazi Outs, in any size. A machining forum I once belonged to said that brand name was "The worst name by which it could ever be described, and the company should have been prosecuted" and there was general agreement. Generally all they seem to do is exand the fastener so that it is harder to remove, and then break off flush, making it impossible to drill the fastener with anything shy of an Electrical Discharge Machine ("hole popper")
If the method I described above does not work, I recommend a left handed drill bit in a suitable drill press or milling machine as the next step (not many drill presses can run backwards). A skilful person might get away with using a hand held drill gun, which usually do have reverse, and for small holes a normal drill bit sharpened "backwards" is almost as good. The thing about a left handed drill is it usually grabs before the fastener is all gone, if you pick the right size difference, and when it grabs, it comes right out.
Great skills. One further thing which can help : melt a bit of beewax into the interface before grinding the slot. It's better than any penetrating oil and survives the subsequent heating. It can make all the diff in extremely difficult cases. Also smacking down on the fastener using a short pin punch or similar before you begin (or even better, using an old school impact driver which converts manual hammerblows into torque) can create a smidgen of axial clearance, which also assists the beeswax to reach more of the thread.
Great advice! Thank you!
I've done a similar coat, looks so dang good!
Smooth! Thanks for the videos and tips, always a joy to watch 😊
You didn't have to leave it.... just too lazy to take it.
Beautiful job... It would look great on a pedestal in the Louvre, however, within the first 30 seconds of me using it it wouldn't look that pretty anymore. Other bench restoration videos are great for people who will use their vises. Spend up to 5 hours to refurbish it, then when you accidentally hit it with a hammer you don't cry over the damage.
I hear ya! I've got the black/copper one mounted on my workbench at home. You just have to get that first scratch or ding over with, then just use it! 😁The other one went to a friend. He'll probably just put it on a shelf and admire it.
I moved 3 years ago after raising 3 kids in a house for 10 years…. We took the door jam😊
See now that's what I would have done, take the damn door jam because you can replace that
Use the right gloves and add the guards back on the grinder. The angle grinder is the most dangerous tool you used. Nice video.
Original Kelsey Hayes Knock-Off Wheels. ,,, You're looking at stuff that could reside at Fort Knox. I bought a set reproductions 30 years ago that cost me a mint. They are not powder coated to begin with.
Once upon a time, someone had clear coated these. My job was to simply remove the clear coat. I think the customer was going to take them to get them polished and restored elsewhere.
@@CrosslincBiz Oh Ok...Gothcha....They are big money wheels though. I've owned 2 Corvettes with them. BTW, I enjoy your channel.

Yes
Those staples are the very best for creating surface scars that last for years. This is A BAD Man! Booooo!!!!! 👎💔😩
@@jeremythorp5520 What are surface scars?
@CrosslincBiz Surface scars are on the outside of your skin that easily damage your appearance for no Good reason in jagged shapes. The burn and irritation from sweat and any other contamination is annoying. I've had 3/4" deep slices that hurt less and looked better after being glued back together. I HATE those STABLES! I don't truly believe that he is a bad man, for perhaps he knows not what he does. Perhaps he would be able to grow in his understanding of my frustration if he was giffted the opportunity to experience lacerations firsthand, then arm, them his other arm. That will show him. He might hate them more than I do, but I doubt it. "Wow, I just love the gift you sent me. We were able to keep most of the blood off of it." Merry Christmas ! Happy Lacerations !
Nice idea on the stripper tank. Do you heat it
@@theartman410 Cheap and durable! No, I don't have to heat it.
You don't have to squeeze it all the way. I just do more squeezes instead of trying to iron grip the thing, the shank snaps fine every time just keep the rivs seated and they lay flush.
What, no MS 20470AD rivets?
Ha! Is this who I think it is???
Nice work but ill just get a pneumatic rivet popper lol
That would be nice!
😂
Should powder coaters be doing this?
Robertson head? Square drive? Am not a handy man
Yeah, one of those... 🙂
This doesn’t explain how. 🤷
I basically just removed the knife and put in a paint pen. Nothin' fancy. 😉

Ur big main doors are on upside down an back to front pal The stiffener has to take to weight off the door so brace from button corners up to middle Just an observation
Well, after over 8 years and hundreds of heat cycles, the doors still fit and function like day 1. I guess they'll be ok.
Those cabinets use a shit-ton of compressed air. Dry air.
Yes, they do. We run a rotary vane compressor with a 200 gallon tank, and it does well to keep up with the demand.
Or just get a mask and do it outside like the Mexicans
nice trick imma try this 😃
This will never stop the board from rusting...to many places behind the board that your gun dosnt have the ability to spray. Especially if you live in areas that use salt on the roads.
Nothing is bulletproof. However, you'd be surprised how the powder coating wizard holding that gun can get powder into even the darkest of depths.
It looks great. Well done
I have such a hard time shooting gloss!! Can I ask what's your gun settings when you shoot it?
@@dieselwilson9767#1 question: Where do you get your powder?
@CrosslincBiz usually either prismatic or Columbia
What size is this cabinet? Im upgrading currently. I like your cab. Are you happy with it? (And who makes it?)
This is a Trinco cabinet. Inside dims 72x48x36. The cabinet is good, the direct pressure system and reclaimer is what makes it awesome. trinco.com/product-category/blast-cabinets/direct-pressure-systems/
When vice won't come out at the very end like that, screw it back in look closely where it's binding up and hit it with a Mill file. You should never pound it like you did.
Good input.
Definitely the best on TH-cam
whoever made this cabin is an idiot. A small cabin is always enough if it has little doors on the sides for long objects. But if you're stupid, even a house-sized cabinet won't be enough.
