    It looks like that on both the Victor and Cresta had double skins on the rear wings, which was perhaps unusual and only expected on premium make cars

    Thanks for this. Very interesting to see how it was carried out but more crudely than I thought. Having said that I have a 1958 saloon and that includes a lot of rough edges too … straight from Vauxhall too!

    Thank you for your video. We had the car, black with loads of chrome. Anything PA, Estates were great too.

    Friary estates must be a nightmare to find rear cargo window and tailgate seals for. It’s a shame that the fella who was getting all the early Vauxhall window rubbers reproduced is no longer doing it. As he also owns the moulds for them I doubt anyone else will outlay the cost of getting their own Made which will make restoring any early Vauxhall a little bit difficult

      @CrestaGary ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I've got that problem to look forward to, I did get a repro windscreen rubber but I'm expecting to have to adapt something for the side and rear glass.

    We in Australia are quite lucky. All the wagons [estates] we got from Holden, Ford and Chrysler were designed as such from the word go and factory built.Why Vauxhall didn't follow the same practices as GM's other divisions remains a mystery. As you're now discovering, converting a factory built sedan in to a wagon [estate] was a recipe for disastor

    • @CrestaGary
      @CrestaGary ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the low projected sales meant it wasn't economical for Vauxhall to tool up for the estate but it was viable to get Friary to do it. I'm glad they did because, although not everyone is a fan of the styling, I think they look terrific.

    Is this a guinuine Friary as it looks it far too good condition compared to my 1962 one

    • @CrestaGary
      @CrestaGary ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear from a fellow Friary owner, yes, it's definitely a real one, but I know what you mean about the condition, I've had a couple of saloons and this is in way better shape than any of those. It did spend some time out in Australia which is likely how it's lasted so well.

    Quite amazing, They did a great job of the exterior styling, I have always thought these were elegant station wagons. Great it has a good home. Rare in my part of the world (New Zealand) but there were at least 2 imported in the 1960's by British immigrants

    Looks a solid car did it come from abroad?

    • @CrestaGary
      @CrestaGary ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I imported it from Australia about 10 years ago, there is some rust, it's a 60s Vauxhall so there's bound to be, but it's really not too bad at all.

    Very interesting, a crude but effective way of converting to an estate. Great cars, it will be a very useful vehicle once done. Was the spare wheel well still used for the spare under the false floor?

    • @CrestaGary
      @CrestaGary ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the spare still sits in the wheel well, although the cover has a small section cut off to make it easier to remove when the fuel tanks are in place.

    Glad to see you were able to put an actual Pontiac motor in a thirdgen Trans Am! I remember reading that the 1982 trans am was going to be fitted with a turbo 301 or 4.9 liter but GM canceled all Pontiac V8s after the 1981 model year so your Pontiac 350 is right at home!

    Subframe connectors are definitely on the to do list, they're a worthwhile upgrade even if you're not towing. Thanks for the comment.

    That hood scoop looks ridiculous on that car.

    • @CrestaGary
      @CrestaGary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit of a worry cutting the hood, you can't easily (or cheaply) get parts like that on this side of the world, but I'm happy with the look. And a second gen shaker goes well with the second gen engine.
