Colors of Influence Book Talks: Destyn Land, "The Rules We Live By"
In this episode, Book Talks welcome Destyn Land, author of “The Rules We Live By: Stories and Reflections on Unlearning Patriarchal Masculinity.” In this timely and deeply introspective book, Destyn Land examines the nature of “masculinity” and the lessons boys and men are taught as children which carry into their adult lives. Although his target audience is male-identified readers, the book is very relevant to people of all genders.
I reviewed Destyn’s book “The Rules We Live By.” As a woman, I appreciated the honesty and vulnerability that Destyn demonstrated in sharing his experiences. Here’s a short excerpt from my review:
“The power of Land’s narrative is his laser focus on his target audience: men and boys who may feel out of place in traditional societal norms but have no choice but to conform. He delivers information and advice about harmful structures and promotes understanding and humanizing others.”
