    Watch what happends to Airbyte when you try and move large volumes on a transactional system in a database... their CDC doesn't really work... Test in a POC and report back? How about security of your pipelines? and Up time? If you have a mission critical system and the data goes down, whats the cost to the business? and who do you ask the community? do you hope and pray? without timelines of resolution? Airbyte might be good for Small business, Hobbiests and Students that have low data volumes and small budgets. Its a great low risk way to get started. Would you want to depend on it in the enterprise, especially if your job depended on it?

    Someone needs to make these things (open source reporting and dashboard tools) easier to install. I use PowerBI daily on my desktop, but it doesn’t work on my Fedora laptop and I need something less “kludgy” than PBI. Best thing about PBI is it’s extremely simple to install. If I have to go into the command line to install any app and get it up and running, I won’t do it. And no JAVA. Eclipse BIRT has been a frigging nightmare to install and use.

    You focused on the developer experience, which was great and I felt great about Redash. The DropBox article seemed to make the decision for Superset based on user adoption, which is a critical factor as if they demoed versions for managment and they picked. Speculation on user interface would be great. Dashboards are for clients at the end of the day. A comparison of redash vs metabase seems fun.

    I know that everyone is talking about the easy metabase set up but I can't confirm that.... I have a sever in a test environment with a fresh winOS. I download all the required java jdks etc but the installation in the terminal does not work so I can't open the localhost:3000. I blocked firewalls and virus defender but it did not help A lot of java.io.IOException: The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file at java.base/java.io.FileInputStream..... Anyone with the same issue ?

    My personal experience with Airbyte (Open Source not Cloud) has been terrible. It's incredibly demanding for the most mundane tasks. All I needed was to have a centralized platform to sync two postgres databases; instead, all I got was a major headache trying to make this bulky thing to run. Also, integrating it with Airflow is not as flawless as everybody thinks, for countless reasons, such as: - you cannot configure Airbyte to not retry syncs automatically, which is annoying, since you'd be much better for my use case to let Airflow be resposible for retries. - Airbyte is so demanding that from time to time during syncs, the machine is too loaded to send a heartbeat to Airflow, which makes Airflow think it's a dead process, sending a retry that fails because then Airbyte tells Airflow that there's already a sync runnning, which was the sync that never failed in the first place. - The logs from the syncing are just horrible. - It generates a lot of metadata tables that just makes your target schema super dirty and crowded. To make matters worse, I don't seem to EVER get someone to answer me on Slack, which is also bloated by the way. I'm giving up on Airbyte for now, maybe I'll check Fivetran, but most likely going back to my custom scripts or native postgres tools (e.g.: logical replication).

    Hi Shruti, thanks for the video. I've already used Metabase and the ease of deployment and use is really good. Today I'm looking for an open-source data visualization tool that, in addition to supporting SQL code, also supports Python, as my current need involves putting machine learning models to run every day, so that I can monitor some results using graphs. Do you have any tool suggestions?

    Debating this right now along with some other tools. Leaning more towards Metabase because with the use case of our very non-technical business side, it is probably easier for them to pick it up. They really just want to drill down in the end and not play around with too many types of visualizations. Lightweight install also ends up being lighter maintenance. I can't even get Superset to work consistently on my local machine let alone what will happen when it's in production 😱

    Cool, can we do customization? 1) conditional graphs (graphs based on dropdown) 2) Additional text about datapoint shown on or below the graph 3) Can we do additions customization like html overlay? 4) How scalable are these? appreciate it!

  • @nuvotion-live
    @nuvotion-live 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the video! I find it interesting that the Posthog docs claim a docker compose instance could scale to 100k events per month, which isn’t a ton. The free cloud instance goes up to 1M. And they sunsetted the kubernetes support. So unless you plan to spend 10s of thousands on dedicated engineering seems like you’ll wind up with the cloud. I’m not sure if Matomo is friendlier, I have a very modest number of users and when I self hosted Matomo on a 4c, generating the report pegged the CPU to 100% and basically crashed the server. Everything hung up. I paid for Matomo cloud but I was really unimpressed. I’m switching to PostHog cloud because I need more product analytics than web. Posthog also seems much more developer focused.

      Cus Retool's pricing sucks some donkey balls, having a maximum # of runs even when self-hosted, and then on paid plan, they charge you per use, despite having a capped # of runs per plan. Why would I have to pay more, just cus I have 1 more dude using the app, if my usage is limited? I don't support that kind of trash.
