Jacques is truly an ambassador for goalkeeping in South Africa. An olympian who is ploughing back into the position he loves and performed superbly at. I was one of Jacques' attendees on a SAHA Level 0 goalkeeping course, and the insights he provides is amazing. Really worthwhile attending the course if you wish to learn more about the fundamentals of goalkeeping, especially for younger players.

Hi, quick question- is it mandatory that all GKs have stick in rt hand n glove in left? If he is largely a left handed person, can he hold vice versa? I've never seen anyone using glove in rt hand hence curious. Thanks 👍🏒
Good question. All hockey sticks are essentially "Right-handed" meaning the flat/playable side is always on the Left side of the stick if the hook points away from you. largely so that tackling wouldn't be dangerous. When it comes to GK's - most Left hand gloves are moulded in a way that wouldn't allow you to switch hands. So those who are left hand dominant should have a little more control on the Left glove than others, but after a good deal of practise one becomes efficient on both sides. Like-wise GK's need to be effective with both L and R feet depending on which side the ball comes. This is usually a challenge with young GK's starting out.
@@jacqueslerouxhockey6638 thanks! So wat it means is since they become ambidextrous with experience, it doesn't matter which hand the stick is and which d glove? Sorry im not a hockey player hence questions may sound dumb 😅.. just interested. Thanks again for d videos that r easy to understand.
@@synchronicity67 Yes, essentially you become ambidextrous, but the flat glove will always be in the left hand and the stick will always be in the Right hand. Thanks for asking.

This is not Right because the knee isn't protected in this case. I learnt to do a blocksliding with both legguards above each other
that is a method however you are in a log position and it will be harder to one get back up faster and two save the ball if the attacker tries to flick it over you but yes that is a way that some goalkeepers do it and maybe that way works better

The save made at 0:42 is "palming" the ball away which will result in a penalty corner or at worst a penalty stroke.
Thats only if the ball heads to an opponent. it nots necessarily a penalty

This technique is not used at all! you don't have your right leg going underneath you at all, slide saves are made with both pads together.
Jason Moyle that’s another way of doing it. It comes down to what the goalies prefer
