Fodie Hill Farms is a small farm on 4 acres in S. GA. We have a lot of animals and grow all kinds of food.
My goal is to slow down a little and enjoy things more. I’m learning more skills for cooking and preserving things in the kitchen, and trying to lean as many things about homesteading as I can. I hope you enjoy these adventures that you go on with me!

First time growing the squash
Hey y’all, it’s Mel with Fodie Farms. This is the first time growing the Seminole squash that we ate at a farm to table restaurant. The following week I went to a farmers market and in a different town and happened to find a start of the same squash. I got multiples fruit off of this plant and I am going to save the seeds so that I can grow this for years to come. This is one of my new favorite things to grow in the garden. Easy shredded chicken

For the longest time when I needed shredded chicken, I would take two forks and sit there, ripping apart the chicken breast until it was shredded. I came across this hack and I will never use to shred chicken again. Happy cooking! #chicken #cooking #cookinghacks

I love roses! And after seeing these little rose bushes I had the best idea. Let’s plant out my GreenStalk with roses. This is the best idea I have had for any of my GreenStalk. I’m also so happy that he is always down for my adventures. He supports me in all my garden endeavors and I am forever grateful for him!! Hey y’all, it’s Mel with Fodie Hill Farms. Today we went to our local butcher and picked up a half of a hog for the freezer.  we don’t really like pork chops, but we love breakfast. So when our butcher called to ask us what meat we wanted, we told them we did not want any of the pork chops for them to turn it into ground pork and Smoke sausage. My local grocery stores do not carry ground pork...

I planted Tractor Supply Red Norland, Kennebec, and Yukon Gold this year. Mine won't be ready for at least another month. I'm hoping I get good results. I have used their potatoes for 2 previous years with good results so I'm waiting patiently to see how they do. Wishing you better luck on your other potatoes.

Nice choice on the extra sausages and ground meat. I am so sick of pork chops. There was a time when that was the only meat we could afford, I just can't anymore 😂

This is great to see. I am hoping to buy meat like this once we find our forever home. As a single mom, who works full time, raising meat animals is more than I want to take on.
I have enough room to raise meat animals, but we have 2 business which take A LOT of my time. So I decided to go with the next best thing. Buy from a local farmer!!

Respectfully ask to revisit your numbers. Actual meat would be closer to 528 pounds after aging, trim and deboning (40% live weight). Since you got half, that would be 264 pounds of usable product, or $6.22 per pound. Still a great deal though
Awesome harvest! I never had any luck with the starts at regular box stores . So I bought the seeds, and I accomplished growing decent onions. Still could've been better , but wrong bed . So yeah .

A local processor that does my deer. He gets with a rancher that raises cattle and they do cows on the off season.

I want to do this but I can't afford it. It's $10 a pound where I live. That's directly from the farm. Just can't put out that kind of money all at once.
I teamed up with a member of my family and we split the cost of half a cow. (It normally last my family almost a year along with the other meats we have) I just kept putting up the money I would normally spend through the year on beef items. By the next year I had a hunk to spend. It’s a lot to put out at once’s but very well worth it! I hope you can find a way to do it soon!
@@Fodiehillfarm I live alone. I thought about trying to buy a quarter beef but I don't want all hamburger. I like steaks. I always cut up the roasts into steaks. I like liver. How much would a quarter pound last one person? I mean a quarter beef? How much would a half a beef last one person?
@@nogames8982 it depends on how much of other meat you eat. We are a family of 4 and we eat chicken, pork, and deer along with the beef. It’s last us almost a year. So I would assume a quarter beef would last you as long too!
