My all time favorite isn't here. It is the finale to the Firebird Suite. At the end, those chords in the brass over the strings and then that piano up to that double forte knocks my socks off very time!
Honteux ! Mahler encore une fois presque totalement absent (même pas la moitié du programme)...
Maybe in my opinion is not just a beautiful music that we listen to but how the composer made that music with struggle, love and passion...
The problem with Mahler finales is that the true highpoint comes a minute or two before the final notes, followed by a Mahlerian chaos of braying brass and cymbal crashes to the end.
Although not technically symphony The pines of Rome by Respighi
These endings are "epic" because of what led to them. By themselves, they are just loud tuttis.
Beethoven far and away for me. Beethoven could a Mahler symphony or finale if he wanted; no composer could touch what Beethoven did on the 9th
I would also include Manfred, Dvorak 9th and Saint-sans 3rd
Bruckner is missing !
No "Symphonie Fantastique "?
Замечательная подборка этих шедевров, глаза слезятся, горло перехватывает... из Мексики.
I love your choices - there are so many great ones to choose from! I would add the end of Mahler 2 as well, and Saint-Saens 3.
Yes. Totally agree on Mahler’s 3rd, and that it is so high on your list. The entire 6th movement is spellbinding.
Fascinating!!!
How can u not have Saints organ symphony there I mean like 30 something notes that r just felt not heard at the end. Ludwig should always be #1 bc #9 is the GOAT of ALL music. Thank u for this. Most excellent.
Nice to hear this compilation of finals! Do you know which composer this finale belongs to? I've been wondering for years. Here is the link: th-cam.com/users/shortsB6CKPzgcW0U?feature=share
26:43 - the best
Beethoven’s 9th is my favorite!
Thank you for recognizing the phenomenal ending to Mahler 3!
I present to you the arrangement of the assumed Finale for Schuberts "Unfinished" (which he used a few months later in another work) where in the end I pick up the main theme of the 1st movment and transform it to a triumphant and splendid B-major conclusion of the symphony: th-cam.com/video/L3yOwZ8OEns/w-d-xo.html
Too much Mahler and Shostakovich
It’s just someone’s opinion
Expand to a top 20 and slot in: - Bruckner 8 - SaintSaens 3 - Brahms 2 - Dvorak 9 - Mahler 2
One I'm surprised is missing is the Symphony of Psalms. I find the ending epic, transcendent even, even though quiet.
Quite a few more come to mind. Mahler 2, the "Resurrection", Bruckner 5 and 8, especially the latter, which could have the greatest coda of them all. And Mozart 4, the "Jupiter" with that unbelievable fugal writing, and that intense but ultimately tragic (?) ending of Brahms 4.
Beethoven 5 ending just sounds like an Updated Version of Beethoven 3 ending, like it is very similar but u can tell the improvements beethoven made himself to the Finale
The symfoni who went right to my inner feelings and more….Bruckner nr.4 the Romantik
And Brahms #2
My all time favorites are Mahler 1, Sibelius 2 and Tchaikovsky 5. But I can't say any of the suggestions in the comments are less magnificent. I also like Ives #2.
Have you heard of Ottorino Respighi?
mahler nine might not be epic but i feel it is the most powerful (other than ressurection).
Where's the Jupiter finale??
How did the finale of MOzarts Jupiter symphony get left off? the end of the 4th movement 2 minutes before it fnishes for a few bars is literally the height of all music of all time.
How does one pick only 15?
Mahler is the most overrated composer in history.
Wait A Minute !!! NO GEORGE Frederick HANDLE !!! ( Conclusion of the Hallelujah Chorus , AMEN Chorus , And Soon To Be Played ZADOK THE PREIST For The Coronation of King Charles !!!?? ) Come On !!!!!.....
It’s just someone’s opinion lol they have a clear taste
Mahler is great, but 4 out of the 15 when you didn't even include the 2nd? One each from Sibelius and Nielsen would have to have been there for me.
What I like most about Mahler is his subtlety with a hammer. I also think his transparency of orchestration is right up there with Mozart and Ravel.
MAHLER😍
and from left field the finale to "In Held Twas I In" (Procul Harum) - Edmonton Symphony Orch version.
Gee You could throw in 'The Great Gate' from "Pictures"
Where’s Mahler 2??
Even though Mahler is my favorite composer, I'm surprised that the finales to Saint-Saens 3rd symphony or Sibelius 5th symphony didn't make the list.
slayed
Completely agree - but I do think you could include Mahler 2 and for inclusion in the classical period Mozart 41. Maslanka 4 is worth including as well. Just saying! Great choices, though!
Shostakovich is like Star Wars Episode 23 😀😀😀
No Sibelius 1,2 or 5 plus Tchaikovsky 5 and Arnell 5 truly great finale's!!
I know its not an orchestra piece, but a wind ensemble piece, but David Maslanka's 4th Symphony has one of the most glorious and epic endings to a piece of music I have ever heard. The last six minutes are bonkers.
